Lamb Brains For Breakfast
Old heads know more,
but can't explore anymore.
Justly, they exploit experience,
adroitly squishing creativity.
Too old to play,
with naivety....

Sea
Waves crash on the shore
salt of the sea
Seagulls singing their ocean song
sand squishing between my toes
Fresh lemonade
could stay in this place forever...

I do not know?
Hot Flash
she stood before
me staring through
me as if i threw
a cup of water
in her face
though clothes
soaked she kept
them on squishing
as she walked bare
footed away
for
even
her
feet
were
hot...

To Be Young
Running in the yard
Splashing in a pool
Squishing mud with toes
Dashing here and there
Playing everywhere.
Dad picked you up
Mom kissed the hurts
Sis hugged your neck
Bub mussed your hair
They loved you much.
What it was
to be young,
Full of life.
No cares,
No strife,
Free....

Eli Elf Loves His Bobcat Pet
Eli snuggled up to his sweet winter snow pet
Squishing Mr. Bobcat as close as he could get
This day is damp said Bob, my fur is all wet
Mama won’t let you in the house though, that is my bet.
We can stay here and snuggle, so don’t you fret.
You are my favorite person, my best friend, my pet....

Deep Comforts
Reading in the bath
Yoga with my cat
Hot tea in an old mug
Tree shadows cast from above
Squishing soil between my toes
Tomatoes warmed from the summer glow
Getting a glimpse of nature dancing
Romancing --
Snowflakes twinkling in the moonlight
Carnal rhythm raw and wavelike...

Don'T
You’re squishing it
Look there underneath you’re sneer
My happiness,
It’s lost
You’re crashing them
With your contempt and disbelief
My dreams,
They’re forgotten
You’re crushing them
The weight of your negativity
My hopes,
They’re shattered
You’re deserting it
My heart,
You don’t want me anymore
It’s broken...

Element of Air
A chill stiff fresh breeze
tousled my hair as it swung
around my eyes blinding me
Walking on the beach
sand squishing between my toes
I wondered at Nature's might!

Tire Marks
Tire marks-
the tires sunk deep on the soft soil
I walked on the raised mound
guiding the grass and dirt
into the tire thread mark
one direction
and then coming back
squishing the soil on the other side
to where it belonged
a few more times
in a few days
the grass will heal the wounds
and nobody will ever know he was here...

What's Bliss
The sun is setting and it paints
the sky a hearty scarlet,
Imagine yourself walking
barefoot along the beach and the
wet sand squishing between your toes,
Close your eyes and listen
to the waves lapping the shore,
Take a deep breath of salty air
and let go of your cares--Ha, this is Bliss!

12 Commas
I saw your name, I started to smile
Turning left now, only two more miles
My toes were wiggling, at the thought of you
Sipping, squishing, tasting your delight
You're disappearing slowly, out of sight
Your name is intoxicating, so is your taste
You're to be sipped, not gulped down in haste
Pulling up, parking, taking out the key
Happy are my lips, hips, and ooh-my tummy...

The Witches of Halloween
Face to face with the witches of Halloween
curse black jellybeans
Zombie doctors, unbeating hearts out of whack
raisins giving back
Mad scientists, green goggles, double helix
rejecting trail mix
Undead bug blasters, squishing out eight-legged lice
No to apple slice
String cheese does not bring
Candy's following
Face to face with the witches of Halloween...
10/30/18...

A Parent's Jam
Written by Gail DeBole
in the 1970s
(Pre-parent status)
I'd like to have more patience.
I really think I can.
I tell myself most readily
While looking for the jam.
The jam was in the kitchen,
A few scant seconds ago.
I take a step to the sink,
Squishing jam between my toes.
I'd like to have more patience.
I really think I can.
I'll be in a better mood
When I can buy more jam....

Stalking Cloud
Stalking Cloud
Coldly did stalking cloud unleash its claw
Rend heaven’s garment with its slashing blade
The flaming sun ingest in gray cloud maw
Exhaling ghostly rind of misty shade,
Reeking havoc on plans made out of straw
Soaking all in thunderous marinade
Till clawing cloud gives way to clearing skies
Topped off by squishing feet and cold mud pies.

Back To Basics
Low tide on muddy flat
Squishing cold between bare toes
Slipslide steps of ever careful balance
Rhythm break of sharper shells
A minefield trip to brown salt water
With sun and stench colluding
To dull the pain of outliving children
A soul re-awakens in the soft slippery
Sinking grip of tidal change
Outward inward upward
There is no end in sight
As space expands
And color runs in light
To follow reason
Forever asking why...

I do not know?
Ian
Who knew that a hurricane named 'Ian' could be
something to fear.
Most Ian's are harmless, perhaps a little dull.
The water is surging in Florida Jacuzzi's.
It's gonna be bad.
It's important to name bad things
with bad sounding names.
Cat 4 monsters should be labeled correctly.
I hope the folks down there are okay,
but I want to re-name Ian
something like :- Gore-squishing-ghastly-gutter-beast,
or maybe Agnes
never liked that gal....

A Fairy Ring
Feeling soft soil squishing between my toes
is but one pleasure my garden provides.
I love how its sweet smells engage my nose,
the sunshine, fresh air, and much more besides.
I've never used chemical pesticides
and welcome nature's critters every spring,
from caterpillars to the birds that sing.
Color draws butterflies to sip nectar,
while wild mushrooms create a fairy ring
encircling my placid pool reflector.

Hugs
There is nothing as good as a hug.
It works better than any known drug
And especially now
When conditions allow
Some emergence from holes we have dug.
For no matter how much we’re on Zoom
A caress from a separate room
Is so different from real
That we really can’t feel
The emotions a squeeze can exhume.
This pandemic’s kept loved ones apart
And I’m grateful that I can now start
Seeing friends face to face
In a squishing embrace
Which unlocks what’s been trapped in my heart....
