Have you tried INSTANT coffee
Well it sure doesn't cut it with me
Gimmie the real stuff
Can't impress enough
So important it is to make it REAL

“Gimmie another poem, make it a double!”
Quote from John Lawless
Block Head
John asked for a poem.
He said make it a double
I took out my pen
and knew I was in trouble
Words wouldn’t come easy
I couldn’t make them flow
Lacking articulation
My thoughts far too slow
I grasped at my corners
The pointy parts of my head
I thought about talented writers
and all the poems I have read
I could write a sonnet
or perhaps a haiku
So many forms to choose from
Whatever shall I do
Why not be silly
Some might get the joke
Maybe I’m sorta special
just like other folk
So give me a verse
I’ll mix it with my own
When drinking words
you shouldn’t drink alone
Although I like quiet
my heads a hectic place
I want to insert lines
into every blank space
Wordaholics are frantic
We need our next hit
Wild wacky or stoic
We love every bit!
So drink as you will
Feed that addiction
But be very careful
to choose the right diction.

Peter’s off again to job interview (second round, in Geneva), he was only here two days but something of him remained behind. Oh, fingerprints for sure - but memories too - like scattered Christmas wrappings - or a poem:
Ok, gimme me your best day, take your best shot at perfection.
Our minds take experiences and press them grape-like,
into the intoxicating liquor of memory.
The vivid ones linger - unaltered - like youthful Internet mistakes forever posted.
Someday to beckon us back, teasingly - like bright, neon signage.

Shelter Me
To defend, harbour, protect, safeguard
Seek refuge, shield, to take in
Gimmie Shelter
Our society is out of kilter
280,000 estimated in England alone
Without even a place to call home
If we work together, come together
We can help change lives forever

Just “Gimmie” a Casserole
By: Tom
12-2-2019
I could never be thought of as bon vivant guy,
I prefer plain “vittles” that will stick to a rib.
Most fancy dishes I allow to pass my plate by,
and I never eat things that require a bib.

gimmie, gimmie, gimmie.
you've got me begging like a baby.
and you know i am such a lady
but this gold has got me crazy.
hazy, hazy, hazy,
under skies of purple daisies.
i'm pouting my lips like a young girl.
and i can't help how my toes curl
every time you bring that glamour around.
honey, hope you haven't forgotten
i only smell this sweet
because i'm spoiled rotten.
no one deserves so much so fast
but i found that it doesn't hurt to ask.
ever since i was little
i knew how the world worked.
manipulate and replicate
until the world is yours to take.
is it a sin to have your cake
and eat it too?
even if the party wasn't for you?
the name on the cake says "princess"
and i'll blow out the candles till i'm blue.
because i'm royalty, now.
with eyes made of diamond
and a heart of coal,
soaked in silk worth more than el sol.
i'll meet you downstairs by the bar.
when the sky's as rose tinted as your glasses
i'll help you dig up treasure in the sand by la mar.

What's so strange about it?
The way it curls like a baby or
The way it stands out on it's own
The way it swings when I walk or
The way it catches your stare when I talk
Natural roots, they spring into trees of knowledge
The offense you take, the regards you make and
Hassles I get when going state to state
It's like my whole life's at stake
Damn gimmie a break
(So) What's the big fuss about the Natural Lust
Rejection to European Beauty Standards is what I truly adore
We need more Natural sisters MORE MORE MORE
MY LOCKS IS NOT A STYLE, NEITHER A FAD, NOR IMPRESSION
MY LOCKS IS A WEAPON, IT HELPS ME FIGHT AGAINST OPPRESSION
I'm not afraid to show it and I'm not afraid to grow it
Information, dedication, and confirmation is wrapped up in my hair
which wraps around my crown-
So thick, So tough, So strong, So long
So Black and untrapped just my appearance is an attack
Come into job interviews with my image misconstrued, unculture myself
Just to fit what works for you
Cut my hair for what?? NO! Just Leave Me Alone
One half of one percent is still the wealth we own
So if I cut my hair off, what will the Black man own?

I confess I've been known to partake
Straight icing sans chocolate cake
I concede I shall never be lean
Pouring fudge without the ice cream
It's apparent my tool-shed doth grow
Baked cookies? Just gimmie the dough
It is rumored that I often spread
Peanut butter and jam (hold the bread)
From grandma I would often cajole
A sugar rush direct from the bowl
(Rejecting her kit for caboodle
Choosing filling minus the strudel)
I eat healthy! Want some examples?
Pay-Days contain protein that's ample
Orange Slices provide Vitamin C
Milky-Ways furnish Vitamin D
Cavities? My molars are mature
Cholesterol? I concur (THAT'S for sure)
Gotta change before damage is done
Take a walk? Um, later, Honey Bun...

My Hooch
Wounded soldier
Couldn't be wiser
Couldn't be bolder
Road soda
Training wheels older
My sixer
This isn't over
Forget the tipple
Make it a triple
Gimmie the moonshine
Just make it all mine
This is the juice
This is forever
This one's for you
Make you feel better
Is this all booze?
Give me the rest
Too tired now
To give it my best
Giggle-water got me
Went to my head
Open my hand now
I might be dead

i want something with that -
wispy, faint - new digital smell...
i want a phone -
that loves me - for me alone, well
not one that goes and hangs out
at the malls, bars, and coffee shops
- checkin' the sites all night
always eyein' for a better user
jus' plug me into a digital darlin'
that'll coo to me softly in bed,
gently puts things in my ear
'stead a pullin' on my plastic,
and messin' with my head
this app should start up without
approval, from some faceless
god-knows-who behind some curtain -
this app should be approachable
not apprehensive to be with me -
this app needs to be appropriate
an' intuitivley know me for certain
i want my app - to be apropos
to appear not to disagree
baby, i'm so lonely tonight
listening to that ol' tinney playlist
gimmie some o' that bright lovin' you got,
that i felt before, but missed
my app is hot - hell I got 4G spots
a lifetime of apparently, is too long -
never mind the two year service plan -
don't want no dollar a minute call-in sex,
my damn phone's a better love, man!
tell you what baby,
have your avatar connect to my avatar,
we'll do a recharge together soon - maybe
