Travesties Poems

Premium MemberVoices Fall Silent as Long Time Passes

ashes drift through streets
foundations crack into dust
false tongues guide the crowd
we watch as the pillars fall
we're silent heirs to ruin

shouts of protest fade
pleas for change lost in the void
swallowed by neglect
travesties parade as law
complacency rains on guilt

even those prepared
trained to weather storms and fire
find their tools undone
in a tide that won't recede
against headlong climate change

cry for children's sake
their innocence locked in halls
their hope dims and fades
as our shadows fall on them
darkening their fragile plight

worsening within
erosion of soul and will
the mirror grows dim
our humanity watches
complacent letting self fade

where have voices gone
we long for them in passing
we ask but can't sing
we pick flowers to fill graves
we never learn time's passing

where have our blooms gone
onto graves we keep digging—
questions circle back
who is there to sow not weep
who will plant flowers in spring

Premium MemberOn Reparations

Can we ever truly right the wrongs of the past?
Seems to me what was done cannot be undone,
And I am not a proponent of crippling remorse
So, let’s just face facts, as they were, and resolve
To learn from our mistakes, moving steadily on.
Must we pay the price for our ancestors’ follies,
Recalling that reparations will never be enough?
After all, we cannot reach those who were hurt,
We cannot undo their terrible pain and suffering.
I am convinced we must not reward poor excuses
Who wallow in unnecessary self-pity over time,
But reward those who rise above their travesties
Working toward equal rights and responsibilities
For the civil betterment of our inclusive society.

Premium MemberAbecedarian Alliteration

An abecedarian Australian animal activist
Bagged bodacious big bucks
Caustically criticizing crocodiles,
Driving darling dragons
Essentially extinct. Eschewing
Fact, fabricating fanciful fiction,
Grifting gloriously,
He haughtily held hostage
Important, instructive information,
Juxtaposed jaundiced, junk
Kangaroo kills,
Leveling large lizard libel,
Manufacturing marsupial misinformation malevolently.
On other ominous occasions,
Preferring pernicious propaganda,
Quickly, querulously, quashed
Real, rational reports, rather,
Substituted several substantially
Tarnished technical travesties,
Undermining unified understanding.
Very vociferously, viciously
Wrote works without warrant,
Xenophobic xenotypic
yarns, yammering yellow-bellied yawps,
Zombie-like, zealously.

Coming To Term

COMING TO TERM IN THE USA 2022 Laraine Kentridge Lasdon

who are we to talk of women’s rights
or the travesties of cultures of bans
when our Supreme court becomes
a pawn of pandering politics
and we are no better than
them

how many two year olds
must be beaten
left in closets to die
with no Hail Mary’s
to mark their death
 twenty year old mother
 nineteen year old boyfriend
sit in jail for the rest of their lives
  foster children
sleep in offices, under tables
unwanted
and
and

with wanton abandon
the powerful use

every tool they have
to silence sober practitioners
of abortion and education
forcing birth and poverty
on young women pregnant
rape, incest, or ignorant
about their own body

father-father, boyfriend-father
unaware, or not required to care

(as my father-father willfully
controlled me the injustice stings)

wrapped in judicial cloak of cynicism
the Court decamps
intoning platitudes
and buries Roe vs Wade

there is nowhere to turn
the baby is still born

No hymn is sung to praise
The beauty now undone by time;
Where once the lauds and gracious
Prose were flung out, as will be
These travesties of nature's levity.
Then does all beauty fade, thus
Frail her lovely moments pass away
And crumble like the broken vase
The withered rose upon the wilted stem.

Cooler

There is a fine line between visceral hatred and love. What side am I on?
Sweat runs into my eyes mixed with my tears and anger. Angry at myself or at it? Hard to say. I see only in a tint of gray. Regret fills my lungs like the muddy waters of the river in which I float. Do I take a deep breath of water or do I live another day of misery? The choice seems obvious now. Loveless, soulless, I seek only retribution for my travesties. Drown me in the muddy waters. Cool my hair in the morning. Redeem my soul in the early evening. Forget this lifeless life. See you all over there or not. At least I will finally be cooled...

Premium MemberMy Superpower

I have little control
over the world's travesties
I have power
over little more
than my thoughts
my words my actions
so put away that sharp tongue
so as to never sting or slash
best choose to be kind
so as never to regret
the smile not given
the kind word or
compliment not granted
preferring
to love
wholeheartedly
and spread kindness
as best I can

Ss Single and Searching

Deep into the sunflower,
Shirking away in facade.
Alas!
The It in the search for it,
But the constellations know better.
Soon draws in the daily winter;
When the flowers wilt and fall;
As it shivers off the travesties,
To settle up in serene,
Adorning its grey regalia,
Giving It the fickle find.
The moon plays hide and seek,
And the night is It.

Premium MemberYour Inner Child

Listen to your inner voice,
return to childhood and
let those instincts free.
Become a child once more.

See things through their eyes
like unicorns, fairies and elves.
Do not stop and analyse just act
on your gut feeling its seldom wrong.

The more you can let go the freer
you are of modern travesties'.
And can return to a natural way
free from stress of every day life.

The Looking Glass

Marching through the storm
Taking up arms against the night
Erasing sense & losing form
Without sight there is no right

Judging the world from my podium
Sitting up high away from sympathy
I've lost all my empathy
I wrote the book on abysmal insights

Wandering from east to west
Invited into the world as a guest
Visiting without a visa
Reading the works of Tesla

Driving through the universe
Venturing through the galaxy
A requiem was erected to all of man's travesties
Traversing from light to dark & all its spectrums

A specter looking back at me from within
Projecting fears into the mirror
Reflecting truth found within
My reality found within
The mirror of my imperfections.

Premium MemberSorry Scoundrel

My early twenties found me oft' a cad -
          A scoundrel, nonchalant and fancy-free,
So casual of sweet hearts and a tad ...
Too focused on finesse and ecstasy.

I walked a line, precarious and slim,
'Tween gallivanting and my dignity ...
A crave for women, gathered on a whim,
As many rendezvous as I could flee.

I saw romance as something of a feast -
Thus tasting all the treats of life's cuisine ...
Until a broken heart revealed the beast,
And all the travesties I'd come to glean.

One unique damsel made me acquiesce ...
Despite my errors, loved me ... nonetheless.

Spinster

Your lonely years measured
By other people’s celebrations;
You always sat and smiled.
You had your callers,
The oil men, the plumbers,
Big family men
Who humored your weekly salon travesties
While you stifled chuckles
As they crouched and straightened,
Butt-winking through their clothes.
Later, the chuckles you checked echoed bitterly
When the microwave rang you for dinner
And you spotted phantom fingers lurking
On your counter-top,
And grieved for a sooty, rough hand to hold.
Now you sit at your window
Dunking a coffee-bag
Waiting...
Waiting for the Bible man,
Wondering...
Wondering what to wear
To your niece’s wedding;
Composing more lyrics
To your lonely lullaby.

The Old Year the Old Ways a Warning of the Coming Days

31 Dec 2016 9:24 AM

The old year is waning and most are complaining about what a year it has been.
Corrupt politicians over dosed musicians and travesties of the executive pen.

Real men lost in wars while effeminates crying for more of what they did not earn.
Thieves and murders celebrated while humanitarians are arrested behead and burned.

Females wanting to be males and males wanting to be females Evil is called good and good is labeled evil.
The gospel is twisted and made a lie God is called the spaghetti monster in the sky while hell is compared as good and glory given to the devil.

These things were similar in Mosses day and God sent a flood and washed it away and now we have revived it again.
I am sad for society so backward and too blind to see. A fire is coming in its due time, to purge the world of this evil of men.

Witness

I see hell,
I see fire,
I see more than desired.
I see truth,
I see liars,
I see all we've inspired.
I see planets,
I see cages,
I see war for all ages.
I see ants,
I see men,
I see it happen again.
I see hope,
As it falls,
But still captures us all.
We will brawl,
Till we crawl
Against the walls.

I see heroes,
I see cynics,
I see all that they mimic.
I see angels,
I see saints,
I see lives that they taint.
I see Gods
I see Devils,
I see misers as they revel.
I see living,
I see dead,
I see rot on God's good bread,

I see comets,
I see black holes
And sentience on the threshold.
I see prescience
To behold,
I see travesties to be told.
I see life
that is free,
Just past eternity
I see plans,
I see lies,
I see all we despise,
I see jesus as he dies,
And is picked apart by flies.
I see god
In his grave,
I see none of us are safe.

Premium MemberThat This Beauty

Many take her for granted this beauty seen in our skies
Isn't she such a wonder for us she'll never despise

She glows when we are weakened by life's travesties
No matter our human gloom, she's there for us to see

Take a look back to her past, view her strife her life
Being battered by her neighbours, leaving her rife

Look to the scars she bears, whom does she declare
She never ever will, but do we humans really care

History has shown, to her out reach we shall travel
Into her out there black, shall we ever ever unravel

It'll take some years, but eventually we will find
I only hope and pray, that this beauty isn't undermined
