my eyes tried to tell you
golden and round the setting sun peeks
over sloping mountaintops
while cobalt shadows inch into the rust-brown crevices
like a silent blanket smothering the light of day
the moon will be full
or so they say on the six o’clock weather report
there is no sign of rain until the clouds reappear
and the ring around the moon squeezes harder
you wanted to see the rising moon after sunset
and i laid both at your feet
while watching your wide-eyed innocence
as if the circus tent was filled with elephants
it was the only show in town
until i hugged you just before you cried
and we talked all through the rising of the moon
about old songs and dead poets
i searched for words to comfort you
but it was darker than the moon could illumine
and my words were thin as tin foil
though my eyes tried to tell you
tolbert

To The Mountaintops where dreams are Born
where Higher Powers and Ideals Birth Forth,
where Raging Winds Dance to the Great Dance Of Life
and in that Moment, you know that you're Alive,
and the Rivers of Salvation Serenade the Soul
For you have arrived, Up The High Road

Early morning seedlings
The thoughts of a new day
Sprout from my mind
And travel up your way
In northern Italy
By train, by plane, by mail,
By digital rails
My spirit to you sails
And my heart for you prevails
Completely unveiled
Forever in the gale
That ebbs and flows aloft
These alpine mountaintops

Mountaintops rise…
to blot out the sun’s glare
to emulate a flight into the stars.
Lovers who risk the greatest of heights
seize the horizon, revealing beauty
under circling clouds…
or smolder in rage to melt into a foggy night.
The summit conceals valleys where passions
ignite, then stifle the anticipation of scarlet skies…
You ask how I feel…faint from vapors,
faint from altitude.
Never did you promise to climb the mountains together,
to lift the veil, exposing morning’s transparency.
If only, you would…the mountains may capture us,
Love may take hold.
The fire may flame in a lingering glow.
If only, If only you would disclose your burning secrets
and return from the brink of suffocation, despair…
If only, If only…
love could heal, breathe, thrive…
Mountaintops may rise again.

Oh glorious one
I am here above this place
where I am embraced.
So high I can touch the sky
breathless vision for these eyes.
Mountain valleys
Spread like the seas
to the top of the trees.
I feel the breeze.
Upon my face
I am here above this hemisphere.
So mighty, so free
as far ,as I can see.
You will always soar in my heart
never to part.
Raining down on me from the heaven’s above
Your divine beauty
your love.
Forever this vision will be
so etched in my mind.
Though I may not have traveled this far
I am guided by a star
Who’s strength has lifted me afar.
