Bittersweet Endings
The sunset was beautiful
because it happened
not because it was permanent
I do not resent the sunset
for it has left my sky
I do not resent the stars
as they shine too bright
You were a chapter
A place I called home
A melody I learned to love
A smile I know by heart
I hope someday
you don’t run away
when the sun starts to set
and the night creeps in
I hope you will not
rely on a temporary sunset
to provide you joy
for the rest of your life
I hope someday
someone sits beside you
under a sky painted red
and breaks the walls
you worked so hard to build
I hope she sees the parts
you were afraid to show
I hope she understands you
the way I never could
I hope you laugh more
I hope you smile more
I hope you trust more
I hope you live more
I hope you love more
and I hope I can too.
