Premium Member Critterature: Place Your Bets

A yak and a yeti made a bet
To see which one was the hairiest.
The yak was an ox,
And the yeti, no "fox",
Had already won as the scariest.
Neither had the allure
Of the latest coiffure,
They were unkempt and creasy and craggy.
Then a monk passing by
Judged the bet was a tie
For their coats were both equally shaggy.
Well, the yeti and yak were quite taken aback,
Each proclaiming that she was the winner,
Until Hetty the yeti settled the bet
By having al dente lama and yak for her dinner!

Premium Member Game On

Place your bets, you’re just in time
for the game, the fix is in.

What a thrill. Is it a crime to cash in?
The winners do, and that could be you.

You’ll be a witness, as wise guys smoothly step in
- it’s basic greed - and never a sin, as long as they win.

Mr slick ricky, you’ve got to be bold to win gold -
winners never just fold - betting never gets old.

The winners will add your few spare bucks to their pot -
let’s admit, all that you’ve got - isn’t a lot - it won’t fuel a yacht.

Place your bets, you’re in the front row all the time,
don’t be lame, be part of the game, the greasy bigtime.

NOTE: I LOVE NFL football, but now every commercial is for some sports book like “Draft Kings.” How can the NFL, increasingly in league with gambling books, not end up mobbed-up and fixed?
It’s ruining NFL football - the illusion that it’s a real sporting competition. I’ll tell you, Once they start calling the NFL “entertainment” and not sports - it’s over - the game I once loved will be just like pro wrestling.

Rated R

The movie sounds intriguing;
R’s the letter it’s been rated.
The reasons for the rating
On the ads are clearly stated.

The first one that is mentioned,
Not surprisingly, is sex,
Which, in cinema for grown-ups
Is what everyone expects.

The second reason’s murder.
Certain viewers seem to mind
Any violence on screen; this one
They’d likely have declined.

The final rating rationale
Surprised me – place your bets!
If sex and murder didn’t scare you,
There are cigarettes!

Premium Member The Great Ejection of 2021

Welcome to America, the land of reality TV
We have pixie dust and unicorns and the dreaded killer bees
The epic climax of 2020 has now reached its end
But here comes 2021, hold my beer dear friend

The new year will start with a mighty midweek hump
Stay tuned for the great ejection of Donald J. Trump
Will this man concede and leave the White House in one piece?
Will he have a temper tantrum or try to hide with his magic fleece?

We’re in the lull before the storm, it’s time to reload and take a break
Did Joe Biden actually win or will the Donald just call it fake?
Will he return in four more years or realize his time here is done?
Will he hold up in his ivory towers or just pack his bags and run?

This country is in a mess, so place your bets and roll your dice
We’ve had four years of snake eyes and many thinking we’re not that nice
Our land has many hitch hikers and our skies are full of thumbs.
They are not all criminals and losers and not all worthless bums

Place Your Bets

at the start, it was to be competitor
choose only one corridor
or not to be there, or nowhere
and lose all what we plan for
who knows at the arrival maybe
there will be a seat to acquire
to bet on the right card you had to be vampire
to be nearby… in a paranoia
at two fingers to dive in the phobia
let’s be in a new world order
Never mind if it's led by a lobby
law is under the dictate of somebody
there will be no more 3rd War or Star War
to be or not to be will be the reason for to be
neither a state nor one politician
nor a future fighter like Martian
even well equipped or authoritarian
has believed it will be this question.
to be contemporary laic and lay
even communist or even gay
all united for not to be like
those whose religion prevents desire
from the priest to the traitor
no one will be neutral
some have understood
direction east they took
and started acting by fire
direction south-east they took
it’s there we have to light the pyre?

For a Little While

I was a catcher
"for a little while"
I did alright
The whole story
is "for a little while"
   as day become night
I have been a loyal fan
of the NY Mets
So place your bets
As last season they held first base
"for a little while"
Things are not always what they seem to be
Often they are not
As the NY fans fill the stands
Hoping for the best
from their favorite team
Too many innings full of zeros
So put out your popcorn
and your beer
For the Metropolitans are here !
Only "for a little while"
And a home game will make us smile

The Count Down

The first drink is to calm the shakes
The second one to help erase
This retched life that I can't face
All because of my drinking days

The third one to take off the edge
The forth is more to help forget
All I said and all I did
When I downed that one drink left

The fifth makes me foolishly think I can
The sixth helps slur what words are left
Where all of this will end up at
Word to the wise, don't place your bets

The seventh turns into a cry for help
While the eighth one helps itself
On the ship that has set sail
Upon this demon liquids constant swell

After nine I can't remember why
Ten to see I'm legally blind
After all of this you would think I'd find
A better way to spend my time

The Duality of Man

The Duality of Man

Black and blue.
False or true.
Heaven or Hell?
Me or you?
Life or death?
Loud or mute.
Do we keep our eyes closed?
Or do we see a way through?

Hot or cold?
Tea or chocolate?
Coca Cola = Subconscious adverts.
Roll the dice and place your bets!
Be alone all the time,
Or name a pet.

Do what you like,
Or what you are told.
Do you love Him? Or Her?
Decide before you are too old.
Be one of the common people,
Or break the mold.
Make your own choices.
Do you stay or do you go?

Work for the state (of mind), if you have the time.
Remain independent, or change your mind.
The NHS is the best!
You could choose private.
Pick up a gun or a pen…
Grow up or remain a kid.

Life is about choices, so I choose life.
Life is too short to be worrying about time.
Reinvent yourself as many times as you like.
With every day there is a new age,
So why not smile,
Instead of cry.

Betting On Pipe Dreams

Roll up, Roll up and place your bets,
Before the sun sets,
And you still have debts.

Which will run out first,
The water that runs through old pipes, waiting to burst,
Or the money that some say is cursed,
That could prevent the need for a Hurst.

Roll up, roll up and place your bets,
Before the moon rises,
Along with your debts.

Will the food chain be broken,
Or will technology have spoken,
And self-interest be forgotten.

Roll up, roll up and place your bets,
Or if you are smarter than the rest,
In pipes and dreams you will invest.

It's Up To You

It's up to you...
in how you do it
It's up to you...
in how you live
It's up to you...
if you never knew it
It's up to you...
in what you give
It's up to you...
to smile through it
It's up to you...
hit or miss
It's up to you...
save or lose it
It's up to you...
how deep you dig
It's up to you...
in how you play it
It's up to you...
in how it's kept
It's up to you...
in how you say it
It's up to you...
in where you step
It's up to you...
in how you spin it
It's up to you...
how you place your bets
It's up to you...
from the beginning
It's up to you...
until your death
It's up to you...

The House Always Wins

This soft cotton bedspread,
Clings to me like comfortable armor,
Shielding from the world outside my solace,
My one haven,
This diamond in the rough,
In the metaphorical minefield called family life.

Place your bets please..

Who really holds the winning hand,
What do you gain from trust,
Who do you stand to loose,
You or them,
Same old tricks new disguise
Ace of Guilt and the Jack of Deception

The Rag Trade

"Headline news! The rag trade is torn to pieces!
Dolls are strewn across the streets with skirts lifted high.
Headline news! Markets are buzzing with voracious bees;
Stinging for honey, for money to burn. Sly.

May I escort you sir to higher gains? Just feed the slot
Machine coffers with offers of fine dining and lustful desires.
Become bloated and coated, botched and scotched
And drink embers mellow as you repast by the fire!

Suits you sir! That suit should fake them and shake them,
For you look a right toff and in those two tone brogues
None can guess and think anything less of you and your suit
That is pin striped and blue. Welcome to 'Cafe Rogues'.

Are you a gambler sir? Do you place your bets well?
Do you prefer evens or odds or don't you give a sod?
There are no consciences here sir! We'll take your money
And spend it on honey and fine clothes by God!

Paper!paper! Read all about it, headline news!
Dolls are found in alleyways torn to shreds!
Escorts are fattened calves ready for the slaughter!
Suited toff is found dying in Savile Row gutter!

Gambling money spinner wins. Camera closes the shutter.

Travail

TRAVAIL

place your bets then roll dice twice
test the tale of death and life
call forth a need for God
plains of trust not doubt
pray tell us please
as it is
fill my

needs…

where that
sad heart bleeds
like stale sick jokes
that form the march
to raise pure white flags
in time like dark dire rhyme
lift me out of my own ways
up to the light that plays my soul

A River Boat Gambler

With wit and wisdom and a cunning eye...
At the gaming table Naomi goes on a natural high.

She mulls the odds and places her bet...
And she's never been a loser yet.

With nerves of steel and a will to win...
And a reputation she's eager to defend.

A River Boat gambler is the life for her...
And those who know her all concur.

She sits at the table with emotions of steel...
And if there is to be a winner, she will.

So place your bets and enjoy the scene...
Because when Naomi is gambling she's cunning and mean.
