Hit The Ground Running Poems | Examples

A Consuming Weather

Clouds in a Walmart mirror.
The galvanized roof is
eclectically painted and rattling
its shifting shadows.

Some mutter,
hurry to the unmanned checkouts,
some seek a deeper shelter in the
sporting goods aisle's
The distant sounds of fire engines
and sirens,
a howling chorus of trepidation.

Outside in the midday gloom
parking-lot geese
are forming escape lines.
Squirrels gawp and chatter,
hit the ground running.

Another shoplifting tornado
has come to town,
pushing empty carts ahead
of its imminent funnel of fear.
A store greeter
grins like death,
as the gatecrashing wind
steals his breath.

The aftermath has yet to be counted,
though bargain priced Chinese calculators
are readily on sale everywhere.

I rest my case
on a house of cards
(that)
hit the nail on the head
(of) the nail in the coffin
(that)
hit the ground running
where the rubber hits the road
(while)
time flies when you’re having fun
in the nick of time
(and)
all’s well that ends well
all is fair in love and war
(let’s not forget that)
the writing’s on the wall
it could be worse
(as)
the light at the end of the tunnel
is a perfect storm after the calm

Premium Member Corporate Speak

When the president said ‘misunderestimated’
Everybody wondered, ‘was he ever educated’
But I forgive him that, for the thing that makes me ‘EEK!’
Is the mad proliferation of Corporation Speak…

For thirteen years a desk paid my rent
As I gave a hundred and ten percent
While progress chasing, the big knobs suggested
I could perhaps be more invested

They said action that
And try blue sky thinking
Let’s square the circle
Cos floating ain’t sinking

So pick it up and run with it
But bring it to the table
And hit the ground running
Don’t smoke in the stable

Scare the ghost
Feel the commotion
Peel the onion
Boil the ocean

If you’re out of the loop
Go punch the puppy
We’ll take it on board
(While I punch the yuppie)

So here’s the game changer
Think outside the box
We need joined up thinking
Heads up, shoot the fox

It’s a no brainer, for it’s got legs
The tastiest coffee still has dregs
So find a window, bump some heads
You can’t make an omelette without cracking eggs

So let’s all sing from the same hymn sheet
For we live in a world full of corporate speak

Premium Member America's Superman

President Biden's been working since dawn. It's obvious he's got his mojo on. It's been refreshing and rather stunning, to see how he's hit the ground running. Our breath of hope in a hurting land, America's superman.

Bully

Your words clung to my heartstrings
Hitchhikers on my favorite dress i couldn’t pull off anyway
How could I? I've too many lumps to hide
No one likes me after all, so try and speak in poems
Oh wait, that’s bad too, at least that’s what you made me believe
You lift me to let go, so why try standing
I’d hit the ground running.

Black Chameleon

When I open the history books and hit the ground running.
my boots quake in fear as I race across the verses.
Doomed are the people not rooted in the past, once the rot sets in, originality goes to the gallows.
I wonder when did the west become a crystal ball, a little of pac's life to spice up your life and the local taste is trash.
Wisemen once said beauty is in the sense(s) of the beholder, but all I see is beauty is from the west.
Who wants the local wear anymore when you can dress up like kanye west.
Who wants to dance to the local drum when drake beats hits the waves.
Who wants to look black anymore like icarus who flew too close to the sun when you can breach.
Hell everyone is hitting the saloon to cocoon their hides in acids until they are light.
If it looks like a duck and dress like a duck, quacks like a duck it's a shame the is white.

Lighthouse On the Sea

Be the lighthouse on the sea
Guiding lost souls to come to me
Ponder this through your heart and war
Should I come to knock on your door
I count the hours locked away
And to my hearts contempt I stay
A little line of mine to shine
My own burden to bear..it's mine
Suffering and pain will be your antidote
to the timeless of memories and the most remote
The lighthouse flashes and shines its light
to the edge of the water its beams stray bright
Beware of the chance when you walk in vain
And the souls of your feet, where the sand falls grain by grain
Potential is high when you reach for the bar
hit the ground running and shoot for the stars
Brave is the man who dares to dream high
For the insurmountable courage
of a goal that will never die
Peaks aren't reached by an ephemeral hike
A momentary doubt is a receding climb
Half-hearted attempts won't suffice
Look at the heart and look at the price
Even though you were used and were made a spawn
these words of mine will go on and on
And with my final breath I plea
To be the lighthouse on the sea

Return of the Fire Within

Alone in the light
Just barely scraping by
I'm itching for a fight
I tear away from the urge to die

I'm wide awake from a bolt of lightning
I realize my position now
Man or machine, the lines are blurred
As the fire burns in my soul

Burning now, released from my chains
I'm clawing towards the light
No burnout from this flamethrowing fury
Ten thousand fires ignite

Full throttle, hit the ground running
With the passion to excel

God help those who think I'm giving up here.

Keepin Up

Got a wild hair and found a younger woman
did I.
Took a trip oh howtime did fly.

I wake up she already ran three miles.
Going eighty down the interstate.
she's doing more than playing
with the dials.

Last night in the sack.
She turned into a gymnast and
almost broke my back.
Now im looking through the phone book
begging her ex boyfriend to take up the slack.

If there ever was a foutian of youth I wish
sombody would pour me a cup.
Cause im having a hell of a time keepin up.

For the first time I gotta chick askin hey you
asleep?
Gonna change my name to Dracula
with the hours I keep.

Took her to the track and she out ran a horse.
Some guy looked to me and asked.
You gonna take her to the derby?
To which I replied of course.

One night she asked wouldnt this be great to do forever?
Hit the ground running.
Saying baby I gotta check the weather.

You know this old dog just aint no young
pup.
I might be on oxygen and in a electric wheelchair.
But im keepin up.

Lost In the Backwods

Took a trip off the beaten path.
Nothing modern in site.
Knee deep in the woods and to scared to laugh.

Blew a tire.
Met some dude that said something about my mouth.
He did admire.

So I ran in fear.
Till no longer him and his brothers dueling banjo
I could no longer hear.

So deep in the forest far from the city and familiar hoods.
Somebody save me.
Cause im lost in the backwoods.

Screamed like a girl when something
moved near me.
Didnt realize it was a rabbit.
Now im stuck up a dam tree.

Hit the ground running screaming like a banshee.
Thorns in my side twiggs in my hair.
Tore my britches.
And left something expossed I really wish wasnt bare.

I herd a voice yell fool I fixed your flat tire.
I felt like a moron hiding in poisen ivy.
With my skin on fire.

Looking like a half naked wildman I stummbled
back to my car.
Threw the guy a tweenty and said.
Now point me to the closest
bar.

Premium Member Competitive Advantage

I find nothing wrong with being educated--
As long as one's education doesn't exceed one's intelligence.
Ya know what I mean Vern?
It's like putting two friendly cats in a sack,
shaking it up and dumping them out.
Each will claw and scratch to get ahead,
as they hit the ground running.
Kind of puts me in mind of life.
Everyone strives for some competitive advantage.
For some, It's formal education,
It's one thing to have it--still another to use it.
But never consider yourself the better person simply because of it.
When you make this mistake,
you have surrendered your competitive advantage
to the person who's diploma reads
School Of Hard Knocks.

Birth

Fragile like a teacup
A new birth
replacing a new death
Welcome to this world
You’ll soon learn your way
Where you’ll go
and what you’ll do
no one really knows
The bright lights
and loud noises
will fade into
the background
becoming normalcy eventually
There’s no time to learn
how to crawl
You’re born with a need to run
No time for fun
It’s best you hit the ground running
because the end is already coming
The longer you take
the quicker you’ll break
No time to sleep
No time to relax
It’s time for the world
to show you
everything you lack
