I'm intrigued by what there may be
'neath great depths of ocean and sea
Treasures lost from life's history
A mystery A mystery
What's buried under ocean sands
Pirate's plunder and wedding bands
I dream of finding pearls in strands
With my two hands With my two hands
Ancient vessels, sunken for years
found off the sea coast of Algiers
admired by Mesdames and Messieurs
Toasted with cheers Toasted with cheers
I'd drain one mile of a river
just one briny little sliver
What will its waters deliver?
Would I shiver? Would I shiver?
What secrets do the oceans keep?
Do monsters swim or do they creep?
I long to execute a sweep
In fathoms deep In fathoms deep
Curiosity in me wakes
To dive within uncharted lakes
and sea beds risen from earthquakes
How high the stakes How high the stakes
But sunken relics from the past
remain interred in oceans, vast
Bounty from ships with broken mast
My dream downcast My dream downcast

More than anything Nature fascinates me
Men living in close proximity to nature, I love to see
So I ramble into the city’s far outskirts
Watching ordinary people in commonplace pursuits
Imbibing much from the life of the peasantry
Whom none can beat in life’s lessons elementary
How they interact devoid of all cold formality
And remain free from all artificiality
I inhale the fragrance of the wayside blooms
Watch kingfishers and parakeets in colorful plumes
My eyes never miss Nature’s minute caprices
And I rejoice in home bound birds’ sonatas
I watch the daylight paving way for the night
And the sun willfully surrendering his might
I listen to the invisible choir, singing in the dark
That breaks the sacred silence of the dusk
How these common scenes fill me with delight
Nevertheless making me sorry for the unhappy plight
Of those unable to enjoy any ordinary scene
And turn their backs to pleasurable sights umpteen
Blessed are those who have eyes to see and feel
And remain happy being close to Nature’s heel
Whose ears are attuned to the beats of the average
And who need no other intoxicating beverage
Those who get a kick out of the commonplace
And seek everyday banal sensations to embrace

Who would answer if I knocked?
A little gnome in stripey socks.
Would he call out, “ Who dares to knock.”?
Or sic on me his pet blue fox.
Would it be a lonely hobbit
wearing cobbled boots he wears by habit
and a cobwebbed hat of furry rabbit
Sipping mead from a wobbly goblet?
It doesn’t look like a fairy would
for it isn’t decked how a fairy twould
with childhood dreams and elfinwood
Convinced I am of the likelihood.
Who ever lives in this tiny abode
Their door to the world has long been closed.
Where a peaceful meadow once outflowed,
Paved up to the door by a busy road.
What happens when we die? I really want to know!
I’m getting up in age and am ready for the show!
Religious fundamentalists say things won’t be good
for souls unbaptized or for those not living as they should.
I went to church when younger and followed rules as well,
but I hear discrepancies regarding heaven and hell.
Because I’m not one given to spiritual displays
such as Holy Roller moments, I’m somewhat in a daze!
Testimonies others give confound me even more.
Would God send most to hell if they didn’t know what for?
The Chinese have no preachers. People think so differently
depending on their upbringing; it’s all perplexing me!
And so with fascination, I read books or I hear
of people having NDE’s, which takes away my fear.
Away from Heaven’s lovely light these “dead” souls get yanked back.
Inside their bodies once again, fear’s now a thing they lack!
How marvelous it has to be – to feel within your heart
sensations of that place from which you did not wish to part.
All things regarding after-life and pre-existence too
make me utterly enthralled. I know such things are true.
Too many people have things happen while they’re lying dead
for it to be hallucinations . It’s truth to which they’re led.
Reincarnation also once had been a Christian view.
Astrology ties into this, and that I’ve studied too.
I think the minds of humans are too small to comprehend
the otherworldly things we all will learn of in the end.
Psychics, ghosts, UFO’s, and things like ESP.
What do they mean? How awesome really knowing it would be!

Please say thank you~don't be rude
Ever sit and watch people feud
Over the hills and valleys to
People say crazy things that make me come unglued
Laughing until I am blue
Even some I think belong in the zoo

Colors, amber, tangerine
Gold and hues of deep scarlet
Rustling in the quiet prayers
Of those who hear His breath
In the silence of a moment
Whispering Autumn magic
Melodies of gentle squirrels
Preparing for the winter
Charming birds in gilded coats
Praising the creator with chirps
Chortling songs, melodies
Lingering on the crisp air
Wonders alive, like dancing leaves
Inspiring hearts and souls
To listen to the vibrant glory
Echoed in shadows, silhouettes
Branches near emptied of hope
Almost naked, they aspire the wind
It’s the season of breathtaking
Scenes, praising the One who made
A way to leave the Summer’s heat
With promise of humbling revelations
Calling from the sing-song applause
Of nature’s stunning abode
Listen to Autumn’s silence shout
This is the splendor of a season’s caress
Kissing the heart and soul with joy
Touching the spirit with earth’s precious laughter
The soaring elation of God’s sigh
Ringing His heavenly fascinations…
As Autumn smiles!

I’m mesmerized by the ocean.
Whether it’s almost silent and still
or thunderous and in turbulent motion,
I’m in awe and cannot get my fill.
The majesty of so vast a creation
overshadows each sight and sound
around me. During contemplation,
all else simply fades into the background.
Wading in its shallow, surging foam
is pleasurable, but I prefer
gazing at it from a distant cliff. When I’m home,
in my mind’s eye, the waves will stir.
I don’t have to sail the “ocean blue”
or know all the life that teems within
to be mesmerized by the magnificent view
of the ocean. Soon—I will see it again.
*"Columbus Sailed the Ocean Blue" is the title of poem by Jean Marzolo.

"Art washes away from the soul
the dust of everyday life."
Quote by _Picasso
I love to immerse myself in art ...
to submerge my soul ... and saturate my mind
and become engaged and enriched
I am left a more enhanced person
when surrounded with art I am nourished
it shakes the ocean of my sleep
~ I step into an ethereal world of landscapes
and set sail on a journey
when I enter the art gallery ~
adore the European Christian paintings,
the Renaissance and Gothic paintings I love too
even the frames interest me
I am very inspired by Contemporary
there is an interior garden to rest and ponder
and a re-creation of a catholic church to pray
weekly I let my eyes 'drink' it all in
~ while there I visit my friends Monet, Van Gogh,
Botticelli, Bellini, Raphael and Michelangelo
Titan, Rubens, Hogarth, Picasso, Leonardo
and so many more ~
I stand still- my mind on fine threads of thought
and each visit is ... fascinating
... I leave in awe .. full of inspiration

(the art is by Monet)
They say Napoleon at his death
had a half inch object in his neck.
He often claimed he had been abducted
By strange men in a strange looking object.
I sometimes wish they would take me too.
Although I'm not much good past fifty two.
Seemingly it's our eggs they're after.
As they have over biologised their sex factor.
They are worried about our human race.
As we rush headlong at a rapid pace.
To have Gaia exhale her last breath.
End our blessed lives here on Earth.
I believe in UFO's, don't you?
In this unending galaxy we are miniscule.
Men in black keep the facts well hidden.
To know the truth we are forbidden.
It’s fascinating to think we may all be
on the brink of extermination in a blink.
What does Putin really think?
Time will tell….
My fascination excels each time
sun descends, giving Earth a kiss.
There is no poetry, not a Rhyme
to tell of my reaction to bliss.
Sun leaves a trailing, lest we forget
her majesty, as dusk circles nigh.
Her colors that glow--a special set
dazzle even the wandering eye.
From butterscotch to apricot skies,
with amber, scarlet and ruby wine.
As clouds don robes in a sunset's guise
The moon even seems to pause its climb.
Cascades of colors greet weary souls,
each night, looking to a sunset sky.
Glimpses of beauty as they unfold,
around the ebb of Sun's phantom tide.

Honorable Mention
What fascinates me
is we fail to see
truth before our eyes
and bliss beats that rise.
Objects we behold,
around our mind rolled,
are present in space,
manifest by grace.
Before we exhale,
to again inhale,
there’s a pregnant pause,
of this dream world’s cause.
What fascinates me
is we fail to see
that we’re breathed by God,
yet not overawed.
Body is but dust,
from Mother Earth’s crust,
which we then ensoul,
to play our life role.
This world is but thought,
that heart’s desires brought.
If we be but still,
voids within will fill.
What fascinates me
is we fail to see
that we’re living light,
bubbling with delight.

This music that is playing on this bus
Is robust, cheerful and energetic.
African beat if there ever was,
To give the journey a touch of magic.
It brings pep into my African foot,...
Like I could stand and start moving
And start people wondering what's afoot
That an adult man could do such a thing!
Yet a work colleague of mine
Did exactly that the other day.
He was clearly feeling fine,
In the passage dancing away!
Such is the character of our job.
Very deep its lows can be.
It has actually caused people to sob
And can make one feel really shabby!
Therefore, when a good moment comes
The likes of us can feel elated,...
Can take the floor without any qualms
When by music he is liberated!
How cool to sway naïves unaware,
Cooler still, a man of ken fair,
Even a wall were I persist,
Not one— a half-wit puffed with air!
How pundits are plagued with spite’s tide,
Powerful with over-spilling pride,
Green horns nigh uninitiated,
Vexed, my verses had once decried.
One may from a croc’s jaws get free,
May sail across a maddened sea,
Wrap a cobra around his neck,
How hard to please one, fool that be!
Not so hard to get oil from sand,
Quench thirst off mirage in parched land,
Even to fetch a rabbit’s horn,
How hard to bring round a ham hand.
What fascinates: world’s attitude,
In other’s ill luck feeling good—
Schadenfreude and a Freudian glee,
How world’s today stuck with the crude!

I stand in awe of courageous women
Brave women who have broken out
Thrown off the shackles of domination
Said there is more to life, I deserve it
Who speak passionately without fear
And are willing to die for a just cause.
I stand in awe of thoughtful women
Who raise their children with values
Teaching them to do what is right
Admonishing them when necessary
Realizing they are molding the future.
I stand in awe of strong women
Who claim their rightful place in life
Teaching by excellent example
Unafraid to be bold when bullied.
I stand in awe of gracious women
Who stand tall and wear a smile
Who are admired for their presence.
I stand in awe of talented women
Who sing, dance and make us laugh.
I stand in awe of my mother!

[The title doesn't really fit my poem, but I can
change it after the contest]
The cascading stream murmurs as it flows on plateau
through the draping emerald forest fostering opulence,
splashes silver streaks on the wavy contours of the vale
with flicking torrent like the swan flock in fervent flight.
It meanders in lively loops on verdant swathe of ferns,
sprinkling with exuberant strings of splattering pearls.
It glides serenading through their symphony of silence,
blending with the whispering tune of the rippling wind.
Flying over the crystalline water of the bubbling flow,
the returning robins twitter joyous springtime song.
As in the boughs of trees the new satin leaves rustle,
beguiling butterflies flitter around color burst flowers.
The sapphire night sky above silhouetted forest canopy,
wears the bejeweled stellar crown of the twinkling stars,
silver tinsels trickle through diaphanous moonshine film,
in a trance I’m fascinated by nature’s awesome splendor.
