Decimating Poems | Examples

Premium Member New year declaration

We were on our own
Minding our business

Weighed down by crushing unemployment
Thoroughly disillusioned by the art of promise and fail

We were disoriented by the perennial lie
Of being leaders of tomorrow

While we watched the promised future
Dissipate before our very eyes

Stolen by evil forces that have held the country
Down since after the flag independence

We were still minding our business
With dignified silence

As SARS kept on decimating our numbers
At any slightest provocation

Profiling us with ease as fraudsters
Defining us by how we looked

Instead of whom we really were
And we came out to protest this injustice

But we were brutally repressed
And ran for our dear lives

An election came in 2023
And we believed that with our numbers

We could take back our country
From the precipice of the devil and the deep blue sea

But we were brutally brought down to earth
By forces of calamity

However we remain undaunted
The forces of evil might seem to be winning

But we the youth will bring their blighted era
To a dismal end and that is our declaration!

Emptiness of Poetry

Poetry has left me again
I’ve bled the hills and trees for words
I’ve searched for verbs in the hours

When someone fills the emptiness
I will have no need for pronouns
No talk or fragments fulfills you

I woke frenzied in the morning
Put on headphones to muzzle thoughts
Anything but to hear your silence

When coffers are empty of nouns
I scrape the bottom of the barrel
Hoping for slick prepositions

You goad me to write an opus
To paint my vain adjectives true
To color not wanting replies

Resurrect wordly as Jesus did
Real as adverbs without fullness
To ascend to servers in glory

Craft a mind razor-sharp each day
Cutting through pronoun’s bull
Swinging conjunctions as swords

This poem has hemorrhaged me
I’ve bled for you till nothing’s left
Grammar paler with my emptiness

Careless of my prideful sharpening
Decimating mourning subjects
Fill me when objects go empty

*** Ecclesiastes 1:2
'Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.'

The Wolf Pack

The earth needs our love, support and constructive action. Wolves are exceptionally important to the ecosystem, and they are a blessing to all of us. May each of us treat wolves with love, dignity, compassion and respect. They have earned it.

The Wolf Pack
By Michelle Morris
10/01/2020

The Wolf Moon came 10 January
Alone crying high its mystery
The pack stood still in wonderment
Bonds formed moving onward.

Surrounding stars lighted skies
The wolf pack knowingly sighs
Mankind on brink of destiny
War and fire decimating history.

The wolf stood tall in the cold
His pack guiding his ever bold
Impart on humans the bravery
Of protecting all earth's sanctuary.

Premium Member God Knew Where To Leave Buddy

If we did not have a refrigerator
we would have nothing in the house unchewed
But luckily we do

At first we tried putting things on the kitchen table
It was not nearly high enough for this puppy
He can reach through the kitchen pass through also

Joe vacuumed yesterday
But I had to do it again
After Buddy drug out the mouse poison trap

Click Pop Crack Click Pop Crack Crack
I was horrified when I saw what he was decimating
He seems unaffected today

He is a chewing machine
But we love him; he was dropped off at the right place
God knew where to leave this one.

Western Lowland Gorillas

Western Lowland Gorillas are listed as, critically endangered
and they are most numerous and widespread of all gorilla subspecies
They are found in the Congo Basin, that has been humanly disadvantaged
and they in habitat, the densest remote rainforests, for their securities

Western Lowland Gorillas, are slightly smaller than their cousins
and have a brown-grey colour, with an auburn chest that looks muscular
Significant populations exist, in isolated swamps and swampy forests
but large numbers have not protected, the Western Lowland Gorillas

Their threats are poaching and disease, strongly decimating their numbers
by more than sixty percent, in the last twenty to twenty-five years
and they are hunted for bush meat, and captured to become human pets
If all threats were removed, it will be 75 years for their numbers to improve

Premium Member Woman In Chains

A naïve life possessed by the power of desire
turns into an object inanimate and utterly inert.
Existence untainted and vibrant if captured
by the cruel clutch of unrepressing lust,
rolls like fallen gems, the string ruptured.

The senses drenched in acidic insolence
don’t for a moment repent the presence
in dismal heart the perennial obsession
of fostering the desire in shades of grey ,
decimating the spirit of its possession.

For the body and mind ravaged by vile craving,
living is no longer an animated concept, it’s futile.
The sunken piteous heart breaks asunder to pile
at the threshold of disgrace in debris of disdain.
Where has sanity gone, times don’t have the answer.

The perception called life adored and fostered,
a precious treasure to be preserved with pride.
When it crumbles as an object used and discarded,
the heart pines to get unshackled in prison of hatred
to find solace for the shamed soul in oblivion.

Premium Member Nature's Alluring Song

Inviting is the vibrant smile, glistening visage of spring
Exciting sensuous hearts in nature’s alluring song
Sighting on marigold arc rising blush of magenta
Lighting dawn’s flamboyance awaited all winter long.

Blazing colors adorn exuberance of flaming-red lilies
Gazing at flowering trees, lilting in tender breeze
Raising tempo of romantic dreams, yearning bliss
Praising gift of ruby roses--beauty blushing to please.

Raining upon parched vegetation new season unfolds
Gaining on glumness of drought giggling river flows
Waning reign of sluggish tones in rear view mirror
Staining sunlit horizon gold, decimating frosty woes.

Sowing crops, tilling lands, farmers under the sun toil
Crowing about growing corn, weather mild, blue sky
Glowing in vibes of new life, hearing chicks’ feeble cries
Showing off emerald vistas where singing Blue Jays fly.

Vapidity

Woe betide lower men who fickle facades embrace
And wit’s hard-won gold for shifting dross exchange;
Dubbing avarice-sired glosses exquisite gems pure,
With obscuring eyes decimating solid worth's range.

With their own ears they cannot first-hand hear,
And gauge if wild grapevines solid realities say;
There's always standard hearsay in each sphere,
That defines world’s weightier subjects of the day.

It's the stark lack of depth in these artless geeks
That hatches and pupates corporate hydras’ fads:
Gimmicks-iced shenanigans to sate whims of cads;
Lie-tipped rackets hymned by classist parrot beaks.

They're the distant acquaintance who moans louder
Than the actual first-bereaved's grief-laden shoulder.
You behold the fairy eye riled by wetting garlic wafts,
That gives its tear to one unhurt by the vexing shafts.

Methinks all existence and its rigged veneers would have ceased,
If the few manipulating hucksters on its skewed stage so pleased!

Let Misinterpretation Remain Sparse

Human race, don’t boast on the casualty coast
Frisking, seeking, pricking and nicking the truth
On a continental coast as to your truth you toast
Sending to Coventry the uncouth

Pummeling the truth, belittling the youth
Whose views you deride
As your rollercoaster swings South
In the company of your petty pride

In tow to brandish the interpretation
You vaunt with no iota of shame
At the place of honour you accord to the incantation
You blurt in the claim

You push far above merit
Twisting the truth, alienating allies
Although the truth you fail to inherit
In the realm where lies and flies

Sometimes cohabit
Dancing in tandem with hubris
Cultivated into a horrible habit
Which tends to increase

At sunup, at sunset
When the truth cries
Causing a major upset
As the zone of the truth decries

Sufferings the truth endures
In diverse fora
Where jesters ensure cures
Arrive fast to prevent error and terror

From decimating puritan platforms
Preventing them descending into the farce
That demeans the truth in its multifarious forms
While ascertaining misinterpretation remains sparse.

Premium Member The Life of Death

dark she rode stealth into the night
 grasping unsuspecting souls at will

 flagrantly impudent and remorseless
 decimating dauntless troops
 she showed no clemency

 under the veil of night
 in muffled silence swept
 shrouded death in full flight
 while angels stood and wept

 bereft forewarning
 shells of bodies stacked behind
 confiscated souls
 how fleeting the illusion
when passes the life of death

Premium Member An Object Called Life

A thing possessed by power desires exert
turns into an object inanimate and inert.
A life untainted and vibrant if captured

rolls like fallen beads, the string ruptured.

in dismal heart the perennial obsession
of fostering desires in their grey essence,

Where has sanity gone, times don’t ponder.

The conception called life adored and prized

When it wrecks to crumble in an object ravaged
the heart spawns hatred stowing love aside
and doesn’t find a place for the soul shamed.

Coda

Humans are moving into space and beyond
The planet they call home will soon be dead
and gone
They succeeded doing what none did before
Killing a planet where life prospered millions
of years or more
Destruction began with animal resources
Then draining the earth of all its life forces
Earth's atmosphere didn't escape the
decimating act
It was the last to go in actual fact
They built a space vehicle …a latter day
Noah's ark
And they're now lost in space in cosmos'
frozen dark
They haven't a plan on where they'll go
But found the universe is a rocky horror

The Raven

Loathe
The Raven
Flying around and caws at thy
Landing on head stones that shine blissfully
Decimating the realm of tranquility
Black feathers that repel the light of GOD
Darkness follows the Raven
Wherever he may roams
I dislike writing about him in my poems
Loathe
The Raven
Being so bold
Not being shooed away as he was told
Circling above you can get so old
Bearing down and weakening ones soul
Only to be known as
Darkened Soul
Loathe
The Raven
As he is cold
Stare into his eyes of darkness
And you will be told
Loathe
The Raven
Bestowed as the angel of death
I am told
Lingers wherever he goes
