Daily affirmations are my constant prayer conversations with a higher spirit connected to my soul
Mirror mirror on the wall where does the reflection of my shadow fall?
The still bank looks at me and speaks with a closed mouth: “as far as you are willing to be”
Reflections of self are moments of the present cheating time to breathe seconds of the future
Because when I look in the mirror and my current self sees how gracefully growth aged to scar over the pain the past bled from
I can time travel with every repetition of these confirmations of truth
Learning my reflection is not just who I am but who I strive to be
p.s. keep fighting, a title for the letter to myself…

I was once a Romeo
In gallant quest of romantic love.
For sake of which I wandered far afield,
Past mills and quarries, foundries and farms
Where good folk tend their business
And useful things get done.
As spring gave way to winter,
I found the climate daunting,
With freeze and thaw displacing by upheaval
My belief in happily ever after.
My confirmations became suspicioned,
And my satisfaction curiosified.
My ratifications were soon dutifully amended
And my achievements ambitioned
To a more sensible view of reality.
Having suffered hard time in the punishment block,
Where one’s thoughts then tend
To either stagnate or germinate,
I arrived at this one eternal paradox:
Only fools dare ever fall in love,
While only love can save the foolish from themselves.

In the dimly lit abyss of this secluded tavern,
your solitary silhouette was ensnared within my raven tinted gaze.
Our eyes,
two celestial bodies,
collided in a waltz,
cascading down the crevice of our shared fate.
The reality of our connection,
as real as the obsidian night,
of love whispered from my lips to your eager ears.
"I adore you," I confessed,
each syllable a sacred vow,
an echo of truth reverberating in the hollows of my heart.
It was my essence that you had unmasked peeled away layer by layer, until all that remained was the raw,
pulsates of my being.
Do you reciprocate this fervor that consumes me?
Would you tether your soul to mine for all eternity?
Swear to me that your words are not mere illusions,
but the very satin of your truth.
Whisper your confirmations,
let them permeate the air,
and assure me that I am not a mere specter in your world.
As we dissolve into oblivion,
let our grip on each other remain unyielding.
Today, tomorrow, and in the infinite moments that follow,
let me be your guiding star,
your constant in the ever changing milky swirl.
Remember, my love.
I am here forevermore.

Reflection of poems, they may speak to a reader
Echoing upon them, an answer somewhat sought
Speaking somehow of confirmations to be heard
Opening up like a guiding light upon a dark path
No one knows why poetry can be the inspiration
A person will find within the written a poet words
Not even the writer knows why they get the words
Clearly, there is truth in poetry, which's a reflection
Sometimes, it can just be an answer a poet needs

The timing of the Universe.
Not entirely worth a wait,
for we were made with urgency and lack the patience.
The whisper of night -
present for the encouragement of unforeseen circumstances, rested upon bad decisions.
Souls speak too.
Bodies speak upon love languages left for the mind to unpack.
Highly effective, effortlessly.
We are surrounded by nature's way of convincing us of a greater being.
Pain stays aside happiness, all balanced to keep one above water -
nothing stays stagnant.
For as long as you live,
experiences give way to explorations ~
external confirmations of the world as our oyster.

My black son
He did not belong
Unwelcome
Unannounced and subsequently
Uninvited
To attend his predominately white Honors math class online
Confirmations abounded
With increasing befuddlement
By the substitute teacher
“Are You Sure?”
By a white classmate
Affirmed
Welcomed
Invited
Permitted to remain
After all
He did belong
My black son

Each time we learned, new life had been birthed,
down deep where true love grows quite fast;
Our greatest hopes, as parents unearthed,
the sum of our love's storied past.
Daily our preps, made for good cheer:
Maternity clothes and bookstores,
A decorated nursery, then poof—toys appeared.
All the while knowing each day you grew more.
The parties and gifts overwhelmed us,
sheer love shown by family and friends.
Baby kicks made us giggle—a definite plus,
at a time nervously filled, by infant odds & ends.
Big Sis came in ninety, Little Sis ninety-four,
Perfect babies in every way.
Confirmations of Joy, we've come to adore,
Our Miracles of creation, by Potter and clay.

I'm humble
mine is the kingdom of heaven
I'm mourning
I'll be comforted
I'm meek
the earth is my heritage
I'm hungry & thirsty for righteousness
I will be satisfied
I'm merciful
I'll obtain mercy
I'm pure of heart
I'm seeing God
I'm a peacemaker
I'm called son of God
I'm persecuted for the sake of righteousness
Mine is the kingdom of heaven

Whispers dance inside my head
Reflections glance at a substance dead
Confirmations of my unpoetical pen
Only white spaces mirrored back
No one has a word to say
The mirror tells I should go away
The oceans piers toss me deep
Into contemplation of my rude upkeep
Sheepish sins, bitter gin
The naked truth
No one reads my scribbles doo
Oh how my dribble makes me blue

Roads and Romans
Poem 1 Roads
Poem 2 Romans
Two poems by Bev Smith and Arthur Vaso
Form: Double Inverted Verse
Please read the poem “Roads” by Bev Smith first!

In fact the best way to read these poems are side by side.
Romans
As our journey begins
We never look back
Roman soldiers march only forward
To
New worlds and conquered lands
We travel with
Swords and hearts
Naively believing
Both are needed
To feed our lies
We learned
Lessons of greed and condescension
Others wept
As we flaunt our power
Yet we gave back many good deeds
Laws and roads
Wine and dreams
Truth or deceptions
We haunted them all
Saddled with civilization
We gave culture and art
Yet I the soldier still wonder
The right of our cause
Taking these tranquil moments
So that I gaze back to our past
Confirmations abound
On balance we advanced our faith
To better this precarious world
To discover life’s heartbeat
Every road we marched
We advanced the human cause
We seek
To expand
The Roman Empire

piles of dirt in the laundry room
mounds of confirmations unseen by the most obvious eye
hallways with doors that conceal rooms that darkness cannot even define
when a love for someone twenty years younger in the memory files is physically expressed to one that has written stories that define modern philosophies,
the heart can become extremely ill from the exposure to the currents of the current reality driving the choices of said one to modern journies of necessity
colors can be faded
machines can simply malfunction
electricity can loose its spark
even generators can lose its generation
this is when the poisonous sport of dwelling can be acidic to the prime of a life so iridescent
running scared, in this case, inspires positive emissions
running from you, oh shining example, has been the missing piece to the reripened puzzles to my recent, radiant experiences
that being said, thank for being the hypocritical liar that have proven yourself to be....

The Drift
by Odin Roark
How far such distance?
One’s birth is so innocent
Only to be lifted
Set alight to learn gravity
Where emotions
Intellect
Transcendence
All vie for a bit of influence
Such small minds
Of gaping eyes
Gaze at the unknown
While adults
Parents
Teachers
Clergy
Smile
Announce without foresight
Welcome!
So goes the drift
That levitational ricochet
Set up by massive influences
Bumping
Pulling
Shoving
Trajectories destined for…
Who knows?
Unknown reason
Becomes one’s journey
Even though some assume an answer
Wisdom suggests
We may not have a clue
Nature doesn’t play the same games
Human species wallow in
Our intelligence betrays us
Tricks us into believing
We have the answer
When all along
What if there be no confirmations
Only delusional answers?
Will we still plod forward
Believing we can overcome
The enigmatic gravitational force
That which often pulls our heart down
Usually into sadness
Our mind
Usually into crushing disappointment
Our souls…
Well
I’ll leave that to the supernaturally bright
The elite who know not drifting
At least not until…

....Saying one thing that I do is this, I never look back, rather
Keeping my eyes upon the prize in the high calling of God, I reach ahead ~
As I also do, although, never are these shadows of my once upon a times
Saturated within sinfuls life, do they escape the consciousness of truth
Inside; always brushing their wings these confirmations; thorns remain....
Reminding myself of how imperfect this body and mind and I, so truly am!?
Not that I should wantingly or willingly return unto this, its mires
Nor reaffix the fetters in marking its sorrows unto countless regrets for
While in doing this then, I shall have given the enemy their desire; desires....
Rendering void the cross of Christ Jesus and His precious lifes, priceless blood ~
Yet if we fight and I do so fight, with and within, these absolute truths?!
This perpetual war; but not with flesh and blood as I have also seen
Principalities and rulers of lost amid darker realms and, must I deny ~
Salvation; formed in The Word this armour, for a sinner such as myself....
