Cat was very nice to mice:
If asked for cheese, replied,
how big a slice?~ My honor to

he barked a lot, even at the laundry --

Memory, not landscape, frames it—
a road cleaving winter in two,
children laughing while gravity
negotiated its own terms.

Neighbors spoke without flourish.
Their kindness was practical,
never advertised, always assumed.
You could leave your grief
on the porch overnight;
someone would tuck it in
and leave bread beside it
by morning.

Coal knew every surname
but never asked for praise.

The memories it conjured up

Woeful,
my painful past,
that leaves me woebegone
for my loved ones now gone above.
Full of melancholy and grief-stricken
and lost in sad recollections.
I have been crushed forlorn
in thoughts and left, 
woeful.

In the labyrinth of memory, shadows dance on the walls of recollection, whispering untold stories

They, the wellsprings of my being, unwittingly poured their turbid waters into my soul,

a perfectly normal day 
that now sticks up 
like a rusty nail 
a forever ache
if it had been on a regular day

nothing special 
to make it memorable

Summer lover's moon shyly enclosed in 
silvered clouds,
a honeyed recollection,
white caps of memory waves,
cresting, curling dreamily,
a tide under eve's star canopy,
coupled in enchantment, 
entwined on the beach. ~

Echoes from the past
Still my thoughts, color me
In hues of melancholy, 
Abiding, gentling, forgetting
There are moments
When hope was lost in the ancient
	Feelings, bleeding
Through the silence, preventing
The quiet to rest on the prayers
Pleading for the light to shimmer
Into the present, where 
Promise fades and grace, so amazing…

Breathing joy, heartening
Laughter, caresses

It’s strange to have a memory
That no one else can share.
I asked my brother but he was
Too young, though he was there.

My bedroom lamp, with two glass globes
Was missing one and so
I placed my doll’s straw hat right where
That globe was meant to go.

Of course, it rested on the bulb
And soon began to smell

Thoughts track back, as a fox on the run
Though the memory is seared, a toasted bun. 
Memory remember me, because I have forgotten. 
Recollection fail us not, because my retention is rotten. 
Data exists in the web that the universe is built on.
