Villanelle of a Metal Queen (c) 2025 by Russ Dodson
I just don't know where else to start
to tell you of this love of mine
she is the beating of my heart
these feelings that I must decline
I just don't know where else to start
the memories both sweet and tart
hold feelings that I would enshrine
she is the beating of my heart
I wonder can I play that part
to make these treasures glow and shine
I just don't know where else to start
so soon again she must depart
to let her skills and soul entwine
She is the beating of my heart
She is a rockstar, and a large part
of the sound she helped refine
I just don't know where else to start
She is the beating of my heart

At first Chaos became from void borne,
And it stirred the primordial mass,
Before Earth or the Sea or the Sky,
Had a reason to moan or comply,
Then did emerge Ananke above,
Who did give a primordial shove,
Become inevitable to change,
So, the Earth and the Sky be arranged,
And then father time emerged from muss,
Fair Ananke said that there is much to discuss,
God of fate and of time did combine,
Chaos ordered by gods they enshrine,
So, then chaos began his decent,
Because Titan-gods began ascent.

~Running~ death steps behind ~ don't stop to tell how close.
Swallowing a clump of cacti. Throat skewers.
Aubergine blood clots. Cough, life's wick smaller.
Struggle effective so long ago, like swinging axes,
which kerf felled the tall tree and brought the timberwolves sorrows?
Can't celebrate on broken lips ~nihilistic providence~
the cancer of Hope eating body as it canonizes soul.
Roasting in this blue basilisk without a cloud over Hell,
lassoed by titian sands, shall our desert enshrine martyrs' bones?

the warmth in the eyes
is how the mountain outlines
left in me, unspoken
by sunsets
by the ghosts of what never happened
the echoes measured the distance
still not having found a form, they wander
just like you and me
through our valleys
the saddened silence in me
I'll enshrine as an aftertaste
of the grape sun
look at who you are now, sweetheart
desperately enfolding me
with the warmth of the land of the Upper Rhine

Epochal courses a tamed countryside,
Spectacle sparkles glowing trees and boughs,
Pedestal weights and measures counter slide,
Sensible enshrine flexible reigned bows.
A sentinel taps chords and ivories,
The typical lose blues and notes the muse,
The miracle resonates mute carries,
A mythical being awaits its dues.
As Bach spirited his classical piece,
Some brought heart and soul, yet their ears came first,
Has God Heaven sent his blesseth song sheets,
Glass box reveals harmonic sharp verses.
Gentle-deft barters simply and ables,
Treble Clef and all the rest, well arranged,
Level weft swaps light, keyboard, and pedals,
Special, left Bach's masterful skills remained,

Hear ye all, henceforth, Let it be proclaimed,
the first five books are synchronously known
as The Pentateuch. Leading faiths acclaimed
to be Christian and Jewish drawn from stone.
Claimed author, by and large, flight stareway
to wings and hauls swarthy locked dominion.
Greek pente five teuchos book, or crock-clay
to bear volume. Congruence brand common.
Transcend sanctioned, chosen by the divine,
retrieve and set free, quagmire pre-breakout

Moses. Collective's command role, no doubt.

Deuteronomy, *****Mosheh,***** Exodus.

In the eyes of the watcher
Forever enshrine.

Raised up gooseflesh dipped in metal,
a shiver runs right down my spine;
Every emotion they enshrine,
somehow the scream helps me settle;
Please hit that double bass pedal,
I’ll throw you a devil horn sign;
Raised up gooseflesh;
They view me as the jezebel,
a black fishnet flavored outline;
With a head bang everything’s fine,
healing factor with no equal;
Raised up gooseflesh.

Genuineness, in a spirit, just glows like a diamond, shining and divine.
Arrogance, to be above the rest, brings to life, absolutely no sunshine
It is not your poetic prowess, that makes you seem so sublime..
Tis your humility, your honoring of another, which your words, enshrine!

Silence like a bird without song
Lost rays of heat when day was long
Cool breeze of seasons gone
Past words of love that go amiss
Romantic days so full of bliss
Promises are long gone
Lifetime of love that seemed fleeting
Flames of passion now retreating
Years that have come and gone
Memories just left to enshrine
When love was once so truly mine
All that before - for he is gone!

Midst orchids, like jasmine vine,
I see you my valentine!
In each nook of my heart's shrine,
I see you my valentine...!
Each time when things go so fine,
I see you my valentine!
Though when things are not in line,
I see you my valentine...!
When in me for me I pine,
I see you my valentine!
Within my skin of new wine,
I see you my valentine...!
When any two things well twine,
I see you my valentine!
When from heavens there's some sign,
I see you my valentine...!
When I, within, well align,
I see you my valentine!
Even when things aren't benign,
I see you my valentine...!
When good and bad well combine,
I see you my valentine!
When troubles wry webs design,
I see you my valentine...!
When love in me does enshrine,
I see you my valentine!
In each grim code and guideline,
I see you my valentine...!
As the greatest, the divine,
I see you my valentine!
As you’re in heavens so fine,
I see you my valentine...!!!

What a fine party, we’ll swim in the brine
Let’s invite Mr. Kosher Dill and Mrs. Gherkin,
I’m sure we’ll make memories to enshrine
If Mr. Sweet wears his favorite wool firkin!
We must invite the Bread-and-Butter twins,
Mr. Crinkle Chips must surely be on our list
Refrigerator pickles with a Vlasic label wins
Prizes we shall offer, Miss Lime will insist.
For refreshments we can serve Mr. Kool-Aids
Since nobody will think of them as a pickle
If they aren’t in a jar and are home-made,
Our pickle party will be fun in the shade!

Let's just emote the dine!
Far to the North, we increase the enshrine,
send our tails to the features-
Whale away with convenience,
And all the while-
No one clocks the mile~
Our time was the picture,
every slogan here today pleases teachers...
Endemic, like what we wanted supplanted eases creature...

Let your godly light, sweet Jesus, into our souls’ crib to shine
Bless our hearts, divine infant, your love, forever to enshrine!

Galileo saw his planets –
but women were the first
to know of true miracle:
that new heartbeat; the
motion of life within, before
without. Oh, science can,
speaking of men, brute
strength define – and religion,
speaking of men, head of
household enshrine: but
God choose woman, to
conceive and bear – giving
man such mortal responsibility
was not something He
would dare....
