Fever Poems

Premium MemberA Fly Taught Me to Fly

It came like a whisper
on wings too dirty for angels,
a fly with no gospel—
just bloodlust and fire.
I don’t remember the bite—
only the stories they told me—
the brain-boil, the silence
of a body already leaving,
the baby too lethargic
to be called alive,
and the ice-water baths.

Above the crib, they hovered—
not angels, not flies,
but entities without names,
bodiless heads

Anti-Social Fever

People who live
Away from others
Are not necessarily mean
Solitary or anti-social
Perhaps they can't tolerate
Hypocrisy, fabrication
And realistic attitudes in their lives.

Fear Fever

In the quiet dark I see
every end

Clumps of hair stuck
to the walls

blood from under each door

there is someone in the closet, lurking

I feel it

delicacy is lost in my heart
I was made from violence
raised of violence
will end in violence

I have long cradled the bullet in the teeth

Fever Ward

Not a room for the waiting
or the receiving of the waiting,
but a room for a liquid thinking
a turgidity
that trickles through plastic tubes.

Is this where doors remain jammed
forever between Hospital floors?

Unseen, a wall clock drops
heavy packages of time
into narrow chutes,
latex handprints are shaken
from sterilized surfaces.
The regularity
of beep and whir mechanically
sucks light in and out.

The yoke recalls

Premium MemberCabin Fever

Open curtains
Pink sunrise
Yellow blanket
Clear blue eyes

Silken pillow
Rest your head
Lots of windows
Great big bed

Boho kitchen
Shoo fly pie
French-press coffee
You and I

You and I
Fireplace
Making music
Face to face

Weather forecast
Big snowstorm
Hold each other
Cozy warm

Us together
Without end
Loving sweetheart
My best friend

("In The Beginning There Was The Word, And The Word Was Good", 2019, original pen & ink)

Fever Dreams

Caught up in paranoid visions
Where nothing is what it seems
Where good is really bad
and bad is good
Where just below the surface
Great art lurks,
waiting to be discovered,
but always just out of reach
In this dream
survival depends on cutting your way

Fever Dream

In my fever dream,
I’m united with you.
I sit by the wake
and grieve over something
that I could never
call my own.
Questions pound my head,
leaving me with dizzying thoughts,
muffling the screams of
the demons in myself.
Every breath I take
is haunted by your presence.
Time goes on,
yet here I am,
by the grave grieving something,
I could never call

Zionism Fever

The Middle Eastern watch
As the Zionist regime tries
To assert its territorial area

Territorial integrity now threatened
They unleash terror on their enemies
Its called the holy land but why now
In the name of all that's sacred and holy
The continuous strife and endless wars

They talk of Abrahamic faiths at loggerheads
Be it though that The Lord is a Man of

Premium MemberThe Moon is Full and I Have Chagall Fever

The crescent moon and sunlight consumed by the moon’s fullness.
The violin violates the quiet and quaint acquaintance of an eyeful.

The cow, with its rudimentary cuds, could only curse the night.
The bull will not croon its lullaby; he & his Bessy will not take flight.

It’s a circus, peculiar, not meant for sleeping babes in arms.
Infants blink

Premium MemberCool Fever

Live music leaves me enthralled
as thuds of a drum, the intricate fondling from saxophone notes blast these veins
until intoxicated head convulses

when euphoric tunes pump in unabated--
jazz, R&B, wild soul, and rocking pop ignite
primal ectasy in the flesh...raw!

Pulse beat raised at 110, my torso gyring in motions uncontrolled--
the cortisol of anticipation surging through an

Premium MemberCool Fever

When I see him standing in the doorway
with that luscious grin upon his lips,
I cannot turn away
although I’m feeling flushed
as if a fever has grabbed a hold of me!

I meet his seductive gaze
and hope he cannot see
that I’m beginning to perspire.
Oh, cool cool fever; it has taken hold again.
How easily his being near me
causes

Morning Fever

Morning fever from a sleepless night
Soring eyes against the light
Throat that sores from barking strong
The yesterdays out in a song

Here I stand I feel the heat
That tries to surge my deep heartbeat
While prying eyes try to intrude
Them who are rough and crude

There was once a driver
Infected with yellow fever
Who passed it on to his woman
And she to the barman
And they all came down with a fever
