In the dog days of summer, the kids discover a decrepit house and the old man (Rentaro Mikuni) who lives there alone.
— Zac Ntim, Deadline, 4 Feb. 2025
He was an old decrepit man, was he not?
His clothes tattered; his trousers held by a knot.
Few rooms: a chair, a table and rotten cot.
He lived in an old ruined house, full of rot.
His clothes tattered; his trousers held by a knot.
He ate sparsely of some fish he sometimes bought.
He lived in an old ruined house, full of rot.
Rarely some good older soul, some meat she brought.
He ate sparsely of some fish he sometimes bought.
Winter was too cold whilst summer was too hot.
Rarely some good older soul, some meat she brought.
Children loved his stories and explained each thought.
Winter was too cold, whilst summer was too hot.
Few rooms. a chair, a table and rotten cot.
Children loved his stories he explained each thought.
He was an old decrepit man, was he not?

Welcome Frisky to your new home
Where happiness you’ll bring.
You’ll tug and catch and jump and roam,
And children’s hearts will sing.
Where happiness you’ll bring,
You’ll tug a rope and catch some bees,
And children’s hearts will sing.
You’ll catch the cat who likes to tease.
You’ll tug a rope and catch some bees,
And maybe when you’re still a pup,
You’ll catch the cat who likes to tease,
But then we’ll all grow up.
And maybe when you’re still a pup,
Laughing kids will chase you down the street,
But then we will all grow up
And forget to let you eat.
Laughing kids will chase you down the street.
Then they’ll desert you in your yard
And forget to let you eat.
Howling alone at night in pain is hard.
Then they’ll desert you in your yard.
To the great beyond you’ll now ascend.
Howling alone at night in pain is hard.
You were our best friend to the end.
To the great beyond you’ll now ascend.
You’ll tug and catch and jump and roam.
You were our best friend to the end.
Welcome Frisky to your new home.
The kids are just fine
On this Wednesday eve
Our lives intertwine
Until one takes leave
On this Wednesday eve
We huddle in the waste
Until one takes leave
From this bombed-out place
They’re readied for school
Packed up for the day
Ballet class in tule
Then we hurry away
Packed up for the day
The evacuations begin
Then we hurry away
From the siren’s din
Distraught by expectations
Life’s daily demands
Guiding child’s aspirations
Mold their lives in our hands
Life’s daily demands
From missiles, we flee
Mold lives in our hands
As we dodge the debris
We discuss the whole day
Watch the news, sip our wine
In lands far away
We witness war’s crimes
Huddled in lost places
We assess the whole day
Do they hear us, or see us, or know us
In lands far away?
Screaming kids flourish through the hall,
Dreaming kids escape from their spot,
While dreary teachers scream in a brawl
Between pupils taking their shot.
Dreaming kids escape from their spot
Searching for freedom that seldom sails
Between pupils taking their shot
While yearning for peace that prevails
Searching for freedom that seldom sails,
Such souls try so hard in silence
While yearning for peace that prevails
Amidst the old sinners’ ‘violence’
Such souls try so hard in silence
Persuading teachers to lose their voice
Amidst the old sinners’ violence
Nonetheless, that’s solely their choice
Persuading teachers to lose their voice,
The only thing children can do.
Nonetheless, that’s solely their choice
Or is it the teachers’ choice too?
Those pesky leaves adored by youth.
Hued leaves and wind, a conjoined twin.
Autumn flurry of windswept sooth.*
Kids harvest fell-wings, to jump in.
Hued leaves and wind, a conjoined twin.
The twirl, the whirl of crimson red.
Kids harvest fell-wings, to jump in.
Crisp yellow, brown and purple fed.
The twirl, the whirl of crimson red.
Six feet deep, each yard grows fatter.
Crisp yellow, brown and purple fed.
When swept in piles, they oft’ scatter.
Six feet deep, each yard grows fatter.
Autumn flurry of windswept sooth.
When swept in piles, they oft’ scatter -
Those pesky leaves adored by youth.

AUTUMN UNTOLD STORY
Sense the tiny bite of crispness in the air
September ends and school again begins
Crows on the telegraph lines just stare
The old guy at the corner leans and grins
September ends and school again begins
The parents’ Volvos wait to drop and go
The old guy at the corner leans and grins
For a reason that most will never know
The parents’ Volvos wait to drop and go
Kids with an emotional burden to carry
For a reason that most may never know
Walking past the man and never tarry
Kids with an emotional burden to carry
Not yet acute enough to raise concerns
Walking past the man and never tarry
The memory of that encounter burns
Fleshy; juicy; luring cherry, blood-red
Stone within it, though hard, never does hurt
Kids to toothless old goes chewing ahead
Adding with fruits and salads as dessert
Stone within it, though hard, never does hurt
Heart-shaped; looks as though bleeding endlessly
Adding with fruits and salads as dessert
One could go on eating it zealously
Heart-shaped; looks as though bleeding endlessly
Kids to toothless old goes chewing ahead
One could go on eating it zealously
Fleshy; juicy; luring cherry, blood-red

Loveliest memories the kids couldn’t eyewitness
When browsing their father’s tab, found a folder
The new couple were swapping the looks of sweetness
Fascinated with the scintillating moments of sober
When browsing their father’s tab, found a folder
Cognized, it was the wedlock ceremony of their parents.
Fascinated with the scintillating moments of sober
Giggled and watched till the end with adherence.

Giggled and watched till the end with adherence.

Her charisma unique, her glory graceful
Magic of seasons magnifies her majesty
Her soul pure, pristine and powerful
Her eyes reflect hues of life for eternity
Magic of seasons magnifies her majesty
As Nature endures her kids with forbearance
Her eyes reflect hues of life for eternity
She is the embodiment of perseverance
As Nature endures her kids with forbearance
Warm and cosy in mother's lap, joy overflows
She is the embodiment of perseverance
When her kindred spirit glistens and glows
Warm and cosy in mother's lap, joy overflows
Her soul pure, pristine and powerful
When her kindred spirit glistens and glows

My father hung a swing from the old oak tree,
a present for his grand kids to enjoy.
The swing was such a pleasant sight to see
and was my children’s best loved, cherished toy.
A present for his grand kids to enjoy,
it's weathered with the time and shows its age
and was my children’s best loved cherished toy
when they were at the backyard swinging stage.
Its weathered with the time and shows its age,
still holding many memories within
when they were at the backyard swinging stage
and I still hear the laughter see the grins.
Still holding many memories within
I think back on the days that long since passed
and I still hear the laughter see the grins.
If you could only cause good times to last.
I think back on the days that long since passed.
The swing was such a pleasant sight to see.
If you could only cause good times to last.
My father hung a swing from the old oak tree.

My porch swing is a special place
where past and present intersect.
As I sway at a peaceful pace,
on days of childhood I reflect.
Where past and present intersect,
with eyes closed I soon drift away.
On days of childhood I reflect.
I see three happy kids at play.
With eyes closed I soon drift away,
I think of yards with rope-held swings.
I see three happy kids at play
on carefree days the summer brings.
I think of yards with rope-held swings.
as I sway at a peaceful pace.
On carefree days the summer brings,
my porch swing is a special place.

Remember when we were young, you and I
Bit of boyish mischief we used to cause
The swearing, pushing, shoving, and punches
We'd put on the charm when it came to mom
Bit of boyish mischief we used to cause
You, big brother, I followed and looked up to
We'd put on the charm when it came to mom
Inseparable, we stood by one another
You, big brother, I followed and looked up to
We went our different paths as we grew
Inseparable, we stood by one another
I miss the fun times when we were kids
We went our different paths as we grew
The swearing, pushing, shoving, and punches
I miss. The fun times when we were kids
Remember when we were young, you and I

A plain Pantoum not a rhyming pantoum
Contest Name PANTOUM
Sponsored By: Line Gauthier
February 10, 2020 POTD
Typically a pantoum is made up of two rhyming couplets, however, Western writers altered and adapted the form, the importance of rhyming and brevity diminished. So, pantoums do not need to rhyme.
Frosty and Santa are kids Christmas dreams
Wishes of Santa's sleigh with gifts galore
Adults Celebrate with family themes
Frosty the snowman everyone adores

Christmas trees sparkle with tiny bright lights

Kids dreaming of their gifts Christmas eve night
Christmas trees sparkle with tiny bright lights
Adults toast with red wine, sing and spread cheer

Everyone feels the Christmas spirit here

Trick or Treat
(Ghosts)
These ghosts have walked the streets before,
their hollow eyes embarking for the light;
the streets are glad they’re here once more,
going house to house at night.
Their hollow eyes embarking for the light —
Adults beside the sheets that they once wore
going house to house at night
are filled with life by ghosts they so adore.
Though the candy’s not for them tonight,
the streets are glad they’re here once more;
the owls have left their porch light bright.
These ghosts have walked the streets before.

Here comes the christmas in the town
The sun warmly greets the long nights
Stars are formed like a shining crown
Houses are filled with Christmas lights
The sun warmly greets the long nights
Cold winds penetrates deep inside
Houses are filled with Christmas lights
Kids are singing carols outside
Cold winds penetrates deep inside
Togetherness gives warm as fire
Kids are singing carols outside
Dress of love is the main attire
Togetherness gives warm as fire
People are immune to sadness
Dress of love is the main attire
Its a gift that brings happiness
Everyone will anticipate
Stars are formed like a shining crown
The king lives and we celebrate
Here comes the Christmas in the town
