Fall seven times, rise eight
Shake off the dust, shed the weight
Soldier on with increased stride and pace
Unwavering and wearing a brave face
For the man who believes lives
And God who forgives gives
All have sinned and fallen short
No man’s will is a formidable fort
His building and watching are in vain
His own ways and means must be slain
And too his appetite for transgression
If God’s Will must find expression
The old must waste and face ban
For the full making of a new man
The Spirit of God puts up insistence
Overpowering the flesh’s resistance
And since so little of self was involved
No flesh claims to have had this resolved
Praise be to God for His Grace
Being our edge of Truth in life’s race
For the picture would be grim and dim
Had it not been for Him
And so where we gloated and rumbled
We now stand redeemed and humbled
Not by might, not by power
Nor by the apt knowledge of the hour
Did we find ourselves favored
Or claim to have so laboured
We were carried on eagle’s wings
We who are now made priests and kings

Uranus once ruled the ethereal realm
And for a while was at the helm
Until his son, Cronus, overthrew him
But Cronus, too, would have the crown seized from him
Cronus feared he'd lose the throne
Which caused him to swallow more than his pride
He swallowed his children; his wife did groan
But Zeus, she managed to hide
Zeus would eventually rescue his swallowed kin
A potion given to Cronus caused him to 'hurl' them out
But for the throne, there would be a war to win
In their battle with Cronus, victory came about
Thunder rumbled, and a dark cloud coils
Now it was time to divide the spoils
Cronus was imprisoned, never to be set free
Zeus got the sky and Poseidon the sea

a shriek,
a high-pitched scream echoed against the walls,
lightning flashed,
thunder rumbled deep and hard into my chest.
pain,
tightness,
ache,
sorrow.
it cannot be real, this is not happening, I cannot believe it.
to never again see,
talk,
hug,
love on,
joke,
dance.
our son was –
our only boy was –
our eldest child was –
our headache was –
our heart was –
our angel is –
forever 26.

As I fondled my plunder
A wind from down under
Got caught on the breeze
It wafted and floated
But still I felt bloated
And dropped to my knees
As it tore me asunder
I recalled days of thunder
What'd help to appease
My stomach just rumbled
In agony mumbled
Some TUMS if you please
Took more than two rolls
Prayers read from dead scrolls
To cure this disease
But then belly now loaded
The wind then exploded...
And blew bark off the trees

Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 16: 18
she stood tall on the jagged edges of the cliff
face worried as she noticed the rough seas
whilst above high dark clouds rumbled
though the sun shone straight at her face
could it enlighten her about what had happened
thoughts came and went, as she remembered
the letter he had sent her and wondered
was she deceived by her soldier and sister
he insulted her refusing to marry him
and she insulted him back vowing
she would never marry him come what may
still thoughts rumbled inside her mind
was he really proud or was she prejudiced
the jagged edges of a knife pierced her soul
could there have been some half-truths in his insults
she still hated him but admired his handsome face
facts churned in her head and confused her even more
could she face those jagged edges of truths
she turned and walked down the rough cliff
her soul lacerated with truths and pride

on our way back from a trip,
got down by the bright streetlamp.
hunger raged, bowels rumbled.
the inviting smell of food,
wafted from nearby cafe.
noodles and spicy meat fry,
with a cup of steaming tea,
titillated our palate.

The Necktie
He woke up fully dressed, minus his tie, in the lumpy bed
of a third-rate hotel, which had a fridge beside the TV
The last semi-civilized place, one up from sleeping rough
The room reeked of depravity, and a dusty curtain
protecting the inhabitants from the cruel world outside
The news was about a woman who strngled with a tie
He sat up, and he had lost his tie
The tie was green with black dots on it, should he ring
the TV station and ask what color the tie is?
Or should he remorsefully and fearfully sober confess
to a murder he could not remember having committed
The fridge rumbled, he got up, opened it, in the hope of
finding a cold beer; there, wrapped around a bottle
whisky, a red necktie

He said 'owwww'
as she said 'ouchhh'.
On a Saturday night.
'Cause back in the day they could hit the dance floor,
leaving others grinning , taking notes of their steppin' toes.
As the effortless sway from side to side,
made them smile,
music just right,
jamming throughout the night.
The DJ was spinning records from the beginning,
to the ending, as they placed upon their heads the crowns.
He said unto the crowd,
they were the booty shakers,
make no mistake, earthquakes
rumbled with each and every move.
Flips and turns, that others yearned,
wishing they, too could do; to watch and learn.
As royalty was on the dance floor.
leaving others to take note, and yearn for more.

I stood on edge of stream
crystal clear and cobbled,
with stones jagged and rough,
smooth flat and rounded.
How could this rumbled jumble
or rocks and gravel have got there?
Which stone was tossed and thrown?
Which was skipped there by tiny hands
trying for eight skips or more?
Which was placed strategically in
a row of stepping stones for dry-feet
to cross the stream to the other side?
Which stones slid and bounced there,
from way upstream, carried by
the last raging snow-melt torrent?
My path through life has similar
ups and downs, with slips and slides,
rocks and gravel, all rumbled
and jumbled together.
With the legacies of the ways I've found to
skip, step and slide,
to reach my milestones in the
sinuous stream of life,
riddled with scattered stones.

It was late at night, and
everything was dead quiet.
Only in the unruly city
Did people create a riot.
On the side, straw was scattered;
A baby pika crawled in.
His stomach rumbled;
He was on a forced diet.
All around was silence,
But he hid in some straw.
Two shivering people crawled in.
The baby pika looked in awe.
Still, the night was silent.
As the woman lay down.
She emptied her things,
A swaddling cloth and a gown.
Soon, she was to give birth.
The baby pika groaned in despair.
The babe was born,
The cow shed was filled with celestial light.
Heavenly music filled the manger,
Angels flew above in adoration.
Hail, the Saviour, was born
For everyone of any nation.
Even the baby pika felt elated,
And wondered what he should do.
As shepherds came to adore,
The baby pika just joined the queue.

Getting down at a strange place in a desolate station,
I looked for an Uber taxi to reach my location.
There was no one around, and no taxi in view.
I knew rain coming, as thunder rumbled and wind blew.
It was getting late and the sun had already set.
With darkness surrounding me, I felt so upset.
Panic stomped into me as I stood desperately alone.
From far I got the enticing smell of a cologne.
Looking around I saw someone hastily coming
It was a lady and seemed of decent grooming.
She sensed my escalating fear and volunteered to escort.
I accompanied her, profusely thanking her for support.
* * * * * *
Opening my eyes, I saw the lady down on the floor- a corpse frosted.
To my great shock, I knew I was in a house haunted.
A wave of dread ran over me and I screamed in terror
Unable to move, my body shook in deadening horror!

He played a rock steady beat,
That rumbled as a train on its tracks.
The echoes rebellious stark.
Moving the nicotine in the chest.
Siphoning joy from the very air.
Distilling it down to a sound.
He played a rock steady beat,
The snare rasping like sand on grass.
Hip swaying and ecstasy led.
A blur of microphone humming.
Distorted and redacted down.
Making sense only to the senses.
He played a rock steady beat.
When summer heat promises darkness.
Sweat crawling spider like.
Unable to think through the noise.
A dream of bass note vibrations.
And white lightening feedback.

tweet tweet
birds that fly
greeted Hi
and they sing
tweet tweet
creak creak
who could have
made all of them
made me smile
heart's overwhelm
swish swish
fish on the pond
flapped their tails
and they go
swish swish
roar roar
and we got scared
the mighty lion
rumbled
roar roar
hiss hiss
a snake came out
the bushes
and goes
hiss hiss
broom broom
as I drive over
the wilderness
broom broom
we've all seen
the masterpiece
now I wonder
who is the
great artist?

If I had my time over again
I wouldn't eat that take out.
My stomach rumbled in the den
And diarrhea I had no doubt.
I ran quickly to the toilet.
Unfortunately, I didn't make it.
