Time's Timeless Flaws

Time does not celebrate
Nor sunrise play kazoo
The folly of the “New Year”
Belongs to me and you

The orbiting of Jupiter
The gleaming Milky Way
Know that being where you are
Don’t mean that’s where you’ll stay

For geese will cut the sky with V’s
And bears retreat to slumber
While we are left to pondering
The days we try to number

For time is but a monitor
Of movements without cause
And we the counters of the days
Enshrine time’s timeless flaws

(the “New Year” Belongs to me and you). So true. Each day holds a choice, and it's up to each individual to make the right one. Live and learn, as the saying goes. Many wonderful blessings to you, John. Congratulations on Poem of the Day. : ) Hugs, Brandy

Hello John, Congrats on POTD! this is such a graceful, thought-provoking piece on how little “New Year” really has to do with time itself. The geese, the bears, and that final insight about us “enshrining time’s timeless flaws” make the poem linger long after reading. Winter Blessings, John, Daniel

Jupiter, geese, and bears move on without a fuss, “While we are left to pondering / The days we try to number.” A contrast both humbling and comforting. Congratulations on Poem of the Day, John.

haha, please seem to like to count and measure all things, which I guess, is kind of arbitrary...you got me thinking here...uhoh.

it is my mantra "that it is the nature of the poet to provoke...not to explain". Which is good when asked.."what does that poem mean" I can reply "I know what it meant to me when I wrote it and have no idea what it meant to you when you read it"...and so the game continues.
