Clarifying my contest...

Blog Posted:2/7/2013 12:01:00 PM
Hello Soupers I gather from your questions and comments some of you are finding my contest very difficult, ( it was meant to be ) so this is to clarify it, (hopefully)

The first word of your poem must start with a consonant and the last word must start with a vowel. If a line in your poem ends with a vowel then the start of your next line must be a consonant and vice verse, so from the start it will be consonant then vowel then consonant then vowel and so on until the end of your poem which must be a vowel.

Your title is to be only two words starting with a consonant then vowel.

13 lines in total no more or less and a minimum of six words per line.

There are quite a few entrees already but 5 of them are wrong, so if you have already entered could you please go back and re-read very slowly as I do not want to lose a great poem because the sequence is incorrect. Sometimes we read and read and still miss the obvious so if you are friends with someone ask them to look at your poem. If anyone wants to soup me and ask if their poem is correct or wrong I will gladly do it but I will not tell you what your mistake is if you have made one, ( I think that's fair ) and obviously I will not comment on your poem until after judging. I hope this helps but soup me if you are still unsure.

I must've re-read my poem a thousand times, before I realised the two words in my title were the wrong way round! DUH!

Ok, I'm clear on it now. That's what I was unsure about...being able to end a line with a consonant word and starting the next line with a vowel word. I thought maybe you wanted it consistent as far as starting with consonant and ending with vowel...got it now...and I've got one in the making. Hopefully I'll get it in.

I found reading David's example poem most helpful and answered all these questions....Do a count of the entire poem and it follows Con/Vow through the whole body ending with a vowel. He just wants at least 6 words or more (your choice) on each line of the poem and the entire poem to follow con/vow words.

they way I am taking it is that it does not matter if every single line begins with consonant as long as the very first line does, and then everything alternates C/V until the end, with vowel. Right? Still not sure I will try it. hahaha

Right...all can begin with a consonant but doing that all must end with a vowel... The whole poem...from title to last vowel word follows the order of con/vow. Even if it is a new sentence. If it ends in a vowel..the next line starts with a cons...and visa versa.

Believe it or not for me you are still not clear. It is possible to end a line with a consanant. If I end a line with a consanant I still begin the next line with a consanant RIGHT? EVERY line begins with a CONSANANT yes? GAH! You said no more than 6 words per line that means 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 words are OK c/v..c/v/c..c/v/c/v..c/v/c/v/c..c/v/c/v/c/v...now if I do 6 words per line EVERY TIME it's fine but what if I did [like I did :P] & vary the number of words per line?? If you want every other word thoughout the whole thing to alterante then a line can BEGIN with either a consanant or a vowel and also end with either.

Debbie, if you read David's example on his page...Starting with the title... Con/ Vow then the body of ENTIRE POEM...follows Con/Vow all the way through ending with the last word a vowel. If one line ends in a con...the next line begins with a vow..etc etc etc. The Entire poem from Title to last word must follow Con/ Vow /con/vow..etc.

Hi Debbie you can do as many words per line as you want to, as long as it is a minimum of six per line, so you could end up with one line ending in a consonant word and the nex t might be a vowel word it doesn't matter about the line end word as long as your next word is following the sequence of consonant / vowel...

OK I checked and its just less likely to be wrong if you DO..do 6 words per line so I did that..lucky I checked cause i had 7 in some..but I ended with a 4 word line, the last word is still a vowel..HOPE its right now! LOL

Got it! I am enjoying the challenge and I think there is some fluid flowing back into my dry poetic well. :)
