Just A Question?

I was wondering if when you post a comment to someones writing, if you see an error they have made, do you say something there, or do you send them a message through soup mail letting them know.  I still don't know my way completely around yet and don't want to do something wrong.  Thanks, Jerri

I think it is kind of silly to go to the bother of a soupmail for something trite, like a typo, Jerri. anyone too sensitve to take heat on a spelling erro, good grief!! But if you have a MAJOR concern about a poem, like a hard criticism, then take it to Soupmail. that is my opinion. LUv, Andrea

Yeah, I'd rather someone soup mail me too. And I feel the same way as James, sometimes punctuation is purposefully wrong... but spelling errors, I doubt most people want those- so if you see an error there is nothing wrong with soup mailing someone. But, that is merely my opinion.

Jerri its most likely better to Soup Mail the poet to mention the error u saw in their piece.. happens a lot so don't feel funny about it.. make it a light hearted comment in the Soup Mail... OK.. with luv..

such a fluid subject here at the soup....no simple answers, each poet understands the importance of typos in an unique way....for eg: I appreciate being notified of spelling typos, but not punctuation, as my poems lack assorted dots on purpose! I think they're MESSY!!!and if the reader can't see that, then there is no hope for that reader!!!!

Very good question you have here Jerri, something which I should've asked a long time ago...whenever I see typos, I mostly go by feel too-- if the typos aren't too major, like a missing letter or something of that nature, I usually just put in the comment and just add in that I was just trying to help. But if there's more than 1 typo, or it's harder to explain like a grammatical error,I usually just send soupmail OR hmm in the case of this one person who's already used to me being a typo magnet, my method has evolved a bit--I just leave "subtle" hints, not blatantly pointing out the typo-- so in a nutshell, it really depends (sorry I seem to be going around in circles lately) hope this helps...nikko :)

Hi Jerri, that is a wonderful question to ask.~ My opinion is that the kind and civil thing to do is send the person a soupmail~ Leave a message with your comment to check soupmail as there is no signal here to tell us we have soup mail~ and some people do not check it all the time.~I do not believe in leaving negative comments on a poem for all to view~ the same result will happen, the poem will get corrected.~ Be careful how you word it however, some are very very sensitive~ For myself, please, please, correct me if you see an error, those typos happen so easily or it could be something else, never hesitate with me~ I welcome your feedback just not on my poem~~~ i

Soup Mail. Some poets get their feathers ruffled when mistakes are pointed out in their work. We don't know why.

Good Morning Jerri. I have found that most people would rather receive the error comment through Soup Mail. I understand that and I myself would rather have a Soup Mail on it. Love, Carol

It depends on the person and it takes double the time to reply in soup mail. Many folks even get upset if you say in a comment Line 4 saw/not swa....Mostly unless it's a very good work and I just comment short in comment section. Dane Ann is my tact advisor. I TEACH??? lol in soup mail.
