Yosemite Sam
always stumbled upon a jam.
Each time he would yell ' tarnation.'
Altercations most have caused elation.

the walls hum with voices
of a war no one sees.
the dinner plates rattle
as if asking to be smashed,
and the dog hides under the table,
eyes wide,
waiting for the next explosion.
they are lightning
without rain,
fireworks that never fade.
they yell because the silence
has eaten them alive,
a hunger that no bread can cure.
medications sit on the counter
like unspoken prayers,
but the children won't touch them.
they won’t believe in saints,
in gods, in doctors.
they are raw,
howling,
a choir of torn hearts
singing themselves to pieces.
the parents turn to stone,
old wounds stitched to their faces,
waiting for the storm
to blow itself away.

Face all your setbacks and face them well,
Just mind not what they say let them yell,
Leave them to their shouts,
Leave them with their doubts,
For all you care they can go to hell.

not merely dirty
disgusting
they have hardened and yellowed

Lizard had balloons, presents, and confetti too.
He was turning a great age, wonderful twenty-two.
I have brownies and chicken wings and pizza with flies.
When you come to my party, be sure to yell out “surprise!”

My eyes are yelling sleep!
But it is a Sunday, and a day off, and I do not want to waste it.
We are tired! They yell.
I give in reluctantly, the way a petulant non-compliant angry
Four-year-old who cannot stay awake one more second does.
Struggle to keep my eyes open.
Angry that they betray me.
The dog is thrilled.
Napping is her favorite thing to do, every day of the week.
Her favorite hobby period.
I curl up in a semi-circle.
Wham!
She hits me in the lower back,
Snuggling close enough to
Feel my kidneys.
We are both snoring in seconds.

You yell at me,
Blaming me for things i seem to be,
I try to see things through your perspective,
Because your my relative,
I thought I would understand,
I try not to seem offhand,
You yell at me,
For things that you had to see,
Is this your objective?
To make me feel defective?
To see me cry,
Knowing why?
Doesn't it make you wonder?
What is making me blunder?
Or do you know?
What I happen to stow?
All those terrible memories,
That you left for me to bestow
You yell at me,
One of these days,
I will be ready,
My eyes hardening,
As I tell you no,
I am done suffering,
And wondering,
When it will end,
You yell at me,
I yell back,
Finding my voice,
Knowing it isn't the right choice,
I can't stop myself,
It flies out.
I leave the house,
You stand there speechless,
You yell for me,
But I ignore you,
I keep walking,
No where.
You yell at me,
And I am gone.

Take Me Away
I can no longer see straight
As it walks towards me,
I can't tell is this death?
Will I die or will I just be passed by
This fear is torture
I must leave this area
I am scared so I want to run
My legs won't move
I am still so I must shout
My voice is gone
I am brave and I want to fight
My arms won't raise
Fear is the worst torture of all
How long will I be scared?
At least the pain comes quick when you fall
The anticipation is worse than any physical harm that is feared

what grows from these petri dishes?
when will these hives
with their metal monsters
their deceiving smiles
their artistic like visages
stop breeding,
stop growing,
like a virus?
what of the fertile land they cover,
the resources they consume?
what of their ravenous appetite?
and barely
a forest untouched.

If I could just live for one day
No matter what you do
No matter what you say
If I could spend all that time
Just making it count
Just callin it mine
I wouldn't be so obtuse
I would make it ok
I'd untie my noose
If you could simply understand me
Forget how I look
Cut through what you see
This wouldn't be so sad
If you knew what I was
And how it's cost all I've ever had
If you could know how it felt
To lie every day
To feel my skin melt
Maybe you wouldn't be so unfair
When you stare at my nails
When you laugh at my hair
How do you think you would feel
If I told you who you were?
If I told you what was real?
How could you even understand?
What this all means to me
The empty past i see
All I want is to have a place
Where you love me for me
Where you forget about my face
So if you have to criticize
I don't want your hand
I don't want your advice
And if you want a guide
I'll show you my soul
I'll take you inside
And if you really wanna know
What this all means
I'll just take it slow
Cause I want you to know
I want you to know...

I never yell at my kids. I lean in very close and then whisper.
I've found this method to be more effective and a hell of a lot more scarier.

In the sunken hollow a gray mass
addles
A silhouette of swaying muskets
shadows
Braying horses the silent vigil
rattles
A curdling breeze across feted
expanse prattles
The stilled pageant concludes with
the order, "charge"
From sheltering tree line, a
disheveled mass doth barge
A shrieking, cacophonous chorus
christens the onslaught
Menacing octave wafts;
Union, tidal waves to
distraught
