Best Between Poems
In between my autumn and winter years
Time passes without notice, seeking you
In remembrance of our time, through my tears,
Of passions we shared just you and I knew.
I wait until I am with you again…
At times I feel your warm breath on my cheek.
I recall the past that cannot compare,
A moment with you is all that I seek,
Yet memories now are all that I share.
I wait until I am with you again…
I know you’re waiting to welcome me where
Our soul lights will mingle forever more.
With love’s passion I feel you waiting there.
I yearn to be with the man I adore.
I wait until I am with you again…
My hair is now white like the winter snow,
I listen to music we both enjoyed
And my love, still true, continues to grow.
I search the skies and I’m lost in the void.
I wait in love ‘till I’m with you again.

I write
you into
my upturned world,
gift you wings and transformation,
strewing pixie dust through silenced skies,
aching to see you sparkle and soar,
like an eagle-winged fairy
metamorphosed
into the highest ether,
where peace is more
than a poetic phrase,
and love ~
baptized by the blues of butterfly ink,
no longer a prisoner of pain ~
caged by chaos,
as the world never knew
the burden buried beneath
your blissful smile, and lyrical laughter…..
Tonight
I miss you,
when the haze above untouched seas
bleeds nothingness,
I remember us,
when the music of grieving night
fills my life
in captivating cadence,
and I will forever
write to the swirling stars
to sigh our serene song
when the telepathic moon wanes in weariness,
for even the sky knows
we are more than
just a memoir
pressed between
purple pages of
perfumed
truth…
I tried my best
To live between your cruel words
Yet there was no room
I felt less
Smaller than small
So why didn't I fit?
I wonder
Now that you are gone
Who's words had you borrowed?
Did the pain you gave to me come from another's broken heart?
Was it too much to bare?
I now have room at the end of your sentences.
Not forced within the confines of your spaces
Tracing the manicured pearls of your wisdom
You have not had the last word
I am not doomed to your hypothesis
I'm willing to dance on the edge
My cliff is of note
worthy of jumping from
For I am not Icarus
There is no reason to fear the sun
Only your ice will melt from my wings
I do not wish to re-live your convoluted nightmare
The drifting of your mind
Those barriers to my existence
Freedom at last
Yes
Freedom
At the end
Yes
At the end of your sentences.
The lesson I learned is that the only one who can define my being is me.
I also learned that painful words and curses can be passed on from generation to generation unless we put a stop to it. I thank God for the strength He provided me. I have been blessed beyond what I expected as a child.
Between the whispers and the sighs
The sweet taste of champagne,
still lingers on her lips
The fragrance of jasmine oil,
slides from her fingertips
I know that I'm ready for,
whatever she has in mind
There's a warmth taking over me,
that's moving deep inside
A mystic instigation,
of skin against skin
In breathless anticipation,
for loving to begin
Outside is the darkness,
of a cold winters night
Inside there's a passion,
burning by firelight
Chorus
Between the whispers and the sighs
I can read between the lines,
I'm following your signs,
Between the whispers and the sighs
I sense our love is right on track,
and there's no going back
Outside snow is falling,
no leaves left on the trees
but inside there's a heat that
brings me to my knees
Trapped inside the vertigo,
as lovers rise and fall
Isn't dizzy desire the answer,
whenever romance calls?
Chorus
Between the whispers and the sighs
I can read between the lines,
I'm following your signs,
Between the whispers and the sighs
I sense our love is right on track,
and there's no going back
There's a solemn silence,
no whispering of words
After love's expression,
only heartbeats are heard
I've never ever, felt this way,
for anyone else before
I hear eternity calling us,
as we open up love's door
Chorus
Between the whispers and the sighs
I can read between the lines,
I'm following your signs,
Between the whispers and the sighs
I sense our love is right on track,
and there's no going back
The sweet taste of champagne...
still...
lingers...
on...
her...
lips.

Between
Between dawn and dusky light
Lies the season of daystar’s delight
Between the summer and winter cruel
Lies the season of spring bursting renewal
Between black and white equivalence
Lies the season of gray ambivalence
Between babble and silence sweet
Lies the season of retreat
Between birth and senility
Lies the season of fertility
Between adulthood and the spirit redolence
Lies the season of childhood innocence
Between sin and grace transition
Lies the season of decision
Between prophecy and reality
Lies the season of the heart’s plea
Between doubt and miracles appearance
Lies the season of faith’s perseverance
Between love and hate’s indifference
Lies the season of mercy’s preference
Between death and life’s nativity
Lies the season of Heaven’s clarity
Between Eden and Resurrection
Lies the season of anticipation

Comfort me with the beauty of flowers
where the sunlight beams dance warmly supreme
Devoid of any tears, cruelty or violence
a veil falls away opening petals kiss deeply surrendering
Seasoned between the vertical light and darker clouds
it becomes hard to breathe in your shade breathless sighs
Love does not change even if the earth is frozen over
but as you melt into the mind sweet honey dew springs
This night is all souls night, you can not fail to feel it
residing inside the eyes fountain of forever youth
For the glance of one gentle heart, she will be your bride
radiating warm flames glow anointing preciously the union
To share along the way, feathers from Heaven every day
touching gently the softest satin holds you an angel always divine

(Unrymed Couplet )
He'd be typing away on his desk
with blueprints for the next big thing,
While I'd be staring off into the azure sky
appreciating the "insignificant" things
You really are a genius
in your field of technicalities,
with which you thoroughly water;
A wife, a place of your own,
and a destination in mind
Me?
You'll find me in the corner
(no not a corner... think rounded edges,
much more safe)
Half past ten, still in bed,
with rolls of cash in a Ziploc bed
(I'm not dealing and I'm sorry if I gave you that
impression... more likely
just a descendant of Scrooge)
Your perfectly organized life
(my just screw it attitude)
Well I must say you are on your way,
but where exactly too?
I solemnly wish
we had, but one thing
in common, dearest brother,
Even with the knowledge
that I wrote this for you
I'm sure deep down
you'd think this quite sappy
And being the person that I am
I'd immediately think of tree metaphors
(now what what rhymes with cedar?)
And being the person you are
you'd probably just go about your day
wondering about the latest Apple product
You live next door
and yet somehow
galaxies came between us,
Practical you gathered sticks and stones
for your shelter here on Earth
(I was too busy daydreaming
on Mars)
From the moment I opened my eyes
and peaked my little head out
from the pool in the backyard,
we were brothers, through and through
... so why do I have this nagging urge
to shake your hand and ask
"Have we met?"
The space between stars contains countless hidden gems
A locked tight treasure trove, opened up by our lens
Prisms split apart light spectra, and dopplers change shifts
We watch galaxies do cartwheels across great rifts
The space between stars, zooms us backwards in time
Before gods arrived, to claim the cosmos divine
In turn challenged by telescopes on trellised stilts
Optics probe heaven, to find it’s still being built
The space between stars is empty, No! not a chance
Black holes wolf down photons, spinning neutron stars dance
on nebulous clouds, stirring up pillars of dust
Remnants from a time, when supernovae went bust
The space between stars, is black magic synergy
Far-out matter thrives, tripping on dark energy
All goes unseen, beyond the human naked eye
Minds can sense its presence, but are stripped bare of why
Of course we share gravity, and are loosely bound
Tests our reason, so hermetically profound
The draw of the universe will never expire
Its paradox tears apart, yet keeps us entire
Between Your Words
Dad
I tried my best
to live between your cruel words
Yet there was no room
I felt less
smaller than small
Like a comma that didn't fit
a period in the wrong place
a question not deserving an answer
I wonder
Now that you are gone
Who's words had you borrowed?
Did the pain you gave me
come from another's broken heart?
Was it too much to bear?
I now have room at the end of your sentences.
Not forced within the confines of your spaces
No longer force fed the pearls of your wisdom
You have not had the last word
I am not doomed to your hypothesis
I'm willing to dance on the edge of possible
My cliff is of note
worthy of jumping from
For I am not Icarus
I have no reason to fear the sun
Only your ice will melt from my wings
I do not wish to relive your convoluted nightmare
The drifting of your mind
Those barriers to my existence
Freedom at last!
Yes freedom at the end of your sentences.
Dedicated to anyone who has been caught between words.
Five light years is the average distance
that separates any two stars -
five light years of hydrogen, helium and dust.
It is a l o n g space
of seeming emptiness.
You and I are two stars too.
Now separated,
is there only nothingness between us?
I will show you there is not.
I will shine my light toward you, scattering it through
the dust of your indifference.
One day you will know my absolute resolution.
Slowly I will approach, driven by mad devotion
and drawing you ever nearer to me.
At last, we will collide, becoming one.
Everything dividing us will vanish,
and with a love so massive, rare, and hot,
we will be as unique as blue stragglers,
sparkling night's sky with our passion.
In the nighttime hours
As the world deftly creeps by
I summon my powers
Spread my wings and fly
Past cotton clouds,
Snow-capped mountains, white
I am lost and I am found
I am beauty and blight
Past the midnight chimes
A soul searching for home
Tangling myself in rhymes
So as to not feel alone
Catch the updraft of hope
Friendship sun on my face
My place in this world in scope
Loathing, with love replace
A strand of pearls not tied with knots;
we’re held together — just a thread.
At times like sticky spider silk
and other times a shred of string
that aches and breaks and throws our pearls across the floor.
The clatter scatter marble-mess
of all the dirt and hurts we pretty-wrapped.
Without the knots between the pearls, we
come undone. On hands and knees
we hunt and gather what’s to be restrung —
each dressed-up sphere once a naked tear
accumulated once again,
this time to tie ourselves and beads in line
to knot together “could-have should-have” shrugs
and form a diff’rent rope of pearls …or a noose
and in this space of rest — the screws between the pearls,
we plot a dream more fluff than faith before the cobweb breaks.
No doubt, we’re dilettantes in love bites art of making-up.
Knots may keep us stranded
but nots will keep us apart.
Is it Love
a simple bowl of ice cream
sweating from the heat
cherries on the top
huddled 'round and looking sweet
two little wooden paddles
pretend that they are spoons
as we sit beneath the stars
in the savor of the moon
your lips are all I see
as they caress them with a passion
the cherries on your tongue
in a delightful playful fashion
with our eyes intent and focused
in a stare of solemn trust
Is this ice cream truly love
or is it merely cherry lust
Between a rock and a hard place
I sigh
I cry
Between a rock and a hard place
unable to speak
growing weak
Between a rock and a hard place
Unable to move
stuck in this groove
Between a rock and a hard place
I am still here
you are still near
Between a rock and a hard place
just where you left me
wondering why
parched and dry
you watch
as I die
Between a rock and a hard place
Between The Lines
Tribute to FJ Thomas
@ poetrysoup.com
No doubt you'll read the words she writes
of love in lovers eyes.
Seashells on a beach somewhere
beneath the clear blue skies.
Holding hands and taking walks
in the springtime in a park.
Or whispers being whispered
by lovers after dark.
But when it comes to those she loves
and those that stand beside her.
Unless you read between the lines
it's all kept safe inside her.
Like dreams some dream long after dark
while laying fast asleep.
And promises of secrets known
she promised she would keep.
There's nothing there to hold her back
there's nothing she must hide.
It's just it's much too personal
to talk of tears she's cried.
There were times in love before
when certain words were spoken.
What she got for all she gave
was getting her heart broken.
So for now she's come to think
of the heart that's in her chest.
Certain things are better off with
those that she knows best.
All in all just like a star
you can see how her love shines.
But to see beyond the light
you must read between the lines.
