One ice cream sundae
Swirled with whipped cream and a cherry on the top
Sitting temptingly in a tall glass
But you were out of reach
I could see you through the window of the restaurant
Melting away in front of my eyes
Like your life was ebbing away from you
With creamy liquid tears running down the side of the glass
Over time the cherry sank deeper into the velvety fluid
Until it disappeared into the thick goo
It’s blushing red cheek barely visible at the bottom of the goblet ...

ONE fire alarm spoiling one perfect moment

This is a true story – it happened on 5th September!

I counted each bone in your fingers as you ran them through my hair..
your lips played a merry tune I almost knew.,
and the soft warm winds blew through us,
in horizontal horizons too vast to comprehend.

The flowers in the field looked on, drenched in summer heat..
and I was content to let the minutes slip on by.

Oh how I love you, do you know that?
the days will find us here again and again
time will allow us this one request, I hope...

Are you hungry?, we could go and have some lunch..
we've already had our dessert.

No, she said.., let's stay with the flowers and let the sun have its fun..
a little longer won't hurt.

I like my friend happy, and happy was her name that day...
keeping in tune as her fingers continued playing..

The weatherman says we're going to get a storm, are you ready?
I am, she said, I've known so many before.

I smiled at her, and she smiled back..
and content to let it be..
and so glad my happy let me.

Give Me Dessert

creamy cheesecake inches deep
red strawberry crowned,
mounds of whipped chocolate fluff
cresting almond cake,
maple pecan pie
sticky crunch-
yum!

I will not forget,
my grandmother's gentle, loving, gnarled touch;
those hands that I loved so very much,
not a day spent with her I will regret.
          We made chocolate cake,
            our best dessert to make;
and we liked sad movies though we got upset,
those old, old hands would reach out for me;
        her grasp a plea . . .

        I have a memory dear,
of grandma holding me to her beating heart;
when death came and my sister had to depart,
stroking my hair until my tears would disappear.
          And when grandpa died,
            we hugged and cried;
I watched her hands grow more fragile each year,
like a twisted road map of her tangled life;
       her death hit like a knife . . .

Oh, give me cake with double chocolate
And strawberry with sweetened cream whipped stiff.
And if you have a cake named butter nut,
I’ll have that too. For just a little whiff
of carrot cake with pineapple thrown in,
I’ll go bananas! Come to think of it,
I might as well go all out in my sin
and also order a banana split!
Each scoop of ice cream different I will take -
one scoop of toffee flavor, one of mint,
and walnut too with slices of my cake!
Let cherries, butterscotch, and caramel drop
onto it all until I say to stop!

DESSERT TABLE

Yes, it’s a beautiful spread
A tantalizing sight
With not Cezanne depth or solidity, but
Our hostess’ fond delight

She’s gathered not justs -
Not just cakes, cheeses and fruit
But a famous pot of snowball flowers,
A tall bottle of ultra-expensive wine, to boot

Now witness her many noted guests
Completely sated, become indecorous, loud,
A regular old-times gathering –
This flouncy, pot bellied, gut roaring crowd

And there are eager eyes, thrust noses
The sober might spy
Peering through banister slats, through cigar smoke.
For just one taste they would die

A wedge from an extant white, coconut cake,
Circus of green wrapped sweets,
Strawberry shortcake, cheesecake
An invitation what they seek

I fear, though, this luxury shall go elsewhere
The pastries, cheeses, fruits gathered all,
The youngsters, discovered, sent off to bed,
And cookie, chauffeur and butler shall have themselves a ball

Premium Member Your Sweet Dessert

I watched the golden sunset, thinking love was out of reach
until you walked into my life as waves rolled on the beach.

I vaguely remember my yesterdays, the things I used to do.
My happiness is overwhelming, and it's all because of you.

I know the taste of sweet wine when you softly kiss my lips
and with your hand in mine, I feel a tingling in my fingertips.

When you look at me with love in your eyes, I yearn for you.
I would never disguise this love that always seems brand new.

My soul would surely cry to spend one night without you near
and my heart would want to die from seeing each forlorn tear.

There's a hunger deep inside of me that only you can sate
like the roaring of the tide when taking the shore for a mate.

But my appetite is not for food to be eaten with my fingers.
You always put me in the mood when your teasing lingers.

No need to peruse a menu to find the entrée I'm waiting for
You're the appetizer on my mind, and I'll always want more.

Tonight we'll dine a little later, but first I think I'd like to flirt.
If you will be my waiter, I promise to be your sweet dessert.

Dessert, A Memory You Have, Balloons

(We Met, We Soared And You Flew Away)

A memory we have of our passionate first night
where candles burned almost as hot as our bed.
Can not forget, sweet lust found in your sight,
memorable treasures now resting within my head!

Your joy at prizes worn popping those balloons
sweet kisses atop that stopped ferris-wheel.
They made me so dizzy I saw two bright moons,
as if heaven had suddenly came down for real!

Every day for that month we ate love's dessert
and savored each new and promising sweet dawn
I have never since felt that epically deep hurt
you waving sad goodbye to me on my front lawn!

A memory we have of our passionate first night
where candles burned almost as hot as our bed.
Can not forget, sweet lust found in your sight,
memorable treasures now resting within my head!

Premium Member The Twenty-Five Thousand Dollar Dessert

Is a dessert costing twenty-five grand what you want?
You can find it in a Manhattan Upper East Side restaurant.
Made with twenty-one types of chocolate and sprinkled gold leaf,
this decadent frozen mousse is something beyond belief.
It comes in a twenty-three carat diamond-encrusted gold dish.
If you found Aladdin’s lamp, would eating this be your wish?
This would be something to brag about and quite nice.
However, the restaurant has been closed due to cockroaches and mice.

From a news story found on AOL.com
This was written a few years ago. The restaurant has reopened since.

by the moonlight i
take long sips of
its celestial white silk, and
follow the cookie path to
heaven, or
to hell, so
delicious, filled with
lemon cream, and

under the lemonade sun, i
sit upon the donut of
chocolate with sprinkles, a
smile steeped with
jelly and cream, a
beacon of
my childhood dream, but

i must consider the
day and night where
lies the gravitational pull
back to earth and
the crunching of
salad cures the
fingers and eyes, from
mistaken delights. the

orange sun squeezes out
its c, and the yogurt moon
spoons a much happier grin, yet
there’s no sin in an occasional

Premium Member Graduation Dessert Dilemma

Reading my son’s graduation dinner menu
It filled me with consternation
Will I make a foolish choice …
I’m full of trepidation

My favourite dessert is on the list
It’s stiffie cockie pudding
Oops – there I go I meant sticky toffee pudding
If I make my spoonerism – I hope and pray it will be missed!!

My first poem posted here is called ‘Just Desserts’ and is a true story. When I read my son’s graduation dinner menu I just HAVE to order this pudding – wish me luck on the day!!!!

Hot Dessert

Cyril the short-sighted cook,
Misread the recipe book,
It said add custard
But he instead added mustard,
The hot dessert made everyone crook.

Premium Member Dutch Wedding Day Dessert

Many many years ago
When I was very small
We attended a wedding in Amsterdam
This memory I recall

Jan and Astrid had got married
Balloons decorated the wedding hall
Wedding favours were scattered on the table …
Sugared almonds, I could have eaten them all!

The wedding breakfast was served
We had all enjoyed a tasty meal
Soon it was time to cut the cake
Something sweet would be ideal

The wedding cake was ‘wheeled’ in
I couldn’t believe my eyes
Tier upon tier of ice cream cake
My mouth dropped open in surprise

To this very day I have never seen
A wedding cake made of ice cream!

This is a true story
FYI ‘Jan’ is a male name meaning John and is pronounced Yann or Yaan in Dutch

Trapped In the Sahara Dessert

Trapped in the Sahara dessert

Overlook at the horizon,
Waves of the heat from the boiling sun,
Dessert sand covering my feet,
Sweat dripping down my back,
Thanks to the north western breeze.

The sand dunes stare at me,
As the sun slowly goes to sleep.
Darkness takes over,
And the owls decide to show up.
Freeing my imagination.

I walk with difficulty,
Towards an island thorn tree.
I place my eyes up in the sky,
Wishing I could see a shooting star,
That could grant my wish,
My wish of freedom.

I suddenly see broken pieces of a mirror,
And when I look at them I can see my broken face,
I feel like a killer.
My heart suddenly changes its pace,
But no its just my mind playing its games.

I walk slow,
With much pain,
My eyes still filled with hope,
Of seeing my home again.
I pray.....
