For My Darling Sister, My Punky
I gave Him all thanks when she was born,
my sweet event, my newborn, babe sis.
All that she did, did my heart adorn.
Loving her when seven was valued bliss.
I brought Mom warm wash cloths each change time,
and told her when new bottles were prime.
Joy was snuggling her in bed or a chair.
My Elizabeth Jane's skin was fair,
with a cute button nose and eyes sky blue.
Five ten's have passed and my sis' love stays true.
Today I’m grateful for all the saints I’ve had in my life
Grateful that for saints I do not lack….
Grateful that when I’ve needed them
They’ve been her to easy my mind
tend to my bruises
and carry me on their back.
you get home from a work
greeted with a smile
a hug and i'll hold you for a while
i'll ask how it's been
and you'll give me an answer
that's nothing short of true
we'll go to bed
and greet each other in the morning
rather than every blue moon
and i'll smile
knowing i can hold you again
even if it's only for a little while
you'll laugh
and i'll be reminded
how i love you so
talks of getting married
i promise
i won't ever go
you'll say thanks
for me doing a little chore
i'll say thanks
for loving me often
and loving me some more
Today I’m grateful for the art of Mother Nature…
her landscapes I prefer…
for no artist who ever was
or is
can paint any better than her
Here’s an extra-large thank you to Israel and Ukraine
who have fought the West’s wars for them
holding Iran and its proxies, and Putin’s Russia at bay
Imagine if Putin was now attacking the Baltics or Poland
or if Jerusalem and Israel, Iran had overrun
Of course, then the West could stop obsessing about gender and race
as criminal regimes spat missiles and drones in her soft, fleshy face
Beneath those smiles
You silently hide
The wounds that pile
Inside
You show me light
Like stars in the night
But slowly subside
Inside
If you would dare
To let me be there
And show what you hide
Inside
I'll raise you high
With all that I try
To save your life
Inside

Thanks go first and last to my wife
My best friend, companion
the love of my life
She sticks with me through thick and thin
Which boggles my mind
reflecting on the jams we’ve been in
She tells me her darkest secrets, no matter how awful
I, in turn, return the favor ~
We've been through a 'jawful'

The world and all its splendor where life begins
Human Beings of all and those who I call friends
America our diverse country and all that she defends
Nights and days of the week especially the weekend
Knowing those who I can count on until the bitter end
Family first is a favorite motto that I often recommend
Underneath the covers and snuggled up to her rear end
Love above all to say the least not fake or pretend
Flowers and trees mixed with the sky and how they blend
Old muscle cars with big motors and a shiny chrome front end
Reading poetry from The Soup often over, and over again

How blessed are we to have nature as our teacher
although her biggest obstacle
which leads to her biggest concern
is how even the greatest teacher cannot teach
those who are unwilling to learn.
Today I’m thankful for the ability to dance
and for having read the words of people like Vicki Baum…a gifted Austrian writer
Who through her writing helped to make our world a little brighter
Like the day in her life when she penned this little gem
There are shortcuts to happiness she wrote
and dancing is one of them
Got a bag of old tokens I keep near to hand
They have served me well when travelling through this land
Never gets turned down, it's money in their banks
Each one is labelled and just simply says "Thanks"
As I move along this ol' road that I'm upon
I may visit with you but soon I will be gone
I will give you a token and point out they're free
To show you that I enjoyed your fine company
Someone had once left me, 'twas her time to depart
I carry the memories deep within my heart
She did give me a token with a hug and a grin
I will repay her when at last we meet again
So when you wake on morn, fill up your token bag
It will lift your travels whether they're good or bad
Giving thanks is like karma, it comes back to you
And after time goes by your tokens will accrue
Today I’m thankful for people…
in a country where freedom has never been as easy for everyone as it should be…
who are courageous enough to teach are country’s true history.
People like Lucille Clifton…a famous poet who knew
Teaching an alternative form of history was absurd…
I think she said it best so I’ll leave you with her words
When faced with being taught a different history than she knew and lived
She respectfully declined,
Saying…
They ask me to remember
But they want me to remember their memories
and I keep on remembering mine.
Today I’m thankful for the sea…
When you first experience it…
no matter where you are..or when…
once you’ve looked out on the ocean
and been mesmerized by her tides
you’ll never be the same again
Today I’m thankful for the moon….
I love to linger under her…and as I watch her for a while…
I wonder when the first of us saw her changing faces…
if it’s from the moon we learned to smile
Today I’m thankful for nature
And how spiritual in her presence I can be….
Whenever I feel her wind in my hair
her sun on my face
and her rain washing over me
