Parade Poems

China’s Parade of Victory

Truth is a dagger—painful,
yet healing when it cuts deep.
History does not lie:
the Imperial Japanese Army,
once a beast of discipline and fire,
marched on arrogance,
believing steel could bend the world.

But time betrayed them.
China, unarmed, hungry,
with no advanced weapons,
stood in defiance,
its discipline sharper than any blade.
And when the dust settled,
it was China, scarred yet unbroken,
who rose from the

Premium MemberParade of Antlers

I pump my arms, my legs
through chlorinated fluidity,

hopeful of shaping up,
not shipping out.

up and down, side to side.
sinking weights.

still wet, dash off to my car.
vinyl and towels on the seat.

wouldn’t want to be pulled
over, wearing only a coverup,

but I want
for my shower.

to the top of the hill.
Oh! Deer!

spotted. no two. done.
no three. the fourth

has huge

He said a solemn goodbye to his purple steed,
a trike, now, the only conveyance he'd need,
and there would only be just one other small thing,
a little Red Ryder pulled by a string -
and the wind would whistle through holes in his head
as he rode through the town with his wagon of red.

Birthday Parade

We know the dates of birthdays
Of some presidents, once dead,
Yet this time a parade will tout
A living one, instead.

As tanks roll down the DC streets
And soldiers march in step,
Republicans won’t focus on
The millions spent in prep.

They’ll bow down to their MAGA king
As fireworks explode,
Just like the crowds for Stalin
In his power-hungry mode.

We’re told that

God’s parade

some in life are meant to lead
others to follow
but on special occasions
God has seen fit to set aside one
who will march in life's parade
with baton in one hand
and the clown's hat in the other

Premium MemberIn Your Easter Bonnet

She, in her Easter bonnet
Standing beneath the shade,
Alongside gentlemen in top hats
To view an Easter parade

Church bells ring distantly
Showy, white lilies sway,
Waving to sweet daffodils
On this springtime holiday

Baskets with chocolate rabbits
Jelly beans and colored eggs,
Are carried by happy children
Running by on pudgy legs

A whirl of pastel colors
Meant to delight the eye,
Like

Premium MemberSaint Patrick’s Day Parade

During the great hunger many were forced to roam
They settled in far off lands, that they now call home
But they missed Eire and to connect they found a way
With fellow Irishmen and women on St Patrick’s day.

All over the wide world you’ll find an Irish diaspora
Mainly in the USA , England, Scotland, and Canada
They start

Children of the Parade

Snot nosed, barefoot
Chanting, walk the streets
Spit flies from mouth, food on cheek
Green, ripe, and free
Dirty and unkempt
Unbridled and unmanageable
Wild child

Dolls and toy trucks
Mudpies and hopscotch
Bugs and jump rope
Torn clothes, holes in socks
Scraped knees and mud on shoes
Marching on, they're marching on
They're marching on

Drums rattle, off beat
Out of tune flutes, cowbells and slide whistles
Ringing bent triangles

Parade

Displayed self satisfaction
Thought we shared
A crack in your smile
Who knew you cared
Can't remember the sound of your moan
A parade of lights all alone
This city used to feel like ours

Christian quote: He who mistreats the most unfortunate among us, mistreats me—Jesus

Cruelty On Parade

He enjoys mocking the severely ill and lame
Cruelty unbridled that's his game
The Good Book he'll tout
"Don't dare call me a lout"
How dare he campaign in the glow of His name

Stand next to me, or wait, instead
Sit next to me upon the bed
Grab a blanket over there
One's enough, we both can share
Wrapped up inside, you and I
We'll watch as the parade goes by
Get close, so close, our faces press
Cheek to cheek in soft caress

Now if I want to give a kiss
Should I tell

Premium MemberParade Of Ballyhoo

Lore of second chances,
it will be different;
Mouth filled with broken words
not repaired repeated;
You wound with gentle swords;

Lore of second chances,
new day new beginning;
Then it’s just deja vu;
Megalomaniac
parading ballyhoo;

Lore of second chances,
don’t buy into banter;
Focusing on action
reveals what’s underneath
whitewashed with attraction.

Children's Poems III

These are poems for children and poems about children and their mothers, fathers, grandmother, grandfathers and extended families.

Success
by Michael R. Burch

for Jeremy

We need our children to keep us humble
between toast and marmalade;

there is no time for a ticker-tape parade
before bed, no award, no bright statuette

to be delivered for mending skinned knees,
no wild
