Dreams Of ‘Papa’

Burning fat
off your soul
with each word
that he wrote

Every vision
a banquet
to swallow
or choke

In the ring
or arena
with blood
boiling high

A man greets
the dragon
with hello
— or goodbye

(Dreams Of Papa: May, 2025)

Sins Of Omission

Intending
to deceive
with words
unsaid
In your
silence
truth denied

What’s stays
on mute
voiced in
your head
Its
intention
— vilified

(Dreamsleep: May, 2025)

Smyllum Park

The great
deceivers
hope and affection
Leave you
a foundling
an orphan of joy
As twins
they’re conscripted
in fields of abandon
Where life takes
no solace
and heartache
— deploys

(Dreamsleep: May, 2025)

Into The Breach

Every war
is different
Every war’s
the same
Bullets fly
and soldiers die
With valor
— to rename

(Dreamsleep: May, 2025)

Crossing Over

A whispered dare
a final vow
the Rubicon behind

New Light ahead
through smoke and blood
the final victim — time

(Dreamsleep: May, 2025)

The lonely only.

Premium Member sitting in Cousins Park

I usually give my dogs a treat in Cousin’s Park
This is where my grandchildren once played.
It has a fort, two slides, a swingset, and other kid stuff.
The grandchildren have outgrown it.

I should rename this Dog Park.
But we have a metal sign that says Cousin’s Park.
I don’t want to take that away from the grandchildren.
Sometimes they come up here and goof around.
Pretending they are little again.

Today I popped the lid off the treat tub.
My puppy pushed his head inside, so I could not see.
Dragged things of mine out of it.
My older dog waited. He is more polite.
They both know there are treats in here.

I am glad the raccoons have not found them yet.
I know they would have no trouble whipping off this plastic lid.
I give each dog a treat and settle down to write.
I write ten poem a day up here.

While we’re renaming things,
can we please rename “United States” to “AAAmerica.”
I know I’m tired of scrolling to the bottom of every pop-down country list.
And ARE we united? Really, even a little?

That awkward moment when you’re already said, “what?” three times,
and you still have no idea what the conversation is about, but you can tell,
by bouncy and eager expressions, that the topic is loaded. Never sit at the end of a table, dining halls get noisy.

Has a song ever been your safe place?
What if it keeps you warm in a storm,
by getting you up and movin’?

Oh, what about the inimitable effect of a handsome guy?
Now, I don’t engage in decorous affections,
but ‘Cute Soccer Guy’ (I’ve mentioned him before),
wakes us up, by just showing up, oh, we play it lose,
and all, but he makes all of our hearts beat a little faster.

A song for this:

And remember there are no stupid questions

What do you call a musician that’s good at magic?

Would an angry crucifix be cross?

Is the opposite of opposite the same?

Did the first day have a yesterday?

What is half of a hole?

If you rob a house through an ? open window
Is that just breaking?or breaking and not entering?

Do dogs know they are an anagram of God?

What does happinessess sound like

What is nothing made of?

How big is it?

Does it have edges?

If all the chickens died would the rename to just
Kentucky Fried?

Charles the lumberjack cut logs out of the trees
is easier to say

It’s only the past if something comes after it

Why does sunlight entice cats?

If there are other inhabited planets will they have a concept of time or is that just us?

Earth
The only planet
Not named after a Greek God or Goddess

Is it too late for a re-naming?
Or do others care?

Being an air sign,
Earth seems rather dull to me

A dud of a name
I wish Mercury had not already been taken

Premium Member if we paint him red

the puppy was bigger than I expected.
Maybe twice as big.
My husband said “are you sure he is not two years old?”
The sellers said he would be five months old in a couple of weeks.
I was unsure myself, until the vet saw him.
I don’t want to fix him until he is a little older, he told me.
Bring him in in about two months.
This told me he is not two years old.
But he is much bigger than I thought he would be.
Forty-five pounds at less than five months.
A giant puppy.
If we paint him red we can rename him Clifford.

Premium Member bee shows off blue stripes

Bee came by to show off her blue stripes
It’s a process invented by Gnome Putty McRipes.
Is it costly? Asked his favorite faerie friend.
Would be if you don’t have extra money to spend.
She tried to get the bee to tell her the price.
I’ll tell the lily, she said, if you rename me Fanny Brice.
This seemed weird but she was willing to do it.
I’m still not telling you, she said, causing a fit.

Premium Member Friendships Do Flourish

Well cross my eyes and call me Lucy
Met the sweetest lady of the group
She turns my crank, gets my motor a-racing
For poetry I don't give a poop

Should rename the site “Meet A Sweetie”
More appropriate don't ya think
This real cutie's on my mind the whole day
From her cup of nectar I drink

Age doesn't matter when it's a fantasy affair
Thirty years don't mean a thing
As long as our cravings are satisfied each day
The world continues to sing

Met a great big bunch of sweet ladies here
Not enough digits to count 'em
All I can say is my whole life's enriched
Each of these darlings is a gem

So this is my way of thanking youse guys
Where our creativity is nourished
Making all our lives a lot more worth living
Allowing friendships to flourish

Lunar Surprise

You can’t embrace
the moment forever
whose verity
at essence ungrained

By definition
it must rename itself
once mentioned
decried and disclaimed

What came upon you
to die in place
where vacuums exit
in time and space

Regenerating
from life’s cocoon
and starting over

Premium Member Rename It the Heartbreak Hotel

the owners decided to rename the honeymoon suites hotel
after so many marriages got off to a terrible start
two of the brides had died in their sleep the first night
the ghost of this place is howling as I type this, I know.

six grooms have jumped off the balcony to their deaths.
no, I am not inside a room typing this. I am across the street.
whatever is haunting that place is too intensely evil for me.
it should be the Heartbreak Hotel if you ask me.

You Don'T Have To Be Awake To Feel the Night Change

We meet, we talk, but I don’t know you.
Your eyes a flash of blue, bits of sky. I don’t
know how it came to be yours, the sky. Do you have
magic, that you command the very elements to
your being? I would like to be
yours as well. In the night’s deep quiet we will lie awake
and you will rename the stars, build new constellations to
fill me with awe and reverence. How safe I will feel
in your arms, by your side, whenever you say my name. The
monsters will cower, dazzled by your sky eyes shining so bright in the night.
As our seasons turn, will your skies change?
