Splendiferous Poems

Premium MemberSomething

“Something,” a compound
word, wondering why,
back in the early days,
I enjoyed it so, until
“serendipity” came along.

The “knock-knock,”
“who’s there?” “Surprise!”
The knockout of my voice,
the showering of my dishes,
the blending of daiquiris
and splendiferous guests.

Then the more potent,
poetic delight of “plenipotentiary,”
the dictionary, the thesaurus -
better than the yellow pages
and Sears Christmas catalog.

No, the catalog was cool!
I miss it - my first babbling;
I wonder what sound
first caught my attention
at my mother’s knee…
It must have been something.

"Every enigmatic environment enlists enlightened emotions" Quote by The Poet

Spectacular silvery spangled, star studded sky, so serene.
Under universal utterances uniquely unabashed, unseen.
Wildest wind wails when weakened, was welcomed warm weather.
Trees towering, trying to triumphantly touch together.
Serendipitous splendor soothes soulful scenes.
Gracefully groomed, growing greens.
Lustrous light looms, lasting like lingering lanterns.
Youthful yellowing, yet yesterday yearns.
Moonbeams meander, mesmerized midst melting moments.
Extraterrestrial elements enlist exponents.
Frenzied fireflies flutter, fulfilling fanciful florescent flashes.
Sparkling, swishing splashes.
Sycamores sway sweetly, so subdued, sounds softly sweep.
Calm clarity closely causes comfort, combinations creep.
Sporadically straying, sadly sets sorrow so steep.

Premium Member ON OUR VACATION IN RIO

The nights near your endearing, deep cocoa skin,
Silently, splendiferous, in this, sensitive , Spring we revel in.

Samba music fingers, paint energetic dancers on the Spring walls,
Lost in the beckoning and hypnotically, loves’s, passionate night call.

You quiet my soul, with your tender, intoxicating, loving tenacity,
And create sweet hours, revelling in our world to poetic capacity!

Old Gooseberry gets in when you let your guard down
Handsome, diabolically friendly, he never shows a frown
Temps you with spirits, pills and elixirs to make you high
Some addicts think he is a splendiferous, wonderful guy.

Splendiferous crystals;
Sparkling jewels of light.
Soft, fragile flakes that fall
Silently from the sky.
Swirling as they tumble
Spiraling to the ground,
Scattered by winter winds.

Premium MemberEbony Skies

Sunlight rises like a phoenix
from the charcoal ashes of Night.
And sets the eastern skies afire,
lit by Dawn's splendiferous light.

Orange, yellow, and tangerine
ink scattered clouds of misty grey.
And a mix of pastel colors
confirms that Sol is on his way.

Soft shades of violet and blue
swiftly replace ebony skies.
And as Night dissolves into Day,
a golden Sun begins to rise.

Shifting shadows retreat from black
when sol's rise chases Night away.
And twinkling stars slowly vanish;
washed away by the light of Day.

Premium MemberSplendiferous Spring

Sweet songbirds chirp, greeting the rising sun
below my bedroom window every Spring.
While their cheery tunes confirm Spring's begun;
green begins coloring in everything.

Crocuses silently push through the ground;
while frozen icicles melt, drip by drip.
The honking of geese fills the sky with sounds
signifying they're on their return trip.

Wildflowers suddenly begin to sprout;
popping from the ground, summoned by sunlight.
Spring seems so splendid; there is little doubt
when Spring colors supersede Winter's white.

I love the scent of Spring's perfumed breezes,
Winter smells sterile once the ground freezes.

Premium MemberPearl of the Orient

Donning splendiferous landscapes stretching for miles,
A culture that aptly prides, in bold, welcoming smiles;
A thriving land of islands~ an archipelago evincing awe,
A resplendence of nature, an exclamation of hurrah.

Sandy beaches embrace realms of pristine coastline,
Harboring lush foliage, embodying sublimity divine,
Of marine life, corals, reveling warmth of idyllic clime,
Reminiscent of paradise, of placidity, stilled in time.

Fun loving, amiable, proud tradition extolling grace,
Quaint, yet modern, is the vibrant vibe of this place;
Of museums, antiques, art galleries, buzzing cafe,
Of hotels, casinos, of famed sunsets on Manila Bay.

Luzon, the Visayas, Mindanao~ gems of the blue sea,
Living in tranquility, projecting utter beauty and glee;
Islands of hospitality, homeland of a privileged few,
A magnificent portrait, upon sea-canvas nature drew.

Philippines~ an acclaimed, lauded, pearl of the Orient,
Rich in diverse culture, her allure citizens augment,
Pulsating rhythms of hearts and souls, worthy of praise;
A treasure preserved, revered since the ancient days.

Quirina and Quiqui Quetzal*
Were a truly splendiferous pair.
They won first prize at Mardi Gras
As if nobody else was there.
This had ruffled a number of feathers
Among some who'd come very far
And spent weeks and months on elaborate costumes
While the Quetzals were "come as you are".
But they'd been down this road before,
And Quiqui had a plan.
He'd arranged to start a brawl or two
So later Quirina could brag
That he really was her "macho man",
Not just a sissy guy in drag.

*Author's note: For some of you more ornithologically challenged P Soupers, the quetzal is a brilliantly plumaged bird of primarily Mexico and Central America.

Love can be such a tricky thing, isn't it?

This thing called love in all its multiple forms:
a mother’s, a partner’s, a spouse’s, a child’s,
a friend's, a pet’s, a stranger’s, a sibling’s love.
And the very incomprehensibly incredible one:
God’s Love, with a capital L, no less!
Does it empower or embitter us?
Is it always such a double-edged sword,
cutting both ways? Or do we wield it thus?
(What’s that? You think love is a curse?)
Love inspires us to be kind, gentle, charitable.
It grants us the ability to transcend our
beastly nature to be the best nurturers.
Love grants eyes the power to gaze into souls,
blesses ears with the faculty to hear lies,
opens the mind to witness miracles.
(Curse it may be, but only to dead hearts.)
Love is our salvation, a precious gift of
Incalculable value that redeems the worst of us.
Love, in all its splendiferous forms, is
a cascade that offers the pure waters of life.
It might be tricky, but I dare say I
would not ever wish to live without
Love.

       Amberfest Ambiance

Ah, the orange-gold, I behold in things,
Such as the amber, in my wedding ring.
Invitation to a classic, zesty brunch.
Heart-pounding for this splendiferous lunch.

Let's begin shall we, with aromatic toast,
Slathered with orange jam and golden,
Hawaiin honey.(Tis the most)
Gratefully, we do have enough money,
To eat oudoors, and the Pacific Coast is a honey.

Oh, my eager taste buds start to roast!
Eggs Benedict with perfect golden orbs!
Having breakfast on the azure Pacific Shore.
How could I ask, for anything more?

The scent of fresh California orange juice,
In an amber goblet, ah, turn it loose!
This is my divine amberfest breakfast.
Divinity~full of color and golden pizazz!.
So very blessed and extraordinarily, first class!

Your splendiferous day is finally complete.
Your grateful heart smiles, with joy replete.

Knowing you survived this day’s travails.
Unecessary, for you to get any hurrrahs and hails.

In your serene bed, beneath a soft quilt, you retire.
Knowing you did your best, and in some hearts, lit a fire

Outside, you observe, the deep onyx skies has eyes.
That love and care for you, ‘tis absolutely no disguise.

You surely are a child of a stupendous, watchful, universe.
Sent to planet earth, to express your vivid truth in verse!

TO WHOM IT MAY CONSTERNATE

I did make a wasp gasp
with my splendiferous doggerel
that not even I sit well
with. & a note came from hell
penned in a tongue alien to me...
only the vile violet violinist
understood such oneiric idiocy...
& said it was emetic
& not truly good nor copacetic.
Even September agrees
such is the golden music
that easily delights the bees
& can make a wasp gasp.

Premium MemberShe Tosses Her Hair Into the Wind

She tosses her hair into the wind with wild abandon and hope.
Her ways wise and wonderful, power tree is as pure as Ivory soap.
I stand in the shadows watching, wondering what she will do next.
Her movements seem spontaneous, but her mind is complex.

She looks so casual, and yet she is always plotting an oak says.
I know this is true, she is my sister, her name is Splendiferous Inez.
I have seen her in action since I was a wee babe, she is always thinking.
Of ways to bring peace and hope to the woods, continually uniting and linking.
