My family joined a summer outing
So excited for swimming and rafting
Mom got our swim vests with suits
Dad just brought his parachutes
And kept eyes on us, flying and shouting.

I’m gonna lay down my burdens
Down by the riverside
Like the ancestors
Enjoy this spiritual ride
Smooth sailing from now on
Rough currents will come
In the winds, I will confide
A place where peace and sovereignty collide
Swimming through this thing called life
Whispers of strength from the waters are my guide
Negative energy occupied
Positive vibes certified
Hope blows in the air
Every breath Bonafide
Nautical I stride
I’m gonna lay down my burdens
Down by the riverside

Sometimes the dry desert wind
Strips slowly the sandless skin
Of the soul
Gentle balm of the wide Spirit
Settling upon the surface
Singing a song of suppleness
Message of the mindful reflection
From the internal mirror
Of the heart
Home to the fruitful Spirit
Residence of the restoring, loving kindness
Of the refreshing riverside
Where solace comes, pacifying
With the sounds trickling and dancing
Over cool stones of thought

Chirping of birds,
Dancing of trees,
At the riverside.
Foaming of the seawater,
Such nature, heals broken souls.
Early dawn,
At the riverside.
The rising sun, raises its hand.
And sends the smile,
Of smiling waves.
Such nature, heals people,
Through its lone vibe.
And connects them, naturally.
No social media,
To connect us with lust,
Caption, and emotion.
Off the camera,
Let's wind through the wind,
Slowly caressing your waist beads.
Calmly sit, on my Mercedes Benz.
Let's insanely drive, on the beach.

Romance
Is in the air
Let's dance
Among
Cherry blossoms
So young
Willow
Branches shelter
Love's glow

If you feel all of a dither
Go and sit quietly by a river
Take a book and a tipple
Listen to the river ripple
Take a sip and a peaceful read
You may find this is all you need

ON RIVERSIDE
Come My Dear under the shady tree
on riverside of Ganges on frolic flow.
Sit beside and look at me in glee
My glances will sink in your glances to glow.
Come My Dear under the azure sky
on beautiful bank where the Ganges flow
Speak and open your love, don’t feel shy.
My eager ears to listen though voice is low.
Come My Dear on quiet riverside
where glorious gracious river Ganges flow
We two lovers to sail on boat ride.
Little brittle ripples will dance:I will row.
Come My Dear where cooing doves make love
on lonely riverbank where the Ganges flow.
Cheerful chirping sparrows to observe.
Outstanding conflict between cuckoo and crow.
Come My Dear on river quay where wonderful Ganges flow,
Hesitant crescent Moon to spread beam dim drowsy pale yellow.

“ETHIOPE RIVERSIDE”
[BY OHWOJEVWE ESE GANIYU]
How come
We once paddled our canoe
Along river Ethiope
And nobody saw us
Come and go
Till tides come
When sweet memories
Of Ethiope riverside
We cannot remember
Is it those delta bitches
At the river motel
It is those water baths
Where we saw people
Pulled into the river
Drowned in the river
Dive into the river
Whose waterbed you see
From the riverside
Of Ethiope river
Hence they tell
Their natives
Not to go to their river
When tis tides
To mark the annual
Drowning in the festival
Where mother Ethiope
Must swallow alive
One internet book seeker
Whose immersion is alive
While their resurrection
Is stone dead
Half breathing
Half dying
From the waveless flow
Of the waters
At Ethiope riverside.

Footnote: I actually did work for the Riverside a long time ago. My Supervisor "Jim" challenged me to write a poem with the word "propensities" in it. So I proceeded to look up that word and did this poem. It is not the first poem I ever written but it is the first poem to appear anywhere in print. I walk down a trail off the beaten path
Contemplating life’s equations, trying to solve its math
I sit down by the riverside, the breeze blowing through my hair
I find rest on a slab of stone, using it as a chair
I sit alone in the woods and start to think out loud
Sitting and admiring the woods, the sun, the clouds
I sit and question everything from life, to religion, and love
Searching hard for answers as I stare at the sky above
Time didn’t seem to move and only did stand still
Focusing on breathing, breathe out and then refill
It was in this moment, I found an epiphany
The answers run few and the questions run many
And you may never answer all the questions you may have
But having a sense of purpose, this confusion it will salve
Having mine, peace is now the place where I reside
I found my peace on that day, sitting by the riverside

Riverside, the house
had long windows,
the sort you step outside
My reflection from the outside,
and if I really stared
I could see into the rooms.
Chairs mainly,
with old Alzheimer people
waiting to die
Occasionally they would see me staring,
and would wave gregariously
from another age

Note - Periods were deliberately left out, but one was
needed after "rooms".

As I sat on the plank
All alone at the riverbank
I listened to the birds chirp
Flapping their wings as they fly
Like armies, they formed lines in the sky
As I enjoyed my solitude
With my feet in the flowing water
I couldn’t help but wonder
If the trees loved the cool breeze as I did
For it brought life to everything
As I took a walk around
I loved the sound of the leaves under my feet
And for a while we made music
I looked at the glowing rock
Under the heat of the sun
It was bright and beautiful
And for that moment, everything was still
And all that mattered was the beauty of nature

Cherished by many desperate with no joy
Within the heartbeat of exclamatory rough homeboy
Finds peace too merry and blue sky solitary
Walking on all four and not seen as he tarry
Clothes wet with sweat and thwacked toes overlaid
Feels beaten, tired, sleepy, baked and guilty afraid
None by to elevate him hence
And missing a lot to commence
Only alive for a borrowed time
Regrets poverty a giant crime
Fights the inner frustrations she intends at ease
Marries a toothy refuge and breaks it to meeting this peace
At a waterless shore he withholds the power he sought
In friendless state, pale, unwise, and dug minds wrought
And no more feels seated on or carried like garbage and thrown away
Always find choice in what you love and not be met halfway
Trace brightly your footsteps if you can
But run away from them and accomplish a life span
