Tongue Tied in Cliches

Tongue Tied in Clichés: A Blessing in Disguise

A blessing in disguise,
a double-edged sword—
a far cry from peace,
yet all in all,
at the drop of a hat
we reach for a ballpark figure,
beat around the bush,
break new ground,
burn the midnight oil.

By the book we cut to the chase,
play devil’s advocate,
fill the void with food for thought,
start from scratch,
then get cold feet.

Give the green light,
go down in flames,
hit the nail on the head,
find ourselves in over our head,
jump on the bandwagon,
keep something at bay,
leave no stone unturned.

Out of our depth,
past the point of no return,
we read between the lines,
take it with a grain of salt,
see only the tip of the iceberg—
until at last we throw in the towel.

Premium Member artistic priority

What will truly make ART great again, is when people return to the critical realization that it is not about quality, it is about expression, and more importantly, JOY. Don’t be too concerned what others say about your work, whether it’s painting or music or writing or woodworking or cooking, etc, if it brings you enjoyment, then do it to your heart’s content!!

Everything we do and say and make and write, is a little piece of us, and should be treated with the deference and appreciation that we give to one another, and no one knows better than WE do, how our intent compares to the result. If you get critique, take it kindly, but with a grain of salt, and the knowledge that others do not see the world the way you do.

EVERYONE on this planet has a special talent, and not all of those talents are the artistic type, but that savvy was given to you to make the most of. Maybe you’re not the “artistic” type, but you ARE talented, I guarantee you, and I also guarantee that endowment you’re blessed with, whatEVER it may be, is something you enjoy, and it brings others joy in the process.

THAT, my friends, along with love, is what life is all about!

Premium Member A Fathers Immortality

Upon waking up this day, a single tear
Father your eternal immortality
Still proves wise and gracious
I haven’t been misled by popular opinion
Which should be taken with a grain of salt
You showed me how to expose the counterfeits
who foster misperceptions,
Which have shaped our faith
How to think with an open mind, heart, and soul
Father, your every word was a rare gift
A worth guide__
A teardrop of glad remembrance and a
Prayer for your soul

Depression

Depression can make a man like me take
This life with a grain of salt
Waiting for death is all I have left
Knowing everything is all my fault
Carrying that weight every single day
Leads to nothing but a heavy soul
The man gets no rest from thinking about death
Using all the wrong ways to fill the hole
I know in the end, I’ll pay for my sins
Everything tends to come back around
During those times, I was losing my mind
Depression made a man like me drown

Leave It At That

7/31/22

Can't get time back
Regardless if I tip my hat
Going down a different path
I'll leave it at that

No matter if it's been a rotten day
They always got a lot to say
Then towards god they pray
I go my own way and walk away
I overdo it at times I gotta pay
The process is drawn out or occurs andale`

With a quickness
Spreading like a sickness
Always trying to stick their nose in my business
You've no idea, because for you everyday is Christmas
One wrong move, you write me up and give me tickets
Even though you were the only witness
I don't need anyone's forgiveness
Listen, I want to hear the sound of crickets
Own a home and land with a fence made of pickets

Another stupid verbal assault
Trying to make it seem like I'm all at fault
I take it with a grain of salt
Then continue on, such matters can't cause me to halt
As I travel across the asphalt
At night often drinking liquor with or without Malt

He bluffs and she sucks
All these cheap f***s
So surprised when I speak up
It's been ongoing for more than three months

It Wasnt Me

I’ll go on a limb
And say it was him

Oh no you don’t
I swear you won’t

With a grain of salt
Should I accept fault

But it wasn’t me
Just leave me be

You’re both to blame
Feel some shame

Telling Stories Explained

Telling Stories explained

To impart words of wisdom
one would assume you need to be wise,
there's nothing farther from the truth
If skilled at telling lies.

A story not necessarily true
but believed true by the teller,
convincingly told and carefully sold
can be the next best seller.

So take this with a grain of salt
just make things up along the way
and the more you tell the story
the more the truth will decay.

The truth is so objective
everyone makes their own
and what's the real story,
is oftentimes unknown.

Every story can be fiction
if not believed by even one,
for if that one single person,
believes it's overdone
then your factual account or recollection
to them is not worth the ink in print
and your insistence and conviction
will barely make a dint.

Again, just tell the story
repeat it until you believe it to be true
with careful lies and alibis
your readers will accrue.

Then fiction turns to solid facts
as you entertain with pen in hand
and you're spicing up the story
that started off so bland.

Gave My Cat a Tin of Curiosity

This guy didn't waste time hitting me round a hedge
Pole vaulting has its ups and downs
Brian Blessed in costume is that a blessing in disguise
started counting 24 hrs but i called it a day
Went to see the hairdresser at the bend on the road but he was cutting corners
really tired after hitting a bag think i will hit the sack

Not Too Seriously

Take it with a grain of salt,
View something in the result.

Advice From Hephaestus

Did you ever forgive yourself?

But how do you cope with that?
"Okay then, take the answer with a grain of salt...

"What's there to cope with?"
(Wait, does he even have a soul?)
Your mum threw you off Hephie!
"Oh! that wasn't, really, my call."

Yes I know that and I feel
So sorry for you!
"Why?" He sounded more confused
Than I was in my room.

Why! Your mother Heph-
"Yes, my mother, I know.
It was her, I have nothing
To forgive myself for."

...I don't have to forgive myself,
For the things that aren't my fault."

"Neither do you" patting my head he said before he left.

Premium Member Hoodwinking

I'm as honest as the day is long which means
I'm more honest during the longer days of summer
So if I tell you something in the winter
Take it with a grain of salt
There's a good chance I'm hoodwinking you
If you ask me directly, of course I will lie
In the middle of the summertime
I'll be forced to divulge all my past exploits in lurid detail
For I am unable to tell a lie
In the spring and fall it's a fifty-fifty proposition
Maybe I'm lying, maybe I'm not!
Have I totally confused you?
I need to go lie down!

What Are Idioms

You might take this with a grain of salt
Knowing I heard it on the grape vine
Why they let the cat out of the bag
I'd say your guess is as good as mine

They say I tend to sit on the fence,
Off my rocker by not a far cry
That I'm not playing with a full deck
They should let those sleeping dogs lie!

Because there's method to my madness,
And I'm to blame if things go south
So I'm not beating around the bush
You heard it straight from the horses mouth!

Premium Member 1981, In Collaboration With Ricky Nelson

Ricky Nelson, T-shirt, and khaki pants,
Four a.m. check-in, big wigs are my job,
With a grain of salt, 'it's my life I snub,
A chosen degree, and the good lord grants,

He asked what type of room would I give them,
Wife had a t-shirt that dropped to her knees,
"The Bell Tower, our bridal suite, sign please,"
His band doubled-up, as a rule of thumb,

I would learn a year later, they broke up,
At the time, they both were very charming,
And she's sister to actor Mark Harmon,
By the way, that suite was 1k a pop!

Rick and his band would die in a plane crash, (1985)
And his wife of that time died in New Mex. (2018)

Wisdom of the Following List

Fear not the sleeping Llamas (they dream of grass not you)
Fall not into sin (volcanoes would be better)
Save coupons and your soul (in no particular order)
Read books from left to right (the other way leads to confusion)
Use flashlights to find your matches (All light is good)
Move pawn to king knight seven in chess (a queen is at hand on square eight)
Check your spouse for fleas and adulteries (Both are common)
Pet your pets and feed them frequently (sometimes goldfish are hard to stroke)
Forgive them if they forget to swim or your name (They have small brains)
Eat at diners with short names, short menus and shorter memories
Eat at Joe's (the signs and advertisements say so)
Don't walk on the grass or eat it
Don't wake up Llamas (they are serious about sleep and eating greens)
Come to your own conclusions (Leave leaping and jumping to frogs)
Take the wisdom of the list with you with a grain of salt
(The pepper has gone missing)
Keep mysteries in a box (They live better in tight spaces)
Give them room to breath. (They get by with little air)
Don't panic (Panic is for clowns) (Lists are for people who care)

Unpunished

I'm a force to be reckoned with,
And I don't recommend crossing me
the wrong way.
I've been holding in this fire for years,
So I don't set fire to the world around me.
I don't know how much longer I can hold it in.
I don't want to be known
as the criminal in this town.
 The one's who provoke
 never get punished.
It's the one who are pushed
over the edge that
always get blamed and
imprisoned for others actions.
Fools always rush in
where angels are afraid to tread.
Just don't take it with a grain of salt.
We're all hanging on by an invisible thread.
The innocents cannot be unpunished,
If you beat them down until they are as good as dead.
