the seahorses grazed in a field undersea
the jellyfish wobbled at the party
the starfish in their constellations went
the clams secretive tight lipped and silent
the hammerhead sharks did the DIY
the clown fish entertained as they swam by
the plankton ruled undersea in their gangs
the octopuses spent too long shaking hands
the crabs on the side their day they spent
the lobsters approached in a pincer movement
the sea urchins loitered dishevelled and poor
while the oysters enjoyed everything and all

Octopuses have a REM-like sleep.
Just like you and I, and dogs!
Their eyes gyrate wildly from side to side.
They twitch and intertwine their eight long legs.
Their suckers glitch the grip.
The colors on their bodies do a disco dance on steroids.
'Tis a cephalopod puppy dream trip.
What do these dreaming octopuses dream about, I wonder?
My dog's REM puppy dreams are very similar.
Their bodies twitch, they wag their tails wildly,
Their paws feign walking and jumping.
They whimper, snore and emit little barking noises.
What do these dreaming dogs dream about, I wonder?
Does this imply octopi and dogs are conscious?
Or even the birds, bees, bugs and bacteria?
Are we truly alone in our consciousness?

“he astringed a vein in the loquacious tongue
- triggered plunger syringe needle and zaz...-
now see how this psychedelia is fleeting
and the silent world that in rainbows dissolves”
when and if you wanted to hide
the stings or dreams were like this
[this being one of other inapparent ways
to inoculate narcotics]
(people actually don't know
the paths of a map if they don't walk it)
people who are absent from themselves
lost by electronic platforms
inept and inania
ignore their core
because the organism stretches
as if all the members were
octopuses tentacular stems
but the world today is disenchantment
we are nanotragedy in microcosm
peddlers prostrate on ancestral rocks
mere distracted reptiles
disguised
dissolute
dysmorphic
dysphoric
dyslexics
distant.

Millions of merry mischievous mice made marmalade mincemeat for miles
Nineteen neckties snagged nimble necessary notetakers’ smiles
Outrageous ostentatious octopuses ogled ordinary octogens.
Private praying piranhas provided persnickety pieces of puns.
Querulous quails qualified quite quietly with quality quizzes.
Renegade ridiculous roosters readily rejected revealing robin's kisses.

Lovesick Ollie Octopus
was feeling so terribly sad
He burst into floods of tears
and sobbed to his grandad
Grandad said now Ollie
will you please stop crying
The ocean is salty enough
that fact there’s no denying
Ollie begged grandad’s advice
he said Ollie just listen to me
You’ve got more than one heart
in fact you’re blessed with three
You’ve got eight long tentacles
which can act as loving arms
But all the female octopuses
are still oblivious to your charms
Grandad scratched his head
and said now listen sonny
You need to charm the ladies
with jokes - so make them funny
And if you get them laughing
as sure as sure can be
One's bound to fall in love with you
buy a joke book and just see
So Ollie purchased a joke book
and learned lots of fishy puns
But when he tried to use this line
about the ‘Codfather’, his date runs!
So Ollie joined an inter-net dating site
one called ‘plenty more fish in the sea’
He met a lonely octopus called Olivia
they’re now engaged and are truly happy
Thanks to Harlequin for the inspiration xx

Down under the sea it's frolic time free.
Fiddler crabs play jigs, lolling, lively lilts.
Cockles flap up to clang their symbols with glee.
Angelfish, halos askew, sing in kilts.
Octopuses play jazz in harmony.
Shrimps a dancing, rocking attune on stilts.
Anemones tentacles wave in surge,
as tide and current roll rhythms and submerge.

There's an Island I know which is surrounded
by a deep, blue ocean,
filled with mermaids, Lochness monsters,
giant octopuses, and dolphins
that can talk!
Within the Island, we have folks of all kind,
who have met somehow through time....
Genghis Khan is an architect;
he's doing something different and peaceful,
rather than attacking his fellow Islanders.
Cleopatra is a great chef,
making all kinds of sea delicacies
the Nile will never know about.
Darwin is still an archaeologist;
he has dry bones hidden in his research lab;
he's convinced some Islanders may have
vampire genes in them!
Fishermen love Elvis. He sings so well
the fish jump into the nets in their hundreds.
"No Elvis, No Fishing!" is their motto.
A great number of electric eels are missing,
and no Islander knows why....
Tesla is secretly making electricity from marine
life without a Wildlife Warrant.
Yes, the Island is full of strange people and things
which seem normal and usual to them.
I always carry the Island with me,
like the mythical Giant Turtle.
The Island is in my thoughts....

Flying the California Coast
My California coastline
A song of endlessly repeating peaks
Singing verses of silence
Whispering unknown refrains
Mossy sand and stone
Thinly veiled and misted
Striated curves
Etched in stony hardness
The brain's soft folds
Hide truths unknown
Organic, orgasmic, orchestral
A geology of the heavens
Roads who wander through villages
Plopped within nature's stomach
Mushroom-like fungi pushing through
Like octopuses
They tangle and detangle
Criss-cross and mingle
Crystalline shards of water
Break upon the plate’s edges
Fields of blue finger the horizon
Interwoven with green and aqua lily pads
Singing the universe's eternal chorus
Endlessly the same yet always different
As if the granite domes that fracture the skies
Might scatter into grains of sand
Proving again the alchemy of God's creation

“Hello, sweetie, what’s your name?
Would you like some lollies?
Or my huge brown sugar cane?
Such a nice little girl!
Who’s your daddy
talking to?
What is he doing leaving you to play with yourself?
Are you scared?
Sad?
Lonely?
It’s alright, honey, you’ve got me.
I’ll ride you
to the top of those rainbow hills
where pink unicorns and flying octopuses live.
I’ll take you
where the stars align, and the sky is velvet with glamour.
All my care is you and all my pleasure yours.
Hands,
Put yours in mine
I will show you the world.”
“Sir, you promised me wonders
Yet I’ve felt nothing but pain.
Please send me back home to my family
where we first began.”
“If life were that simple, I wouldn’t have needed you
Should’ve known better than talking to strangers
Oh now you do!
Did it never occur to you that all is just a silly game?
The one that loses is also the one who gained.
Next
to you I lied.
I filled you
with sweet words, and finally made you come.
You’re my one in many conquests,
I your priceless lesson.
Now I’ll make you scream till you pass out,
still no-one will hear your cries.
I might as well kill you.
I might as well die!”

Now where does one start to write
To find the courage he has to pluck
And write a poem for a contest
It's all about things that suck
Out there, there are so many places
Where this word can always be used
There are octopuses in our seas
And their suckers are used so true
Even in the medical world
They use leeches to reduce blood swelling
Their active anticoagulant
Is a marvel in their telling
There are women of ill repute
Nothing like sucking on a sweet
A hard neck never deters them
Vampire bats do it to eat
There are others in the animal world
Yes, limpets when they grip their locked
And back to the ladies and ********
Yes the sweetie I meant was rock
Then there are the ones who are gullible
Like a vacuum they become sucked in
There is nothing wrong with the word suck
Using it, is never a sin

It was the second Saturday of the month
In the afternoon, before lunch, we made love
It has become our ceremonial sacrament.
I entered her, and I thought,
Does she feel anything?
Beyond my curiosity, it was nice
An out of body experience
Propelling forward
Drawing back
Impaling her like
A surgeon engraves a patient
Making his mark
Just as I made mine.
So many Saturdays
Stealing the purity from
The marriage bed
Attempting to not make evidence
I mounted her
straddling her thighs
Looking at the family photo above the bed
Her horizontal skin adhering to mine
It is odd that I felt this way for her
As I laid on top of her
Ears rubbing
Necks caressing
Bodies uniquely intertwining
like octopuses
fighting over the same boat
We had to stop.
As I quietly left, tucking her under the covers
Leaving my forty-six dollars and fifty-eight cents
On the kitchen counter
for my services and
fresh box of condoms,
Placing the cum filled contraceptive
in her husbands slippers
Knowing he comes home from work tired;
hopefully as tired as I made his wife.
