I Wait For You

I have been counting all the days Till your return, then we’ll embrace Where flowers bloom beside the stream. With beating heart and eyes that gleam I would inhale your fragrant scent And taste your lips, with your consent. All dressed in green, with flowing hair A spell you wield my maiden fair! But now it is the twenty-first And I still hunger, I still thirst. For jealous winter spoiled our date Abused its grip to make you late. Outside it’s raining, dark and cold There is no rainbow to behold! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - First Day of Spring Contest Hosted by Carolyn Devonshire Placed 1st © 17th February 2019

I dig it; I'm highly impressed by your use of so many different poetic forms - is this a sonnet in disguise? :)

I'm pleased you enjoyed it, J.I. It's similar to a sonnet, except that it has only 8 syllables per line, and no true iambic pentameter. Regards // paul

Congratulations on your first-place win in the contest! There were quite a few good poems on spring, Paul, but yours stood out through your creative approach that personified spring as a lover with whom a date was broken. Fabulous writing! You have a prize coming to you. Best wishes, Carolyn

yes, the line limit was my biggest problem in finding something to use so I rewrote an older poem and made it shorter!

To be honest, initially I entered a poem with repeated lines, then realized that no such lines were acceptable! Trying to write another poem before the contest filled up was a race against time!
