Premium Member Crystalline Benign Waka

with tit-for-tat,
we met for fierce chit-chat-
tête-à-tête, fingers fought
pat-a-pat, rat-a-tat,
with drum roll dice

Silent say so

The drum roll
beats out control
in a game
of warped reframe.
On a coiling balustrade
plays meister masquerade
to craft the will
at bellowed drill.
Docile rule
disarms to fool.
With artful ruse
the vapid lose.

Premium Member DRUM ROLL PLEASE

Steady beat
Orchestra plays
Trumpet sounds
A Soldier goes to war, but might not come back
Every sunrise and sunset
Every foot stepping march moving in courage
Every salute being an honor
Symbolic nature
Eye on individual military uniform
Thank you for your service
Echoes of War in sacrifice
The thought of devastation
Ashes that rise with a darkened shade
Front and center made by a Soldier
Purple Heart reminder
Commitment
Mission Control
The Soldier taking whole
The Battlefield
Point of circumstance
Situation at hand
Ammunition response
Music extending in the distance
A soldier’s life cut short in an instance
The aftermath
A final salute and departure
Every effort that was made
Fulfillment of service
Drum roll honor
Salute

Premium Member It's All Up in the Air

I'm juggling confetti balloons,
Floating a wayward, up in the air,
Falling wherever, when they will,
Begging my cares to be ever still.

I’m the ringmaster of chaos.
Rid'n a tightrope chair.
Poised on tippy-toe, piqué.
About to lose an arm 'n leg.

My heart beats a drum roll,
To dare the cast-of-die fanfare,
To begin before its begun,
Before I've got the hang of
Juggling these bobbling balloons.

I’m dancing with gravity’s strings.
I've lost my weightless things.
They've fallen all around my wings.
With my hopes slip-sliding away,
like confetti spaghetti, al denté.

I dived into the cauldron of magic potion and... Poetry Contest
Anoucheka Gangabissoon

I dived into the cauldron of magic potion
in hubby's best interest
... and, drum roll, mine also
You see, well there's nothing to see
And that's the point
... for this point of contention
only touches the surface
Where his plumbing could use some work
... sigh ... a lot of work
We tried all the gimmicks
... and unfortunately
All the gimmicks laughed at us
We tried the blues, greens, and lotions
And his rowboat remains docked
… In the parting seas
With eagerness, we look at the cauldron
For some magic
Something … like something to hold onto
A rabbit's foot ... hum that might work
Even a lifeboat … only for me
So cauldron what say you
You have a bone to pick … ha, ha

It's Christmas in Hawaii tomorrow
And the blue skies be bright with a rainbow
Santa gets in a grass skirt
And a red Aloha shirt
He makes his way from each home's patio

He'll island hop a surfboard and skateboard
And path his gifts free of all disaccord
Perhaps stop at a luau
And devour some native chow
Santa's Hawaii trip was a reward

When Santa returned home to the North Pole
His starved reindeer met him with a drum roll
To each of his dears a dish
... Hawaiian poi and fish
His trip sans charcoal and snow leis role

Open Mic

It was open mic nite
or maybe ladies night
no matter, wasn’t my scene
so I ordered a beer and took
my seat

The show was amatuer night
for sure
everyone laughed
drum roll
curtains

left my glass with the waitress
and my tip
caught a guy out in the front lot
hocking CD’s at ten bucks a pop

says hes a musician, I should hear his stuff
its gangster rap
ten spot later
blazed down the road

not my scene
but I take
my seat

Premium Member I will not write a poem today

I will not write a poem today
I won’t – I won’t – I won’t
I’ll defy the metered merriment
Declare the thymes – all crimes
My challenge to the metaphor
An inky gauntlet on the floor

I wlll count no syllables
As I ride the “silly” bus
Nor sound the drum roll of
Repetitive alliteration
For words, like pizza slices
Are the best of poetry’s devises

And yet, it seems, a single phrase
Emerges from the dark through greys
Of lifting fog and dancing haze
Revealing fields where poets graze

I will not write a poem today
The poem will write itself…

Premium Member OH APRIL

Oh April
I hear you tapping
Tapping on sweet Spring’s back door
Running through the streets after dark
Undisciplined, unchaperoned
Chattering in a fledgling nest
Peeking from behind softened soil
Basking in a sunrise drum roll
I hear nature whisper
OH! APRIL

Premium Member A BLACKPOOL TRAM

A distant mumble, a muffled drum roll.
Seconds on, come the serious decibels.
Heavy rumbling with sharp percussions.
Squeal of the steel; wheel scraping on the rail.
Metal clatter loudens then dies to silence.
Spent fares alight and new fares climb aboard.

Ting ting. The cream and green is off again,
Above it, brief flashes of lightning blue
As straying volts are lost to salty air.
Soon far off the rumbling fading away.

Premium Member Autumn's Changing Colors

Autumn's changing colors beckon me,
as I follow a spunky squirrel scampering into the woods.
Nature welcomes me as an old friend
that hadn't visited in a long while;
triggering a release of endorphins that fuel my smile.

My excursion gets noted by a jaunty woodpecker;
tapping out a distant drum roll, as I navigate
through a shifting sea of crisp, crunchy leaves, obscuring the trail.
The air feels nippy, chilled by a brisk breeze,
tickling scarlet, crimson, and cerise leaves;
till they laugh and fall from the trees.

A chatty chipmunk scolds me
as I trespass through its territory, paying it no heed.
And I smell the subtle, spicy scent of earth and decay
while I wander through Fall's tapestry of color,
woven with threads of yellow, amber, orange, and vermilion.

Autumn's beauty holds the power to heal the soul;
and Mother Nature is its custodian.

Premium Member Ancient River Passing Song

Ancient river, passing song
always here forever gone
rippled by flirtatious winds
disappearing round its bends.

Crooked fingers drawing lines
tributaries, twisted tines
counting coup on drum roll stones
ancient rivers heading home.
