The space between stars contains countless hidden gems
A locked tight treasure trove, opened up by our lens
Prisms split apart light spectra, and dopplers change shifts
We watch galaxies do cartwheels across great rifts

The space between stars, zooms us backwards in time
Before gods arrived, to claim the cosmos divine
In turn challenged by telescopes on trellised stilts
Optics probe heaven, to find it’s still being built

The space between stars is empty, No! not a chance
Black holes wolf down photons, spinning neutron stars dance
on nebulous clouds, stirring up pillars of dust
Remnants from a time, when supernovae went bust

The space between stars, is black magic synergy
Far-out matter thrives, tripping on dark energy
All goes unseen, beyond the human naked eye
Minds can sense its presence, but are stripped bare of why

Of course we share gravity, and are loosely bound
Tests our reason, so hermetically profound
The draw of the universe will never expire
Its paradox tears apart, yet keeps us entire

Dear David, I'm captivated by your incredible poem. Creative as it is thought-provoking! I adore your awesome imagery, thoughtful musing and sublime rhymes. I'm especially struck by "The space between stars, zooms us backwards in time/Before gods arrived, to claim the cosmos divine" I love to imagine what it must have been like eons ago before mankind laid claim to everything including the cosmos. An exceptional piece! Congratulations for your success in Mark's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thanks so much Susan, it really is hard to understand what the Earth looked like without us humans around, we only have scraps of information to go on, and can build a sketchy educated picture, but we still only scratch at the surface, paradoxically we know more about what the cosmos looked like, as we always observe it in its past state, you are very gracious for stopping by with beautiful comment, cheers David

Heya Crystol, the universe is such an amazing place even without my poetic spin, so much so the astronomers and cosmological physicists are questioning everything they thought they already knew, thanks so much for your visit and kind comment, cheers David

David congratulations on your well deserved Win. You have captured this theme to perfection. Your knowledge of the Heavens is without a doubt shared in this Winning piece of yours. I read Stephen Hawkings book and this marvelous example of the Universe with its diverse characteristics reminds me of his research on worm holes, where they suck in even gravity. I can tell you are a fan of Space. I can appreciate your detailed descriptions. I am not into the Big Bang theory though. I believe...

A team of us researchers George Hoenig, my brother, a business owner, and a Patent Attorney from Kodak were all involved in the examining of evidence. Pictures were taken and an amazing discovery took place, of a picture of an areal alien craft that I took. When the picture was analyzed they could not believe that the Craft was without matter but the picture showed it to be solid. Also the Mauntauk project of Space travel which is a true story on the tip of Long Island always peeked my interest of space and Universal travel. That is why I so appreciated your knowledge in this Winning example of the Cosmos. Loved it David.

David I appreciate your kind comment in response. You are a true gentleman and you are highly intelligent. We shared a love of the Cosmos. I don't know if you know that I researched UFO's for many years. These beings zig zag through the universe all the time. They travel great distances through worm holes and also can manipulate Dimensions. I did most of my research in Pine Bush NY after reading Dr Ellen Crystals Book Silent Invasion.

Thank you Michael very kindly for your wonderful comment and Fave, I personally have no clue as to where the universe came from other than what the theories predict, of course as an agnostic I have some concepts of my own, but never negate any possibility of a god creating the cosmos, I did enjoy writing this one based on observations and knowledge acquired throughout my life, I’m delighted you find comfort in your faith and belief, which is a blessing in itself, I was overjoyed with the win in Dilly’s contest, cheers David

God was first and this was his creation... Not to Scientific per say, but the Bible has proven itself in the old testament stating events that took place hundreds of years later proven in the new testament. One thing I will say I was totally impressed with your knowledge of The Universe and your creative ability to bring everything together perfectly. Again Congratulations, this is a Favorite...

What a great name (Cloud Fever) and a cute Avatar, I’m delighted my poem in some way touched your heart, to be honest most of my posts are a little on the dark side, but there is beauty to be found even in an apparent void, thank you so much for kind comment, cheers David

Thank you Thriveni, I’m delighted with the win in Dilly’s contest you picked out some of my favourite lines in this one, I always try add a few layers to my poems, doesn’t always work due to over complexity, but are easy enough to peel back here methinks! cheers David

Such beauty amidst such violence. It’s so obvious the we are its creation… a chip off the ol’ block. I truly enjoy poetry that leaves you thinking about its content long after you’ve read it. Well done, David.

I guess we are a microcosm of the universe Mark, and have inherited so many of its traits, so much so I often ponder if we could have one without the other, (a chip of the ol’ block) opens up so many possibilities and eventualities for us, I totally agree, glad you enjoyed the read, cheers David

Endless sparks. "countless hidden gems, zooms us backwards in time, is black magic synergy " Many reasons why the space in between the stars is not empty. I can tell this came effortlessly for you professor. Cheers!

Thanks reporter Anaya lol! As you can see from the picture above, the space between stars is far from empty when seen through a powerful telescope, the poem itself took a fair bit of figuring out, but having some knowledge of the universe and how it works was indeed a big bonus, but there is also more exotic stuff between the stars Dark Matter/Energy etc that we cannot see, yet the equations predict are there, mind boggling isn’t it, cheers David

Heya Paula, the very nature of the space between the stars means when we zoom in with our telescopes almost the whole history of the universe starts to appear as photons of light, and the space appears jam packed with all sorts of magical phenomenon, so had plenty of stuff to work with, cheers David

You've certainly put some thought into this one David. It's hard to comprehend sometimes we can only guess and read up on the theories that have been written. Who knows what's inside a black hole, for all we know we could be already in one and if not now when our sun dies earth will get sucked in. No wonder they're looking at colonising Mars. Good luck in the contest. Tom Enjoy your weekend

Thanks Tom, so many contradictions arise when trying to figure out the deep universe, thing is we can only see it as it looked in the past, we have no idea how it would appear if we could see it in its present state, a lot might be already gone, it’s all pretty bonkers, but the beauty for me is like you said any scenario is possible even already being in a black hole, have a great weekend, cheers David

Gosh, David, you certainly went in-depth for writing this one. So many thoughts and theories to ponder, all feasible to me. I went in a different direction. I couldn't rhyme for this one... not sure why, but if it doesn't make sense to anyone, I'll blame lack of sleep. lol

Heya Lin, this one was right in my line of view, the theories I already knew, apart from the seemingly impossible dark energy (black magic) what’s going on there is anyone’s guess, I had to chip off a few lines, when I realised 20 was the limit, thanks so much for Kind comment, hope your one goes well, perhaps have an afternoon nap before posting lol! Cheers David
