Menopause
Why am I always hot?
My emotions jump
like a TV remote,
changing channels
without rhyme or reason.
She stops—
asks the question:
Who is that woman
staring back at me?
Unknown, yet still familiar.
Her weary eyes
return my gaze.
She wears a silver crown,
resting proudly
upon her head.
Her changing waist
gradually appears,
as a few more pounds
begin to grace her middle,
almost unnoticed.
Wrinkles crease my face,
mapping the journey
of a life well-lived,
and adventures yet to come.
Why the menopausal tent?
The tiredness make you want to run away to the hills with a tent
The hot flushes make you want to run away without the tent
The cold flushes make you want to run away with 3 sleeping bags and the tent
The weight gain make you want to run away to the hills wearing the tent
The anxiety makes you want to run away to the hills hiding in the tent
The paranoia makes you want to stay in the tent
The depression makes you want to stay in the tent forever
The social anxiety makes you want to stay in the tent in the living room
The hills are too far away!
There once was a lady name Karen
Delighted her womb was barren
Menopause is a treat
Except for the heat
And pursuit of a creep named Baron
I haven't been late for a long time,
Back when I was 27 or so,
It's always been on time.
I'm 49 now and it's been three weeks, nothing.
Has my time of being on time come to an end?
It's likely an age thing.
I still get it at 49, maybe not as much but I get it.
What if it's not my age?
I ordered something, it arrives tomorrow.
At least something will arrive, on my doorstep.
It says first relief is best at wake up,
I think, change my life, no more killing it, be quaint, stay like that,
Like a new day, a good start, with first relief.
To be sure.
After the damage, it was quaint, it'll never happen they said,
One in four is how quaint life is.
It could be my clock has broken.
What will become of me?
Back to killing it, til the last moment?
Life would be quaint,
LIfe would be timeless,
Like the start of a new moment, a new day, a new face to meet.
Life.
Body.
Age.
Breed.
Where are my words, my inner most thoughts?
Where have they gone to? Why are they caught?
I'm battling a brain fog that's making me blind,
Living each day, with an indifferent mind.
Where are my phrases, poetical lines?
Metaphors, imagery and such kinds?
Reactions, opinions, all buried deep
Imagination gone to sleep.
Where is my rhythm, words working with rhyme?
Where have they gone to for such a long time?
Has mental clarity gone for a walk
And abandoned me and my inner most thoughts?
Goodbye youth and your charm.
I much prefer my hard-earned wisdom.
Rather do without the menopause.

My brain is fried like eggs hot flashes
Equally I get cold not so passive
Nothing really I can’t handle nope
Onyx ceiling fan always blows so
Pushing my buttons not as hard
Ambition to play piano discard
Unanimously I feel more free
Simply because I no longer bleed
Everyday I choose to be happy
I’m happy inside with applause
Merrily close to menopause
Even if I get warm like sun
I’m so happy thinking soon it’ll be done
No more killer cranberry cramps
No more pressing pads like stamps
No more birth control pills
No more nausea and feeling ill
So excited about the freeing of mind
From worry of planting babies times
That’s all over after menopause completes
Like a four leaf clover I am happy it’s nearing
Hot then cold cold then hot
Peri menopause is that all you got
Frying my ovaries sunny side up
Serve them with cheese to fertile love
I get frisky then change my mind
I’m like whisky or unnamed wine
Not too ripe nor too young on vine
Still a bit spicy for red valentine
Looking inside I’m more mature
I’ve learn to glide past pride’s manure
Settling into my middle amethyst age
Life plays fiddle am I set in my ways
Oh my goodness never had time before
To think so much and be self absorbed
I find myself feeling like an island moon
Not at all sad to watch night flowers bloom
I try to be an ear for those needing cheer
Reminded of my days I shed teal tears
I love people but I can’t stay close
For my empathetic brain would burn and roast
I’d take on too much of their burden
Feel too much of their hurt and
Unless I can refresh and start anew
Would be depressed stuck like glue
Saved by music and purple poetry
Happiest to use it as turquoise therapy
I am a tree with leaves turning
Embracing cool breeze still learning
Looking forward to the next chapter
May it be filled with more of life’s laughter
I invented a smile, when the water broke
beneath the pain of labour, joy found a hold
A gift, dearly worthy more than silver and gold
I dreamt a variation of futures with colour
Painting soft strokes on the canvas of prospects
A distant future, seen through a microscopic scope of preconceived aspirations
My doctor, my lawyer, my teacher, such exuberant expectations
Alas! just a few moons, earth recalls to be one with its element
Why give?, to only take
Why build?, if only to break
Why chance a remake?, just to reclaim
One, two, three, four
A roll call of my seeds, no more.
Following in the footsteps of a life I wish I had
To be somewhere
To be someone
To mean something
To someone
Following the mantra of a woman in despair
Don't be alone
Don't stay too long
Don't get to care
Don't hold on
But each day that brushes past me stops briefly
just for a moment, to wipe a tear from my cheek and softly
Say "here I am and here you are"
We won't get far without each other
From one step to bridge another
Space in time
We're in this together
Don't give up
Don't give in
Hold on.
It's only October but I'm in despair
So I'm writing to old St Nick
My feet are up no care for my hair
In bedroom feeling quite sea sick
I know I'm very blessed today
Even if it's normal pink pain
Years roll on like a test of faith
I STILL bleed like I'm cutting vein.
I have to ask dear Santa Clause
To deliver me one thing early
Take me into menopause
I will showcase a smile so pearly.
No more super bad headaches
No more needs for tampon, pad
No more favorite things ruined, great
No more making him a dad.
I see dark light in the sun
I will kick you in the boll#cks if you say ‘hey hun’
I don’t know, so don’t fu#king ask!
My body seems to be in several parts
Emotionally I’m an exploding star
Don’t you dare tell me how you are
I feel mad, I feel insane!
Don’t push me or I will maim!
I can’t feel calm I can’t feel still!
This is more, so much more than being ill!!
You’re a man, you’ll never understand!
My body’s changing and it’s affecting my mind.
This is not like you say a pause-from-men!
Your a man, if this happened to you… there’d be a vaccine, just like the flu!
I wish to speak for the cause of women now in menopause.
I once heard a man joke or may be it was just a poke.
What really does this stage cause?
Do men now look but yet they pause?
I went thru it so long ago.
It's just a natural ebb and flow.
It causes some changes quite unknown.
I think perhaps my whore did moan.
I never went on hrt's, just let it happen naturally.
I had no rages, no extra fire.
My girth grew wider, my skin grew drier.
I think perhaps that God must jest as suddenly I got my breasts.
It keeps them looking wouldn't you know and saves me from
seeing what happened below.
Menopause uggg
Adam was given work for his sin
Eve was given the privilege to produce kin
Never once was menopause mentioned
Who created this invention?
They say get an ablation, it’s the best thing since apple pie
You’ll stop bleeding and you don’t have to try
What they don’t tell you is, it doesn’t always work
But heck, the no cramping is a perk!!
Whatever!! It threw me right into the change
My life seems a little nuts in exchange
My kids think I’m lazy but in actuality I’m a lot crazy
I don’t sleep, and I stay wide awake
My moods are all over so the niceness is all fake
I wake in a pool of sweat
Only to later freeze, throw me the net !!
Oh the hot flashes are real
It’s great for sex appeal
The man says you must be hot for me
I just roll over and say no, I gotta pee
Weight gain is going at turbo speed
Chocolate is the number one need.
I just want to be left alone and not bothered
Give me peace and I’ll be honored
Don’t wish for periods to end
You’ll never be right again my friend.
