They Can't Erase Us All

I see a newly-painted crosswalk
covered in color-arranged chalk
to mimic the aura of what it once was:
a rainbow crosswalk
leading to the very building
where 49 souls
left bodies behind
dripping blood on the dance floor.
victims of hate-driven gun violence
no reasonable resolutions
in the only country where these events
are in one ear
out the other

I wonder
what the families think.

i swore to myself
when i saw who she became
that i would never want a domestic life,
i would never settle down.
but the simple act,
of holding you,
listening to the sounds of your sleeping

The way he gazes at the moon, 
Doesn't quite feel right; every day he has a different tune.

An Ultimatum

An ultimatum stood at my door
And greeted me so fondly
To the tune of my thumping heartbeat.

The words had reverberated in my skull and rattled my bones-

Where to start

The blackbird sings, can you hear it?

The telly fed me the propaganda. Of princesses and princes.
Damsels in distress. Knights in shining armour. That was

The sunlight spills across her hair, a river of spun gold, And I, like a moth drawn to a flame it cannot hold, observe her from afar, My gaze, a silent symphony, a melody that never leaves my heart, I wonder, am I allowed to look at her with such a tender, lingering start?

Sometimes I feel an itch,

Labyrinth of the mind

the words I try to speak 
the feelings I try to convey 
all I can do is hope 
that you understand 
by the way I look into your eyes
and hold your head in my hand 
and throw you around the room 
as if telling the world 
you were mine
 
but there’s vines wrapped around my

growing pains by word of the lord

we started together,
you and i.
we grew as we
wandered this earth,
the smell of soil permeated our senses.
we stayed so close 
our roots began to bond,
the origin of our creation
became a union, an abomination.

given the choice 
between their doctrines,
and their children, 
they chose the scripture. 
instructions
on how to raise
saplings and sinners like us.

over time,
our roots were separated

Rainbow Kid

I am a rainbow kid
I take pride in who I am
And embrace the crown as I am
These colors I embrace,
This rainbow, running through my blood stream.
They call it debased,
But, I call it redeemed.
My identity I embrace,
Out of the ordinary,
