The Life of Death

dark she rode stealth into the night
 grasping unsuspecting souls at will

 flagrantly impudent and remorseless
 decimating dauntless troops
 she showed no clemency

 under the veil of night
 in muffled silence swept
 shrouded death in full flight
 while angels stood and wept

 bereft forewarning
 shells of bodies stacked behind
 confiscated souls
 how fleeting the illusion
when passes the life of death

(4 successive forms: Crystalline, Kimo, Quatrain and Tanka)

so true this is, Line. This is a very elegant piece on death and its aftermath. I recall the life of death line and I love how you worked it to kill two birds with one stone (for contests). Congrats on this win or I might have never gotten to it!

An ominous feel to this well written poem Line. I find it interesting that you choose to portray death in feminine gender.

After reading this powerful, image-rich poem, Line, I'm struck with how magically you've combined the two faces of Death: The Angel of Death and the Grim Reaper. Kudos! :) Gershon

I wish I could take the credit, Caren. The brilliant idea of stringing four forms a requirement for Broken Wings' contest. It's an beautiful idea - increasing stanzas from 2 to 5.
