Bittersweet Poems

Premium MemberWeighing Up Bittersweet Goodbyes

Goodbye cuts the air
with an odd, misshapen lance-
too sharp to swallow
it lingers on ragged breath
it's aftertaste scalds the soul

It feeds like a beast
clawing at the heart's locked gate
demanding more tears
its anger never subsides
its hunger never sated

Yet inside the wound
a new dawn begins to break
away from parting
sweetening bitter sorrows
with a palatable sauce

Goodbye has a seed,
to be

Midway Psalm

The Ferris wheel, a spoked and sputtering crown,
Pinned back the velvet dark. We paid our fee
In crumpled bills, bought passage to the town
Where gravity forgot to work its shift for me.
Neon stuttered sermons: "Try Your Luck!"
"See Freaks! Win Love!" The calliope’s thick breath,
A sticky-sweet confection, made us drunk
On promises spun sugar-brittle, sweet as death.

We traded

Premium MemberThose We love

Those we love don't go away,
they walk beside us everyday.
Their murmurs, soft, in tree leaf whisper
defrosts my heart that did grow crisper

with grief that stained inside and out
when I existed with my doubt
that vanished voices of yesteryear
would come alive and stir the atmosphere.

Breezy hands, they touch my shoulder,
rustling lilac plumes and growing bolder—
as shaking

I Miss The Crab Apple Orchard, And Pretending To Be A Knight

Life has an odd habit
of making you miss
old street curbs and
stop signs.

The street I miss
the most, though,
has to be the cross
street between the
crab apple orchard
and my friend
Jacksons
house.

Something about that
place felt infinite. And
something about sometimes
friends feels greater than
sometimes.

Would I go

All Of The Little Things Our Little Brains Remember For A Short Little While

Isn’t it odd?
All of the little things
that remain in our
little brains?

One day, you’ll
be walking down the
street, just minding your
own business, when suddenly
you’ll stop.

A sight,
A sound,
A scent,
A memory,

Something you have
never seen, heard, smelt,
or even experienced before
will catch your incomplete attention
so completely.

And send you to
the most magical of
places.

Something from your
childhood,

Something from the
small town you drove through
last autumn.

Something

We Were Almost Always

There was a time
your name felt like a beginning—
a gentle unfolding of everything soft
in a world that had grown too loud.

You weren’t just someone I loved.
You were a season.
A chapter where the pages turned slower
just to make it last.

We were never chaos,
never fire.
We were rain on windows,
late-night playlists,
hands brushing in silence.
Almosts wrapped in always.
Goodbyes hidden

Glasswing

She flutters on silence,
a creature stitched from light and ache--
too fragile to stay,
too fierce to fall.
He never saw the cracks
until she flew through them.

The Bittersweet Paradox

On sleepless nights, down winter's road,
A lonely knight in silence strode.
He raised his drink, a golden hue,
And bellowed deep, as sorrow grew.

A sudden quake—his soul it stirred,
And through the haze, strange voices heard.
He counted souls with trembling hand,
Each one like grains of dying sand.

The night grew cold, the stars grew dim,
No cheer nor warmth remained

A Bittersweet Love

From shore to shore
Two lovers and a world apart
From shore to shore
They yearn, they long and they adore
She couldn't calm his aching heart
Never love from far, from the start
From shore to shore.

Premium MemberSweet and Bittersweet

I try to be a woman of substance
embracing my imperfection
withdrawn and devoid of arrogance
with means of simple expression
attentive to the voice of love within
integrity running beneath my skin
heart palpitations bubbling to the surface
all it takes is a warm and lingering embrace
to release daydreams subtle and sweet
and even accept the outcome bittersweet

Premium MemberI see in your almond eyes that bittersweet love

I see in your almond eyes that bittersweet love,
Flowing slowly as you gaze at my pale and silent face,
Your heart may now carry pure intentions, without shadows,
But I cannot erase the stings, insults, betrayals, screams,
Though I want to love you, my heart has had its share of pain,
Now every fiber of my being is tired

Bittersweet Surrender

Love is cruel, a heartless game
A punishment for minds unwell, a flame
That burns with fervor, yet brings despair
A bittersweet reminder of love's cruel snare

It taunts and teases, a merciless delight
A rollercoaster of emotions, day and night
It lifts us high, only to let us fall
A never-ending cycle, beyond recall

Love is cruel, a test of will
A trial
