From childhood it was a world of two...you and I...
I leaned lightly, leisurely against your heart and you let me in.

We were five I use to draw you rose scented flowers
using an ordinary led pencil. Youth! The world was ours.

Seven!  I know that was the first time I saw you blush.
I whispered a song for you so no one else would hear.

Oh when we were nine! The potato sack race.  I entered with Lisa.
You gave me that look. Oh that look!  And you  left without a word.

At eleven years old I had my "magic wink". "A Magic Wink" you'd
say sarcastically.  How it made you giggle to make fun of it.

It was at thirteen we decided to burn the gym floor with our moves.
Our first dance.  You stole my breath. Emptied the room of oxygen.

Fifteen...we started running and my God we ran and ran...
our shoe prints dug into the concrete. It was then I knew. Forever.

Then suddenly at seventeen in the slip of time you left, dissapeared.
Stunned! I slept through the next two years even in the full light of day.

At nineteen I swam an endless pool but even the chlorine couldn't
clear your scent from my memory as my spirit filled out hard as steel.

Was it on my twenty first birthday you showed up? You showed up
tried to hug me hello. Silent! Cold! I turned and walked away.

Was I still twenty one when I apologized for that day. When you asked
for an explanation. I recited false words but we both knew. Hurt for hurt.

Then at twenty five we still had issues to work out. I asked you bluntly
why you cut me loose in the prime of our youth. You my first and only.

I asked the question that burned in my gut. Without words your eyes spoke.
You were still in love with me. There was only me. I your first and only.

Finally our lips met to never part again. Left to wonder why, I accept our
lives without an answer. My love was that. Why would I have let you go?

Older than old now. One last time you leave. Death makes this choice.
Alone again I remember how I never knew why once you left.

Not everything  is explained or understood,
like music by a one arm man playing a violin.

I sport my blank stare. Naked is the body of life.
Mystery sings blind the song of the lark!

and I...

i think of you.

STARRY, STARRY NIGHT

I often look up towards the sky at night,
And wonder who or what is there,
I shout out loud, if you see or hear me, I love you,
I do this every night, the starry sky, an absolute delight!
I drive out of the city to the Kruger Park,
There, not only am I close to nature and serenity,
But to the universe, I look up, no pollution,
I stretch my arms up high, excited, it is very dark!
No street lights, or cars headlights, or any noise,
The moon is so bright and full, it smiles at me,
Quite rare, for normally the moon looks a little sullen,
The stars, I’ve lost count, as they twinkle with such poise!
The Milky Way so clear, I feel I want to reach up high,
As it allures me, and weaves across the sky,
Milky, so graceful and silent, as it, and I watch
Sparkling stars, and planets rotating, unknown
To mankind, yet to be discovered in our eternal
Galaxy to which I want to fly!
Our universe has constellations of stars, named mostly
After mythology’s gods, who beckon, tempt and wink
And entice me, but I am on planet earth, how near
Could I reach this flamboyant display, body, soul
And mind, holistically!
So maybe if I look up into our never ending
Sky at night,
And wish upon one star, with imagination
That runs rampant,
I will see above and far beyond with breathless anticipation,
What I could never imagine, an explosion that blinds me,
An aura, translucently bright!

Cry of the City

We will walk then, you and I

When daylight shuts her weary eye;

Down the streets where beggars sleep

And drug crazed addicts spend their keep.

On streets that wind through thick and thin

Past monuments of broken sin

The painted whores who smile a lot

A rejected child that time forgot.

The evening hymn that sorrows sing

The call to prayer that church bells ring;

The sounds and smells that rape a city

The calls for help that won't find pity.

Do we have time to heal the curse

That captures all the universe

Or would it really be worthwhile

To quell the question with a smile?

But we have walked these streets before

And hoped our ears could dim the roar

Of silence gripping cold nightmares

That come unbidden up the stairs.

We share the night with lesser fools

Who stake their plight without sound rules

For each new challenge finds old pain

That lives to give then comes again.

Premium Member Fifty-Three Shades of Grey

in the uncoloured tint of another everyday
amongst the spit polished waxed apples
tightly packed in burlap bags
they walked like minded
in their own burly wrap
oblivious to the irony
to their similarity
of the markets round red fruit
unaware of the tragedy
the horror of events yet to come

it will rain metal shrapnel
as human minds grasp
with the purpose of their existence
as in their ignorance
they understand their worth as human bombs
with a belief the heavens will open the gates
with a fanfare and a promised blessing
for their divine act of unquestioned belief

the clay shaped bricks
the black iron metal stairs
the drum sound of engines
then the lull

not after

but before

before

the pulse of the storm
the rain of death

yet this moment captured
this photograph
with man and child in hand
smells sweet
you wonder

bemused

why?

the world travels
aimlessly
singularly

no one

nothing in the universe

suggests
exposes
even a hint
even a glimpse
not a clue

that would lead

reveal

an answer.

life in its contradiction
like the proverbial apple
offers both
the miracle
the curse.

The Universe of You

I have never seen a flower blush when I took it's hue
and held it there a prisoner captive to my view.

I have always heard the song that's in the autumn breeze
playing taps in harmony with the forest leaves.

I love the smell of rain that brings the springtime into bud
and swells my love of nature into a teeming flood.

I celebrate the cycle of the daytime into night
and find an equal blessing in the shadow and the light.

I've always felt affinity for all created things
and surrender to the pleasure that their beauty brings.

And though I could spent a lifetime sailing drops of dew
I've never seen a universe as beautiful as you.

I've often sat myself by gentle mountain streams
and overflowed the dams that were holding back my dreams.

I've breathed the scented forest on the mountainside
and washed away my sorrows in an evening ocean tide.

I've laid down in a meadow and debated with the moon
and spent some quiet moments on the surface of Neptune.

I got married to a zodiac with one of Saturn's rings
then spied a super nova and went on a cosmic fling.

I've run away to nebulae in galaxy brochures
and bathed in scenes of wonders on distant planet shores.

Every cosmos in creation could parade before my view
but I've never seen a universe as beautiful as you.

I've never seen a tree once withdraw it's shade
and deny a creature the comfort of its aid.

I've never seen any anger in the sun at noon
when it burns relentlessly on the desert dune.

At sunrise I take an oath to live with all my might
and reinforce my gratitude each and every night.

I could spend some hours riding on a crystal flake
drifting wildly in a gale mindless of my fate.

Many times I've been through trials of wind and rain and snow
then sentenced to the splendors that the seasons show.

And though I've searched throughout creation, I must say this is true
I've never seen a universe as beautiful as you.

Hills come alive with sweet sounds of birds whistling tunes
Filled with harmonious peace, you sail within time
Gentle whispering winds through branches of trees call

When you dare to take the first step forward
Everything feels so easy embracing such beauty
Mixing voices of nature talk deeply flowering

Thrown into the unknown life is truly magical
A universe inside feelings explode in one gift
The soul eclipsing delight warmed with sunshine rays

Like a virgin being on guard of the tiger claws, lions, bears and snakes
Only when your starlight kisses clouds evaporate
Time continues and the butterfly waltzes freely once more

Crossing paths in this journey new beginnings grow
Small wild strawberries threaded upon a stem beg to taste
Opening one gateway within thoughts

Setting sail into another world beyond
With you salt of the ocean waves rise and fall
Upon rocks kissing pillar of strength

A cool breeze says goodbye upon your cheek
Loving spices land this boat on paradise sands where gold sparkles warm beams
When we meet at Heaven's gate batting lashes close entering a doorway into a dream

Premium Member Loving Helena

The chair is her home, her universe now
It is all that her many years will allow
Helena’s elegant beauty once shone
Now her mind wanders a world of its own

Age has changed her body but not her heart
Many great stories she’d always impart
To the wide-eyed grandchild she admired so
A girl who has loved her since long ago

Tales of black velvet gowns in which she’d dance
Soft moonlit beaches where she found romance
Economic hardships that came to pass
The rise and the fall of each social class

Her hands and face are now weathered with age
Accounts of the past still flow from this sage
And though some repeat again and again
I still listen now, just as I did then

I’ve memorized these tales, her gifts to me
And always I’ll remain her devotee
It matters not that my name escapes her
Love from her eyes she can always confer

Grandma brushes fingers across my face
And whispers, “Beautiful,” as we embrace
Though I miss years when she knew me so well
I know in the past her memories dwell

My love for her lingers, it always will
I take comfort knowing she loves me still

Rhythmic tones form a most beautiful symphony of love
A shining star as nature's splendor reflects Heaven’s light
It’s my destiny to learn a passion and purpose to use now
Even for a moment, I would not change for you’re my love
And love is a blessing, an eternal gift that keeps on giving
Take your wish, shattered dreams—leave this world behind
And we shall seek and find a togetherness with lullabies pure
For each new emotion my heart shall always find you dearest

Sending warm golden stirring echoes dancing into your dreams
Softly lips whispering so gently in the air as a loving tune sings
As the warm sun lights up our footsteps treading on golden sands
Perfect maiden you’re the siren ringing bells for midnight chimes
True precious bride inside the heart you have keys to all the doors
Walk with me hand in hand as the soul breathes and butterflies sigh
Ocean waves crash—kissing salt of the earth as windows flutter free
Safely sitting on the throne as the crown graces a fair maiden queen

Our special music reflects the precious nature of our love dearest
As we share enchanted moments with each other so real and pure
When I take your hand in mine, I feel the magic warmth of passion
When I gaze into your eyes, I sense the depth of our love forever
The delight I share with you dear one defies all human description
And so my love—enjoy the oneness we share as two souls together
As we bask in God’s own heavenly light and music in His Universe
Our hearts unite as one in forming a most beautiful symphony of love

Your feathered words arrive tickling my ears
The tip of your nose brushes
The back of my neck
My skin awakens

I have been calling you
Calling you back into my consciousness
My heart
My soul

Speak to me.... let me hear you
Your deep voice
Your warm breath
I feel you on my cheeks

Memories of our times together
Dancing in the raindrops
Naked...laughing
Warm pink drops
Cascading through the canopy of
A million greens above us

Sunlight seeping through
A kaleidoscope throwing rays of light
Shafts and shadows embracing your form
Noir velvet and gold shimmer
An ethereal statue before me

Sitting cross legged on mammoth leaves
We press our palms together
Looking into your eyes
Past now...to before
And back to now again
A forever embrace cradled in unity

Overhead the drip drop melody of
A thousand tears
Falling from the heavens
Audible in form
We have been here before
Surrounded in green majesty

Gazing towards a swaying tribe of ladybugs
Red with black spots
Surrounded in light...glowing
Radiating love

I hover above you spread eagle
Close enough to caress your forehead
With my lips
Leaving a gentle imprint
A message of hope

Fly with me to the clouds
Where we may gallop and play
Frolicking through lush planetary fields

Fly now...ride on my white wings
Up....up ...up
Past turmoil and confusion
Tragedy and loss
Through the lavender veil
To cloudbursts and mist
Mystery and rebirth

Infinite space and distant time surround us
We gasp and giggle
Weightless vibrations inhabit us

Turning towards each other in delight
We cartwheel through the sky
And make snow angels
On the hills of magenta clouds

Premium Member The Stars and Beyond

As we speculate the clear evening sky
Iridescent with gems, which we call stars,
Alive in our hearts stir the endless dream
To unwind and solve the puzzles of Earth-
The unfathomed vastness of cosmic space.
Since time began, this has been our great wish.

Because of this strong and enduring wish
Our minds are forever drawn to the sky,
Where in the blankness of great timeless space
Drift all the planets, our Sun, Moon, and stars.
And amidst it all, our minuscule Earth-
Seems lost in this cloudy, galactic dream.

But humans will always anxiously dream
Of someday achieving this inborn wish;
Discovering answers about the Earth;
Exploring the unknown realms of the sky
To find our way among planets and stars,
Erasing boundaries of time and space.

What truths does it hold, this infinite space?
Will answers always be- vague as a dream?
Do other planets with suns as our stars
Have beings like earthlings who hope and wish?
Do they gaze at their vast eternal sky;
Know of our galaxy, Sun, Moon, and Earth?

Though we're secure on this great mammoth Earth,
When we contemplate the vastness of space,
We know we are only dust in the sky
And our importance dissolves like a dream,
For matter not how we wonder and wish
We are naught amid the planets and stars.

Gems on black velvet, our heaven of stars;
So close they all seem to mortals of Earth;
So often we stare at them- make a wish-
Yet billions of light-years measure the space
In between. When will we wake from our dream?
Solve all the puzzles that darken our sky?

Twinkle on, great sky, with your rhinestone stars-
Continue, sweet dream, for beings of Earth!
Eternal as space, is our hope and wish!

Night Silence

Twilight evokes my tranquility and silence of the night,
with my peaceful guidance between the moon and the stars,
the placid eclipse in the universe is so calm and bright,
I play my melodies so gently on my acoustic guitar.

With my peaceful guidance between the moon and the stars,
there is a symphony shining through the constellations,
I play my melodies so gently on my acoustic guitar,
between sundown and nightfall there is a correlation.

There is a symphony shining through the constellations,
I feel a tune so vibrant with echoes of a midnight chorus,
between sundown and nightfall there is a correlation,
I see the paragon moon reflect equanimity before us.

I feel a tune so vibrant with echoes of a midnight chorus,
the stillness exclaims compassion for the world to see,
I see the paragon moon reflect equanimity before us,
Mother Nature has created nocturnal brilliance, so free.

The stillness exclaims compassion for the world to see,
for some the silence of nightfall seems so hard to find,
Mother Nature has created nocturnal brilliance, so free,
as the halcyon dusk sets, ready for the destiny of mankind.

For some the silence of nightfall seems so hard to find,
the placid eclipse in the universe is so calm and bright,
as the halcyon dusk sets, ready for the destiny of mankind,
twilight evokes my tranquility and silence of the night.

The Festival of Lights, Chanukah has arrived
a hopeful time of praise each year revived.
The Menorah lit, each home becomes a church.
Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe.

Our sister Miriam lights the shamash taper first
a maiden fair and scholarly her prayers rehearsed
to bring together all that's beautiful, diverse.
Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe.

Eight nights we praise the L-rd for gifting us with Light
and pass around small things which bring delight.
We rejoice. In brotherhood we are immersed.
Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe.

May G-d in his greatness light all your days
May family, friends, and foes mend their ways
for all have needs, let kindness tame their thirsts
Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe.

Peering beyond reach of human capacity
I revolve around the sun in a solar orbit,
Looking deep in space for origins of bygone
Going way beyond anyone has ever gone,
Exploring unknown world of astronomy
Searching light from first stars and galaxies
Traversing back in time where it all began,
Forming our universe after the Big-Bang.

Some 13.6 billion light-years my eyes reach,
Studying evolution, formation of galaxies,
Vast, colorful, mysterious shapes and sizes,
Eying origins of life and planetary systems
Probing, discovering, unfathomable infinity,
For one light-year equals six trillion miles~
A feat, only for the confidence of audacity.

I capture images spectacular to every sight,
Viewing light that is invisible to human eye
Locating nebulae, gas planets, dust clouds,
Collision of galaxies where stars are born,
Traversing back in time where it all began,
Probing galactic universe~ terra incognita.

No longer a phantasy, I am real as can be,
An eye of science and a mind of curiosity,
Intellectual tenacity and proof of ingenuity,
In acumen and wisdom of Astrophysicists,
I am the bold vision of infrared astronomy,
I am the flight vying hypnotic destination
Buoying on wings of scholarly inspiration.

Much is yet undone, for I have just begun,
Orbiting diligently until my work is done,
Until dreams become reality of my mission.

For insight into creation, I am the ray of hope~

Has the convenience of technology
inoculated us from reality?
Do androids dream of electric sheep?
I pray the code my soul to keep?
Does your universe live within 4G
Or megapixel infinity?
Which memory lies within
The one that was
Or the one that's been
Or how much gig how much ram?
Which reality is true?
Cyber me
Or cyber you?
Cyber bully
Cyber crime
Cyber hate
Cyber time?
Cyber boxer
Or cyber brief?
Who is the real identity thief?
Cyber pleasure
Cyber pain
Hours spent glaring into the screen
Choosing an alternate username.
Status updates and trending tweets
Fill your mind and rob your sleep.
Clever hashtags and Instagram
Will shape your image and gain more friends.
Is the you you've shaped in cyberspace
The same you I'd see face to face?
We hide behind our computer screens
And criticize with brutal ease.
Virtual reality
Is buying souls of men you see
And robbing the ability to dream real dreams.
I want to conquer something real
That I can grab that I can feel.
I want to touch life and hold on tight
I want to unblock true friends
And "like" real sights.
I want conversation face to face
In real world time
In a real world place.

Premium Member In the Middle of the Universe, I Stand

In the middle of the universe, I stand
My mind seeking comprehension
The mysteries of life tantalize my tenacious grip on wisdom
I stand
Observing omnipotent organization
The universe expands as I stand in wonder
What does it all mean?
Infinite answers press against my finite mind
Clamoring for recognition
I stand: dazed, amazed, crazed
By all I don’t know and can never fathom
Until there is light
And the light dawns
And the meaning of the universe unravels

Your celestial body orbits mine
Time after time
Your gravitational force defies logic
Refusing to stay in the paths ordained
The laws of nature are flaunted
and...we collide
My head is crowned with your constellation kisses
I travel in the nebula of your dreams and fantasies
As you dip into my body the Milky whiteness of your WAY
The universe explodes in the starry heavens of your eyes
Meteorite words of ecstasy
Streak across my sky of consciousness
Blazing...

Time becomes a non-entity
The mystery of love overshadows the mystery of life
And now I see…
The beginning and end of all creation
The sum total of my existence
Of life
Of the universe
Of...EVERYTHING
Is here
It’s eternal

In the middle of the universe, I stand
I understand
The universe is LOVE
