Premium MemberOde to a True Poet - Apr 6

O’ Pat Pattison, you, my brilliant teacher,
I would shower in praises, had you not
taught me better! for cliches void of thought
are as worthwhile as a couch surfin’ moocher!

O’ masterful and deepest sort of creature,
shocked then, in the thrall of churning wounds, distraught
I found your grace—and for my breaking clot
you gave me poetry, this soothing suture.

Trochees and iambs, blank verse, Shakespear’s form—
you illuminated a path obscure
to my sight. The subtle rhythms and rhymes
you used as guideposts through a ruthless storm
are now the tools that fix me fast,—secure.
I’d take your class again a million times.

Premium MemberTHANKFUL FOR NATURE THE TEACHER

How blessed are we to have nature as our teacher
although her biggest obstacle
which leads to her biggest concern
is how even the greatest teacher cannot teach
those who are unwilling to learn.

Premium MemberTHANKFUL FOR KNOWING WHEN TO TEACH AND WHEN TO LEARN

We are all students and we are all teachers…
Today I’m thankful for being each…
And may I be blessed to always know…
when it’s time to learn
and when it’s time to teach

Premium MemberTHANKFUL THAT WE ARE ALL TEACHER AND STUDENTS

Today I’m thankful that we are all teachers and students in life
The trick being…as we round every turn turn…
Is knowing when to teach
and knowing when to learn.

Premium MemberThanks

For hundreds of Moons
Save all the Summers,
You engaged young minds
One youth at a time
Teaching new students.

But that’s not all,
You mentored young
Teachers, with pride.
For many years.

Excellence,
Scholarship,
Legacy.

And now,
Retired.

Thanks!

Premium MemberHow I Came To Lose Thirty Pounds

Back in 2003, a fellow teacher came up to me
A skinny fellow, all angles and elbows and knees
       He stared at my stomach
He stared me in the eye
He poked me in the stomach
              And cried:
      "My friend, you are FAT!"...
      Then walked away with a
             Tip of his hat
And I never saw him again after that

Premium MemberYes There Are

Yes there are

The teacher who cares

The fireman who dares

The police who simply just do

The nurse who won't tire for you

Yes there are

The vet who burns the night light

The doctor who makes it right

The carer who's word is more than alright

The volunteer who won't quit

The social worker who'll make sure

The friend who'll stand by you

Yes there are

The soldiers who'll protect

The sailors who'll defend

The airmen who will not quit
when they're in the thick of it

Yes there are

Good people in our lives

Good people with no disguise

Good people who we should all praise

To all the good people out there

I salute you because you really care.
