Premium Member Chains On The Gate

Each day is the same; we all sit here and wait,
listening for the sound of the chains on the gate.
You see, that’s our signal; that’s our cue;
that’s how we know what we're to do.
We all soon learn what each sound is for,
even before someone's open the door.
We get excited when the laundry is clean,
the high point of our week is the day we get canteen!
For an hour of TV, we all rush to line up;
even to take a shower we have to sign up.
Everyone gets quiet when they're doing mail call,
maybe good news for some, but not for all.
Yes, each day is the same, we all sit here and wait;
listening for that sound of the chains on the gate.
One day soon, they'll be sounding for me,
and I'll walk out these doors, finally free!

Premium Member Heydays and High Points

It’s the heyday of the preachers of doom
        nuclear paranoia, world goes boom

Open Season to generalize with closed eyes
        all righties -- fascists
        lefties -- commie drug addicts

It’s a high point for hate
         Blacks hate whites
         Whites return the favor
         Sophisticates choose
to hate Jews of every flavor

As for a President who’s made the borders secure again
and dealt a decisive blow to the loonies in Iran
          Half the country views him
          as a deranged, soon-to-be-jailed con

After a High Point

After a high point,
There’s no place to go
But back to the usual
Life that you know.

Good feelings may linger,
A satisfied air
Which, if you are lucky,
Will help you prepare

For the letdown to follow
That everyone knows
Happens after the high point –
That’s just how it goes.

Premium Member Memento on the moon

Leave the ground to fly upward forever
a quintillion atoms blasting astray
It’s April 20, Crack open an Easter egg
be careful not to drop, if a Fabergé

Celebrate Apollo 16, NASA’s high point
also light a candle down Columbine way
Luna doesn’t judge beyond her influence
so can’t be complicit in the price we pay

Deepwater horizon, fades into distance
not to mention some Dictator’s birthday
What marks a memento of lasting impact?
recurring dates in an almanac of ricochets?

Every once in a phase, flies by April 20
she turns her face, but cannot look away.

Man On A Roller Coaster Sonnet

It jolts and shakes as it carroms around,
my joints seethe at the pressure exerted,
it rips upward until high off the ground,
I hear the excited cries of my kid.
Oh, to be young, and has such a grand time,
to not feel pain lance as my brains shakes up,
nor to feel unnerved with every decline,
the stomach rises, holding back gets tough.
Up at a high point nearby hills flash by,
start to understand why folks get car-sick,
once things like this made me feel alive,
at least for my son it still does the trick.
We plunge and I hear a sound like thunder,
this was much more fun when I was younger…

Saint John

From High Point, he hailed
With his instrument, he had a
story to tell

Many pundits call him insane
But for those who know simply call
him Trane

His claim to fame was riding the galactic
ship of jazz
Pushing the status quo and exploring with
a whole lot of pizazz

But his earnest desire was to get to know a Love Supreme
Through Acknowledgement, Resolution, Pursuance, and
Psalms, his soul was able to gleam

Saint John, a quiet storm that blew with a serene
veracity
With Giant Steps, he walked through the world of jazz with a divine tenacity

Premium Member The Bridge

I take my daily stroll across the bridge
and at it's high point
I look down upon my possible demise

It's been four long years since I lost my love
she left me and broke my heart entirely
but I'm still a love in disguise

I think about jumping to my death
but am holding out for the hope
that one day again I'll look her in the eyes

Memories of her keep me alive
as she was my one and only true love
the beauty under the bright blue skies

But to have a hug once more
and to taste the saltiness of her lips
could only be my soughted prize

Will tomorrow be the day I jump
Or will she return her love to me
For this I hope to realize

Fallen

I've fallen to the ground so many times
That it's no longer my low
It's my high point,
From which I start all over again
Hoping that this time I'll get it right

Cause life has its twists and turns
And my turns are now my returns
Cause the pain in me is now words you hear
Words that console you when you in fear
For you understand how it feels

You understand what it feels like being at your lowest
When all you want is an escape
But your thoughts are too crowded you can't get through
So you stuck in your thoughts
Like a brain wreck

You understand how it feels losing hope
When the end that you were holding
Has already gone over the edge
And all you have with you is just you
But you also slipping

You slipping in and out
Hoping that somebody will find out
And come to your aid
Cause you afraid to ask for help
Only for them to laugh at you

I'd want to tell you
That even at your lowest
Try and reach out
Cause there's a hand out there that will catch you

Heaven Proclaimed

Be in awe of yourself,
ever struck with delight

Gift wrapping your thoughts,
in the goodness of life

Treasure the memories,
letting go of the pain

Releasing the wonder
—as Heaven proclaimed

Worthy Moments
By: Tom Wright
5/10/99

Of childhood times
and nursery rhymes.
Of being a teen
and the years in between.
That football game
my fleeting fame.
That first heart throb
seeking my first job.
When contemplating
double dating.
When first we kissed
and nearly missed.
Upon leaving home
and feeling alone.
Of riding a bus so far
later buying my first car.
of military times
the wedding chimes.
Of a wonderful spouse
then building my first house.
Of my search for wealth
and problems with health.
Then of Jesus, the Son
whom I made number one.
The high point of my life
then the next was my wife.
These are memories you see
and they still work for me.

Temptation Site

Temptation Site

Into the Wilderness
40 days, 40 nights
Ahungered, weak
The temptation site
He heard a voice
Look there, a stone
Command it bread
Your belly groans

Get thou behind me Satan
Your tempt I have heard
Not by bread alone
But by God's every word

So the word of God
Jesus already knows
This time maybe try
To twist how it goes
Behold this high point
To God's angels call
Afterall, God did say
He wouldn't let you fall

No Devil, it is written
The Lord thou shall not tempt
Get thou behind me Satan
You fail your second attempt

Hmmph, lets try this again
To a time and place we'll go
Great wealth, riches, goods
No one could possibly say no
On your knees Jesus
Just one time worship me
All that is in this world
It is mine, I'll give it all to thee

Get thou behind me Satan
God alone, him alone do I serve
Your sentence sealed
Your punishment reserved
It is only to God
To God I bow my knee
Third strike, your out
Satan, get thee behind me

And after this
Did the devil flee
Christ our Lord
Beginning his ministry
My hopes you've enjoyed
The view in which I write
Of Christ our Lord

Saint James the Fisherman Day

Saint James the Fisherman Day

Rohr family was nicest and kindest;
They had found it so hard to resist;
High point there,
They would share;
A new Episcopal Church does exist.

James Thomas Horn
Member of St. James Episcopal
As well as a retired veteran
Bolivia, NC

Church is currently located on
highest point in Shallotte, NC.
We are very thankful to Rohr family.

Messed up. Property was donated by

Coy To His Mistress

When two people fall in love,
there's one thing that they long to do.
It's true for birds and bees and doves,
and equally for me and you.
The pleasantest of loving deeds,
it's fed by, and in turn it feeds,
the fondness it's the symbol of.

Your life is in its golden prime -
drink now, or let the chalice pass.
We're all in thrall to spiteful Time -
enjoy your beauty while it lasts.
Say yes to love. It's death to dither.
The rose, once blown, can only wither.
From this high point, touch the Sublime.

You know the thing I'd have you choose!
   You understand my thrust precisely.
Who could refuse a lover who's
   petitioning your trust so nicely?
Slough off old skin of guilt and sin -
you win this game by giving in!
Come play with me. You cannot lose.

Interstellar

4/27/16

Fluctuations and changes in weather
Forever and ever
Together
Through whatever whenever wherever
For the better
Throughout any endeavors
And adventures
While above and below birds of the same and different feathers
Remember
I would never treat you lesser
Anytime anywhere whether it is or is not interstellar
Near or far away from motion sensors
And the range of any metal detectors

Regardless of if anything I wrote was read
Don't forget and respect what I said
I kid you not, look and think instead
But be sure to not lose your head
Over a trivial amount of bread
While the sky and clouds are colored red
As you stand your ground for what is right in order to keep your family fed

Since way back when
And until the end
Increases and decreases in rpm
At the low and high point of the bend

Many many men
Like to say it all depends
Often, instead of now and then
But it is nothing I'd recommend to myself, family or a friend

A Castle In the Sky

Ahh! First glimpse of my mansion!
What unexpected grandeur!
A glistening structure of elegance,
Built to long endure!

Designed by the Master architect,
Who knows me through and through.
He didn’t ask me about this castle,
He knew exactly what to do.

He placed it on a high point,
Like a city on a hill.
It can be seen far away,
Showing His stately skill.

Built to last for eternity,
On streets of gold, to look sublime.
Near gates of pearl and walls of jasper,
With a touch of pure divine!
