Best Riverside Poems
Sometimes the dry desert wind
Strips slowly the sandless skin
Of the soul
Gentle balm of the wide Spirit
Settling upon the surface
Singing a song of suppleness
Message of the mindful reflection
From the internal mirror
Of the heart
Home to the fruitful Spirit
Residence of the restoring, loving kindness
Of the refreshing riverside
Where solace comes, pacifying
With the sounds trickling and dancing
Over cool stones of thought

I walk down a trail off the beaten path
Contemplating life’s equations, trying to solve its math
I sit down by the riverside, the breeze blowing through my hair
I find rest on a slab of stone, using it as a chair
I sit alone in the woods and start to think out loud
Sitting and admiring the woods, the sun, the clouds
I sit and question everything from life, to religion, and love
Searching hard for answers as I stare at the sky above
Time didn’t seem to move and only did stand still
Focusing on breathing, breathe out and then refill
It was in this moment, I found an epiphany
The answers run few and the questions run many
And you may never answer all the questions you may have
But having a sense of purpose, this confusion it will salve
Having mine, peace is now the place where I reside
I found my peace on that day, sitting by the riverside

Riverside, the house
had long windows,
the sort you step outside
My reflection from the outside,
and if I really stared
I could see into the rooms.
Chairs mainly,
with old Alzheimer people
waiting to die
Occasionally they would see me staring,
and would wave gregariously
from another age

Note - Periods were deliberately left out, but one was
needed after "rooms".

Riverside,
I was wonder how anglers do sleep on sandy at the riverside
One time in my life, I try when I was ten year as trying it
At my best though it is was not easily
I slept while my hands are on my ears
I fear sand entering into my ears as I hear, people whispering to each other ears
Riverside,
It is the best place for water body creatures
It is because of its environment
It makes them to run fast and laid eggs and bury them
Yes, it is on the sand is where water creatures like crocodile
They laid their
Riverside
It is where boys and girls can see each other’s
In our riverside no mixing when playing crocodile play
For that game is for boys but not girls
Only boys knew the best part of it but girls
Can be enjoy speed that boys use
Riverside
It is the best to expose you for other
I see the brave do
But coward people fear to join groups
I learn good thing on it as we end up enjoying the sunshine
Riverside
At winter, we all need sunshine and the sun make us to roasted like smoke fish
It is why we are darken in our skins
We get our darkness at the riverside
Because it is dark and that is why sings songs
Yes, to let darkness go and we remain as black like black sea

Limerick
As we walk along the riverside
A sound of the innocences of melody
The waters that sing to the naked ear
The colour of finest crystal sparkles to the eye
Stepping stones like a puzzle to cross the waters path
Its beauty reflected against the surrounding sky
Nature's truth does not lie its simplest desired to all admire
Its standing soldiers of wood around the scene
Like a border of a frame the picture is painted to any naked eye
With branches like arms they are embracing your mind
Each breeze sweeps past the leaves like the last dance
United as they tango in delight against the coming night
The whisper of your imagination as the stars shine
The guide of the moon as it now becomes defined
The scene is mothers earth its magical trance binds you
A freedom crosses your spirit your soul is at one
Your thoughts can not be undone
A enchanted mind has been restored as you opened the door to completeness
A secret world of beauty of all divine sights even in the darkest of night
As we walk along the riverside...

BY THE RIVERSIDE
As I sat by the riverside,
Calm and running wild
Deep inside of me, waves clash
Sabre-rattling for supremacy
As I sat by the riverside,
Blurred images, fleeting past
Renaissance, reminiscence
Pruning past histories
As I sat by the riverside,
A macabre dance of swords
Flash of imagery

Cherished by many desperate with no joy
Within the heartbeat of exclamatory rough homeboy
Finds peace too merry and blue sky solitary
Walking on all four and not seen as he tarry
Clothes wet with sweat and thwacked toes overlaid
Feels beaten, tired, sleepy, baked and guilty afraid
None by to elevate him hence
And missing a lot to commence
Only alive for a borrowed time
Regrets poverty a giant crime
Fights the inner frustrations she intends at ease
Marries a toothy refuge and breaks it to meeting this peace
At a waterless shore he withholds the power he sought
In friendless state, pale, unwise, and dug minds wrought
And no more feels seated on or carried like garbage and thrown away
Always find choice in what you love and not be met halfway
Trace brightly your footsteps if you can
But run away from them and accomplish a life span

Verse
When I appear there Nature seems to
Dance and dance and dance,
When I disappear she is prone to
Weep and weep and weep.
Withdraws all clouds from sky to set a
Splendid scenery,
So that me rising from the river
Afresh may there espy.
Whether it sun or shower or snow or
Storm, when I arise
To set my arms, the setting Sun
Certainly will be there.
Women who go to the river for bathing
Choose my choicy time,
So that there they may bathe in warm and
Yellow sunshine time.
Now here a plant blossoms and blooms and
Soon another there,
Here Spring is reappearing, with her
Bring all beauties back.
Nature is dancing with her rhythmic
Steps and divine smile,
Why can't I row a boat here swaying
To and fro on waves?
The valleys wear their flowery carpets,
And the mountains are
Once again clad in colours, such this
Sylvan scene is set.
White cranes are there always on serene
Haunted islets sit,
Or stand by whiter cows there grazing
O'er the lushy green.
Suppose some Beauty glance and dance in
This wild atmosphere,
Then surely that's a dance to see, when
Mother Nature dance.
So Nature takes the pen out of my
Hands and writes for me,
May that there me, the clouds and cranes and
Cows and waves witness.
On cloudy days, practically there will be no sun to see. But it was my insistence that when I rise up after bathing in the river and look up to the sky, the sun should be there in the western horizon for me to worship. If it is a heavy raining day, I will select the time to go to the river according to when the rain will have a possibility of abating. Even on the heaviest raining days in the east, nature is benevolent enough to uncover sun at least for a few seconds. I will select this time to rise up from the river with my eyes closed and fervently wishing for father sun to be there when I open my eyes. With closed eyes when we look westward, standing river fresh, I don't know what makes it happen but the sun will always be there though sometimes be for only a few seconds. It is like this life-giver listens to fervent wishes of his off-springs and grants them.

Light Verse
As I sat on the plank
All alone at the riverbank
I listened to the birds chirp
Flapping their wings as they fly
Like armies, they formed lines in the sky
As I enjoyed my solitude
With my feet in the flowing water
I couldn’t help but wonder
If the trees loved the cool breeze as I did
For it brought life to everything
As I took a walk around
I loved the sound of the leaves under my feet
And for a while we made music
I looked at the glowing rock
Under the heat of the sun
It was bright and beautiful
And for that moment, everything was still
And all that mattered was the beauty of nature

Verse
Independence Day has come and gone....
All magic has been trucked away to come again another day
Sweltering, yet, in the dewy lawn,
is the fragrance of burnt offerings....
hovering low like a old gray ghost,
vast over the Riverside Park
In the still, early dawn, that now murmurs like a whisper...
Where evening throngs and
voices of oohs and aahhs were heard just hours before...
Where excited eyes glistened and reflected a night's sky alive with fire
A solemn morning of chattering squirrels
remain the only sign of life
as they nibble on pieces of hot dogs, or popcorn hiding in the grass
Morning air is cool and damp
Park benches, a bandstand, hilly mounds of grass and a playground
abandoned, barren and lonely...
The day appears to be wearing mourning clothes
Of candy wrappers, watermelon rinds, mustard coated paper plates
spent sparklers, fire crackers, one lone sneaker....
Where hours ago, radios played, laughter, cheering, hooting, jeering,
deafening man-made thunder made babies cry,
dogs tremble, children clap their hands over ears
Now there sprawls a silent, somber dawn
The only music in early morning light...
comes from a slight breeze that stirs
a tossed Pepsi paper cup
as it clatters a pop, pop, popping tune...
hopping among the dried, brown leaves down an empty sidewalk....

Footnote: I actually did work for the Riverside a long time ago. My Supervisor "Jim" challenged me to write a poem with the word "propensities" in it. So I proceeded to look up that word and did this poem. It is not the first poem I ever written but it is the first poem to appear anywhere in print. Independence Day is over
A sweltering night has been gathered up and trucked away
The faint fragrance of burnt offering still hangs low
....like sweat, of a long, grey cloak.
The park still echos with faint "ooooh's" and "ahhhs"...
lingering in the sultry air,
and bouncing off the silent bandstand
If you try, you can almost hear the High School band,
playing tributes to Souza and the homeland flag
Where eyes glistened and reflected a night sky alive with fire
now, the only sounds are chattering squirrels,
as they scurry and nibble on remants of a celebratory feast,
hiding in the dewy grass
The morning air is cool and the ground is damp
Park benches, the bandstand, hilly mounds of grass and playgrounds
abandoned, save of their mourning clothes
Of candy wrappers, watermelon rinds, mustard coated paper plates
Spent sparklers, fire crackers, a lone sneaker...
Where just hours ago..music from radios, laughter, cheering, hooting, jeering
Deafening man-made thunder made babies cry
dogs tremble, children clap their hands over ears
Now so silent in this early somber morn
The only sound this morning
comes from a slight breeze that stirs....
a tossed Pepsi paper cup....
as it clatters a pop, pop, popping tune...as it hops
among the dried, brown leaves down a hot, empty sidewalk...
