Premium Member The Why and Wherefore of Tears

We learnt not to cry
keep hearts guarded under sleeves
eyes learn not to spill
for solace comes at a cost
when feelings are best unsaid.

Body knows the truth
eyes brim before we know why
throat clenches; words choke
we blink hard and turn away
buying time to face ourselves.

Tears can blur the truth
joy and grief can look alike
eyes speak without words
strangers may misread their cause
even we may not know why.

Tears swell against walls
the guarded well spills over
there's no calling back
buried cracks burst wide open
bringing the whole dam wall down.

The years taught restraint
stand firm and hold back the flood
with courage and will
hiding where the cracks may lie
release is revelation.

Nameless Child

She was just a nameless child,
chasing herself through borrowed faces
Looking for little pieces of home
in unfamiliar places

Some passed hope from hand to hand,
some passed fear the same
Funny how two fires can look alike,
still burn a different flame

She carried stories on her back,
some she’d keep, some she’d lose
Growing ain’t the roads you’re shown,
it’s learning what to choose

The loud all swore they knew her heart
the quiet rarely cared
Yet every soul she wandered through
left something with her there

She found tomorrow in foreign smiles,
and sorrow in familiar eyes
Turns out truth don’t wear one face,
it’s scattered in disguise

Maybe that’s what growing is,
not proving someone right,
but finding her little miracle area…
In those soul-searching lessons
gave her the courage
to name herself…

Premium Member When Jack Frost pops up

Jack Frost may bite one's fingers, nose and toes
but he's an artist, as everyone knows
Decorating windows and hedgerows
adding glitz and glamour to winter's rose.

Jack Frost only appears in wintertime
inspiring poet's poetic rhythm and rhyme
Doesn't earn a penny, or even a dime
never changing, Jack is still in his prime.

Once, in my garden, Jack Frost did appear
made a bush look alike a chandelier
I'll not forget, the memory so dear
that lives on in my mind from year to year.

Jack Frost’s filigree is pure poetry
with that I expect most folk would agree.

Lyrics

Lyrics come to me by moonlight
When the power of darkness lessens
When whispers soften like overripe
Mangoes dispatched hurriedly from India,
On ramshackle East Indiamen vessels
Sailing fruitfully through consternated
Waters and heated lines of the tropics,
Selling rewardingly on busy markets
Charged with the power of buy-and-sell,
And order-and-supply.
I wonder how Bob would react to
My girlfriend’s long and big, sexy hair
Blowin’ in the wind,
Seeking answers to horizon-tossed questions,
When howling, racing gales accompany
Frightened sorrel horses, newly freed from
Spavins, and spiked by the energy of the sun,
Hurtle home happily towards old and battered
Picket fences newly mended?
I write often under the spell of night rain,
Striving much not to blend lyrics with poems,
Which, like zucchini and cucumber,
May look alike but are quite different.
I stumble upon the fraternity between words
And promises and splice them with soft, nimble
Fingers of the piano.
Gentle taps yonder come from happily sobbing congas.
And with an unseen ensemble, a song is born.

Premium Member The Illegal Alien Exchange Program

Just how many babies
Are swapped at birth
With a look alike other
That other being
Some demon or some
Illegal Alien exchange program
Being covertly done
Right under our very noses
In broad daylight
In maternity wards worldwide

I should know
Being born with bi-fid thumbs
And six toes on each foot
Yet, it has to be my sister
She's wicked smart
Perhaps, too smart for her own good
And she has a big head
She’s got to be one

Of course, what’s a little culture shock too
Beings' stranger in a Strangeland
After walking the long long walk
Can’t even talk the strange talk
Seeking asylum from oppression
Seeking the land of Liberty
Feel free to wear their worn-out sandals
They’ll gladly trade for your Michael Jorden Nikes

Then again, maybe the exchange comes later
Some babysitter’s smuggling ring
Except she promises to turn your little rascal
Into an angel, for real
Still criminal but God ordained

Dreams Are Often Shattered by Reality

No one I know dreams of living out their days in a high-rise apartment complex fighting the congestion of some mega-metropolis traffic. Or lost among a complex of look-alike buildings and lethargic lives. Whenever most of us think about our happy place, our minds immediately go to a cottage on the bank of some lake surrounded by trees with their autumn-colored leaves rustling in a warm afternoon breeze. Or we dream of living on a small farm amidst rolling hills covered in green grass. Where cows and horses frolic under a majestic sunrise.

The grass is greener
where I live inside my dreams

Premium Member Have you seen the boobie

Have you seen the boobie? Asked Copper Mike to Steve McLiss.
Steve was horrified. Just one? What kind of woman is this?
Not a woman, but a platypus-look-alike, said instigator Mike.
She’s down by the red hibiscus cottage, want to take a hike?

They marched down the path, Steve, all excited ready to see
One boobie, and yet, he saw not one, but three.
And they were blue-footed boobys, not a boobie at all.
He stalked back to his barracks angry, right before mess call.

Premium Member Oh, Forgive Me - SHM

"just the other day, I came across a picture of you with your horse,
and I was amazed to see how much we look alike: could it be true that
you are just words upon cold stone; my beautiful and kind Jacqueline "

                                                               Quote by _Constance

Mom, I pray forgiveness as it was me,
I had to let go- it dwells in my mind;
it was me mother who said set her free,
I was the one who had papers to sign.

There was nothing I could do to change fate,
I would have mom, even given my life;
the decision so hard but could not wait,
my heart was stabbed with a sharp blood-soaked knife.

With each gasping, breath you took in this world,
I asked God is there nothing to be done?
I hated what had to be- it still whirls,
I asked God why I have to be the one?

Can you forgive me mom for letting go?
Mom, you were so kind and I loved you so.

had to let you go
and mom it still twirls and whirls ...
               a knife stabbed my heart

with each gasping I kept asking God- is there nothing that can be done

The Mother I Wish I Had

The mother I wish I had
Has soft and caring hands
She’s dedicated to her goals
And accept me as I am
At the beginning of the day she helps me with my hair
Tells me that I am beautiful
Just the way I am
The mother I wish I had
Goes out shopping with me
We drive and get milkshakes together
But for me, it’s only ever been a fantasy
The mother I wish I had
Stands up for others
She doesn’t let herself get walked over
And never backs down
When we walk into a room together
We’re told how much we look alike
Beautiful mother, beautiful daughter
Lovely all the same
The mother I wish I had
Doesn’t exist for me
By blood I’ve been abandoned
Never again to see
Blood may be thicker than water
But water cleanses my wounds
So thank you to the women
Who have been the mother I wish I had, to me

Premium Member One Last Dance

Sukkot isn't over quite yet
     One more festival left
by the name of Shemini Atzeret

No tabernacle, no esrog, no lulav
Jews just dance with the Torah
       ~ before God, dearly beloved

     _____________________________
Shemini Atzeret means the '8th Day
     Conclusion' (of Sukkot). The esrog
is a lemon look-alike (but sweet),
used along with the lulav, (a palm
     tree branch/frond) used in the
     synogague services throughout
     Sukkot.

A New Hope

Straddling waves, changing tides
Turbulent sea, bumpy ride
Still, the anchor holds
To destination progress

Wake up and smell the morning
It's the dawn of a new day
Clear blue sky, bright new morn
Sun smiling in sweet splendour

The aroma of a fresh hope
Greets the nose with lingering incense
Savour the dish
Dine and be full
Life is what we make of it

Arm yourself with knowledge and truth
Harm ignorance and falsehood
Salt and sugar look alike but
Taste different
Come with nothing
Fight for everything
Return with spoils

Like the spreading ripples
At the drop of a pebble
Life is but a riddle

Pampering With Pets

Golly gee. Eeks and yike
Pet and owner look alike
Having a perfect spa day
As the wrinkles fade away

Looking young again once more
Isn't such a horrid chore
With a mask upon the face
In a cozy comfy place

Relaxing with a snack or two
Nothing but the best for you
But carefully you must peel
Off the mask, or pain you'll feel

The Birds Or I

Who sings more, the birds or me?

From home to stage, from tree to cage

Take my pay, while the birds sing for free

That, no one, except GOD can change.

Who rocks more, the birds or me?

Two legs alone, is it the birds or i?

My steps, high or low, thousands can see

But birds, rocks, only when they fly.

I know, I sing for the world

But the birds sings for God.

Well still the birds and I

Sometimes we look alike

Though I can't fly

But I can, when my songs strikes.
