OUR CLAIM TO FAME

When I was young and in my prime,
I knew I’d be famous one day.
Although I hadn’t worked out how,
I was quite sure I’d find a way.

I’d play cricket or football for England
And win the World Cup again.
Then win an Olympic gold medal
And become a household name

Or maybe I’d be an actor,
A star of stage and

I'm waiting to die.
My years are behind me
So, don't ask me why.

When I was young,
It was often said,
You're never too tired;
You can sleep when you're dead.

Now that I'm old
And ready to rest, 
I trust in my savior.

No other tongue can sing our triumphs better—let’s not bung ours.
The choice to rise as best each hour is ours to take,

You can view your favorites from the teams
Of now or long ago.

     Sluggin’ Sammy Sosa socked 609 home-run rockets
        Mark McGwire built paranormal ‘popeye arms’

     Bodacious Barry Bonds broke beloved Babe Ruth’s records
        ‘Stars on steroids,’ they did baseball considerable harm  

 

Fame

I could be famous.
Through laughter, then evil laughter. 
Maybe sleep. 

I could be famous if I used all my power. 
Or I could be desperate. 
In thinking things. 

Somehow, secretly. 
Everyone became more famous than me. 
No one talks about it. 

Becoming more and more…
Reclusive. 
Writing things down.

So many people try for the good life
Along protecting that little bit of light

Fortune, fame, pearls are not
ingredients in stewed freedom pots
Truth beckons a timbre away
