After a High Point

After a high point,
There’s no place to go
But back to the usual
Life that you know.

Good feelings may linger,
A satisfied air
Which, if you are lucky,
Will help you prepare

For the letdown to follow
That everyone knows
Happens after the high point –
That’s just how it goes.

This poem offers a grounded and realistic perspective on the aftermath of peak experiences. It captures the inevitable return to normalcy after a high point, highlighting the quiet wisdom of accepting life's natural rhythm.

You expressed very well the contrast between feeling high and then back to same old same old.

Your well-written poem conveys a powerful message about that let-down feeling we experience after a high point-- the way I feel after Christmas! Janice
