Contest Description

This is part three of the Easter Series.  This contest also has its own prizes.

Prizes:

There will be four jewelry (or writer's notebook) prizes awarded for four first-place entries in this contest, including an Austrian crystal tiara pictured below for the best "first day of spring" poem.  Green jewelry will be awarded to for the best St. Patrick's Day poem.  Jewelry prizes will also go the the first-place winners in the Earth Day and International Women's Day catagories.

Points earned in this contest also go toward the Easter grand prize, a valuable multi-gemstone pendant set in 18 carat gold and sterling silver.  I created a chart to keep track of poets' points.  Four first-place winners will all receive five points.  Second place (and there may be several this time) will receive 4 points.  Third and fourth-place receive three points.  Fifth or lower will get two points.  All poems on the righ topics and in correct form (8-15 lines) will place.

What to submit:

Please submit one new or old 8 to 15-line poem about one of the four following events in the month of March:

March 8 - International Women's Day

March 17 - St. Patrick's Day

March 20 - First Day of Spring  (Be especially creative if you choose spring and please do not focus only on flowers/plants.  It would be nice to see a fresh approach.)

March 20 - International Earth Day

There is no need to put a date on your poem unless you want to do so.  No need to mention the contest or sponsor.  Choose a creative title!

Forms:

Choose from any free-verse or rhyme form that does not include repeating lines. Entries may be serious or humorous.  Limericks are welcome as long as the form is correct:  Lines 1,2 and 5 have the same number of syllables (7 to 10) and rhyme with each other.  Lines 3 and 4 have the same number of syllables (5 to 7) and rhyme with each other.  I'll be impressed if you do the meter, but it is not required.  To me, humor is the most important aspect of Limericks.

Check spelling, grammar and punctuation before submitting poems.  Take your time!

Green jewelry for the first-place St. Patrick's Day winner includes Aventurine, Peridot, Green Onyx, Green Tiger's Eye, etc.  The first-place Earth Day winner's Tree of Life pendant is done in Turquoise.  Other jewelry will be awarded to the first-place entry on International Women's Day.  Below is a peek at the Tiara for the First Day of Spring first-place winner.:
