For my friends and family
who even though they’ve passed…
or there’s a distance between us of many miles…
I’m grateful I have stored within my mind
the memory of their smiles.
We fought with monsters and became monsters fighting the insane acting out in strange displays dancing nonsense in a cave imprisoned by a thousand lies we designed to contain a willful child, and with hammer blows and the whips we made ourselves better slaves then the slaves who came before with fevered dreams drunken prose spoken lost and broken noses, broken skulls, broken bones tore through flesh, the fear, the fear, I miss my friends, those younger days, it seemed to me we would never grow old, tired. I am grateful throughout my life…
as my life moves by so swift…
To have viewed any time with family and friends
not only a bonus…but as a gift.

The nourishment of basic needs

Reminding us to keep the faith
In what has provided for us
- Be it Earth or God, Self or other -
And what we have to live for,
For each of us have our own lives to be thankful for

I am thankful for ~
treasured memories of every loved one I've ever known
and for each act of kindness to me a stranger has shown
I appreciate my senses; never treating them as mundane
for sunlight's gift of warmth and nature's nurturing rain
I appreciate wondrous things I've been given sight to see
and that I'm able to feel a gentle breeze stirring over me
I'm grateful I can hear the lilting song of a whippoorwill
and for tears I've shed when happiness caused them spill
I'm indebted to those who forgave me for all my mistakes
and for laughing like a child while trying to catch snowflakes
For friends who tell me cold hard truths when I need telling
and for faith in God through scripture that I find compelling
the stars, who remember my wishes
the hearts who’ve quieted my tears
the seas, all their imaginative fishes
the souls who’ve silenced my fears
the wonders of a God who knows my heart
the assurance of everlasting life
