Best Down On His Luck Poems

I Saw You

I saw you

in that toothless smile

of the down on his luck stranger

when I offered him

 my juicy pinkish ripe peach

left over from my afternoon lunch

oh how his smile shined so

I saw you

in that twinkle in my daughter's eye

as I chased her around the park

climbing up and down the slides

across the wavering bridges

through the tubes and tunnels

playing a simple game of tag

oh how those eyes twinkled with love

I saw you

in that couple walking on the sandy beach

hand in hand

under the setting sky

the rich hues of yellow, orange, and red

floating in the clouds up high

oh how their passion radiated

I saw you

in that first lily of the spring

opening up so fresh and new

brightening up my garden

each tepal trumpeting a treasured song

oh how magnificent was it's sight

I see you in all that's around

in nature's beauty abound

in kindness, in love, in angelic faces

I see you in all of God's good graces

I see you

Premium Member Cardboard Boxes

Discarded in yesterdays trash
Cardboard boxes never last
New things arrive in them
Old things stored in them
Rotting boxes on a voyage
Leftovers to those with out any coinage

Tom O’Seary had come down on his luck
Just couldn’t seem to make a buck
An elder at church who snuck a shot in a lurch
Now he sleeps in the rain
Cardboard box umbrellas
His home and his pain

One cold winter day
Poor old tom was dead where he lay
Inside his cardboard box
Was his last writings and will and the lot

I, Tom O’Seary of no determined address
I write these words, for they are my last will I confess
I regret all the pompous ways I was an ass
I missed the meaning of the messages, thus I was crass

Now you will lay me below the green grass
I thought I’d be looking down from heavens gates of glass
I was wrong about that too, so wrong
I am just rotting here in the green green grass

My purpose in life may not have been clear
The irony of death is now I know what’s so dear
Live this life with kindness and love
Or else on your grave will be the droppings of white doves

Thomas Edison

Tom sat there eating the last of his bread,
wondering if the next day he'd get fed,
felt like a dumb cluck,
down on his luck,
till a light went off the top of his head.

Bad Luck Duck

There was a duck down on his luck
Who froze in the back of a truck
When found back in town
They said with a frown
There was not enough down on the duck!

A Chinese professor from Bowes
used chopsticks when picking his nose
He’s down on his luck
one chopstick got stuck -
he’s skipping his lunch I suppose!

Prayer For a Homeless Veteran

Prayer for a Homeless Veteran
By Bob Corson

From the mountains in Afghanistan to the shores of Normandy
Brave American men and women risked their lives for you and me
God bless our veterans, brave bold and free
Stand behind them and praise them
They have fought to protect our liberty
They came from the mountains, from the prairies
From near the oceans white with foam
God bless our veterans
We owe them our lives and our home

He had a good job when he went off to war
But when he returned it was there no more

Unemployment ran out, so did his wife
He turned to the streets and began a new life

His clothes are all tattered as is his soul
Living on the street once paved with gold

He’s not a drunk, and he has no addiction
Posttraumatic stress disorder his only affliction

God bless our veterans, brave bold and free
Stand behind them and praise them
They have fought to protect our liberty

He sold all his medals for a room and a meal
God only knows the pain that he feels

He sleeps on a bench or under bridges all alone
God please help him get a place of his own

We feed and house immigrants from terrorist nations
While our hero has to beg for one days rations.

If every American just gave a few bucks
It would help our hero down on his luck

God bless our veterans, brave bold and free
Stand behind them and praise them
They have fought to protect our liberty

They come from the mountains, from the prairies
From near the oceans white with foam
God Bless Our Veteran
Please help him find a home of his own God help him find a home of his own

Now pouts the ex-president Trumpty
his turkey-day gravy’s all lumpy
he’s down on his luck
for he’s a lame duck
his a** voters threw in the dumpty

Premium Member Year of the Street Urchin

Another year of
Homelessness,
Joblessness,
And abject poverty.
Year after year
He wanders about the slums
Shoeless,
Trudging through mud
With bruised feet
Life's uncomfortable;
A bed of roses
Full of thorns
Pricking his weather-beaten skin
When he lies down to sleep at dusk.
Each daybreak, a blessing
To be alive,
Each day, a struggle
To exist, to survive
Out on the mean streets
Panhandling,
Dumpster-diving,
Shelter-hopping
Perennially down-on-his-luck;
Why is life so unkind
To this poor soul?

Premium Member Who's a Loser

Mr Webster's definition of loser
A consistent failure abuser
Turkey that has no wings
Sunkist lemon of a human being

I say Ol' Daniel's wrong
Ain't nobody that far gone
They're bound to have some use
If nothing else, squeeze them for juice

No wings on a turkey, big deal
Who wants wings for a Thanksgiving meal
A wingless bird would be unique
He doesn't say a loser's a freak

So a person has a few bad breaks
Always whines and bellyaches
Makes everyone else a little edgy
Social bothersome , tighty-whitey, wedgie

He may be down on his luck
But a loser, come on, that sucks
That is unless you're in this poetry contest
Then you'll be a loser, if yours ain't the best

Christmas Blows

Familys complaining can ya hear em?
Uncle larry's probaly gonna puke dont get near him.
I kinda messed up sight.
Someone get Bobby Joe outthe street cause ya know he aint bright.

Christmas kinda blows around here.
So toss me a bottle and crack a beer.
Hey did anyone know how the tree caught fire?
No sweetie uncle Stan isnt a down on his luck actor.
He's really a drug dealer and habitual liar.

Is egg nog supposed to have chunks.
No baby it's not cool that your 13 on facebook asking
for pic's of shirtless hunks.

Great it's time to sit down to dinner
Yes sure is great Father O Malley showed up.
Who better to chasethe boys and drink up the whiskey
screaming at the hat rack it's a sinner.

Um it's hard to make snow Angels on the concrete.
No your son isnt spoiled.
He's just wearing more than i make month with his
seven thousand dollar sneakers on his feet.

Grandma it's kiss under the mistletoe no tongue.
Ya think grandpa would have slowed on the cigs after getting put in the iron lung.

Great a blizzard has snowed us all in. yippie im bunking with Little Tommy tinkles thats the
way the holiday goes.
I think freezing to death doesnt sound so bad.
Lord how Christmas blows.

Had to sugar coat this alot happy holidays stay crazy

My Love For Dogs

I love each one of my dogs I do!
they love me back I know its true
I will never question their love for me
or their undying loyalty.

People can say all they want to say
about my dogs and their doggie ways
without them here my life would suck
I would be like a fool down on his luck.

so dont get between my dogs and I
instead just try to see eye to eye
oh how wonderful it would be
if you shared my love for dogs with me.

Hey Buddy

Hey buddy,
can you help a brother down on his luck?
Hey kind sir,
can you help a fella get propped back up?
I’m just a slightly dishonest publican,
who was sticking it to tax evading citizens
Unpatriotic deadbeats who weren’t paying enough
But, that mean ole relative of mine
cast me down
Uncle Sam caught me skimming a bit
Yes, I will admit ...
I did get a tad greedy
and took a little double taste,
got an extra slice
But, I’m not like that uncle of mine!
He put all the money meat on his collection plate,
and ate the whole tax pie
Then, he had the nerve
to throw me out of my cushy seat
into the street
That mean ole man made me homeless,
and have to beg to eat
I was just a small-time, low-level government thief,
Small publican potatoes really
Uncle Sam Maritan, he’s kingpin
Ain’t no money cake being made,
and he’s not getting his cut of the frosting
My adopted blood shamed me publicly,
said he don’t like crooks that get caught
Told me I woulda been solid with him,
if my scheme had been secretly pulled off
But, when it got the spotlight shine,
Uncle Sam disowned me ...
said he wasn’t no kin of mine
So, hey buddy,
you now know my usury half of the story
Can you find it in your pockets
to help a poor grifter
whose been catching a whole lot of bad luck?
I promise to pay it all back to you later,
once I get my hands on another million bucks ...
with interest, of course

Gold Fever

Here's another story that I just made up
That just can't wait to be told
About a weary prospector, down on his luck
That gave his life for his gold

He was way up yonder in the hills, they say
Just him and his scrappy old mule
That poor old mule didn't have no teeth
So he'd sit around the camp and drool

Now that prospector, who we'll call Jake
Was as secret as he could be
He didn't like people snooping around
So he wasn't much for company

See, Jake had been on that mountain
For nigh on twenty years
But he never did hit the mother load
With all his sweat and tears

Then, one day he decided to go fishing
A fish pulled him right in the river
He tried to hang on with all of his might
It's hard to do when you shiver

Jake looked up and was headed toward the falls
So he decided he'd better let go
When he dropped that line, he sunk like a rock
And started thrashing to and fro

Now, Jake was a real good swimmer
He was on the prospector's Olympic team
But, everytime his head went under
All he could do was scream

Now Jake had prospected his whole life
But now, he was getting pretty old
He didn't know the reason he was drowning
But his pockets were full of gold

When he figured it out, he had gold fever
And he refused to let it go
All poor old Jake could think about
Was he finally hit the mother load

See, when that old fish had jerked him in
He was dragging him on the bottom
There was gold just laying everywhere
And that's where his pockets got 'em

Poor old Jake drowned that day
Richest man in the world, I think
His old mule was standing on the bank
Drooling, as he watched him sink

They fished his body out of that river
The next morning before dawn
But they found both pockets as empty as could be
It was stolen by a leprechaun

Well, I guess it's time for me to go
I can see as I look at my clocks
But if you really wanna protect your prospector's gold
Then let me suggest Fort Knox
