Filigree Poems | Examples

Premium MemberThe soul is craftsmanship, a complex filigree

The soul is craftsmanship, a complex filigree,
One moment it dances in laughter, and the next, no reaction spree.
It's the secretive goldsmith of emotions we weave day by day,
With wings of thoughts, while the tiniest feelings can make the balance sway.
Upon us, the eave of the sky sometimes heavily lies,
And yet, we resist, with a shield of will, under the stars and fogs that rise.
I fear, I do not possess this strength, I’m framed elsewhere,
My fluctuations are an ocean, with extreme waves, harsh and without spare.
My temperament battles with sensitivity in a vast sea,
A fight not at all easy, for the soul, it's nearly a calamity.
It's deeply etched in my essence, as fate has inscribed,
And perhaps it empowers me, to shape into words all that I've imbibed.
Protect me, humor, from too much honesty,
You are my shield daily, my safety strategy.
But empty would my universe be, if poetry had none to hear,
Without friends to share verse, life would be just a silent theater, drear.

Filigree
Celtic Filigree

Graceful filigree unbroken
Weaves a tracery
With strands entwined
Like a whisper from the misty isles
Woven into whorls of melodic unity,
Indivisible spirals of the eternal three,
Thin harp strings of crisscrossed swirls
Weaving lyric filigree
Delicate fine threads elaborate
Earth, water, fire in legends
Of scholar saints and mystics –
Erin’s braided shield
Two hearts intertwined into infinity
As a king’s wisdom brings a benediction
Of enduring life
That reaches back into the dusty kells
Of rosettes in oak roots interlinked
Plaited knotwork - no beginning and no end -
Echoes eons of captured grace
In continuous mystical contours

There are several well-known Celtic knots including Knotwork, The Trinity Knot, the Dara Knot, Solomon’s Knot and the Love Knot.

One of the meanings of “kells” is cocoon or chrysalis

Nature and Creation Envy

I saw a dragonfly today

Skimming over the surface of a still pond

It’s beauty reflecting the light

Colours of blue, green opalescent delight

It’s wings fluttering as it flew effortlessly

It’s a sample of nature in full silent flight

It dances weaves, glides and hovers with ease

I wish this dragonfly was me flying freely

On a filigree wing so peacefully

I have a case of nature and creation envy

Yet can you blame me.

Premium MemberFiligree Snowflakes Fall

I walk lonely in the garden of my dead mother,
down paths frozen with song birds in trees;
my coat is of mourning black,
my heart is shattered-
Filigree snowflakes,
fall . . .

Jack
Frost
arrives
Feather like
patterns have appeared
all over my bedroom windows
My frozen fingers trace the swirling fern like patterns
as I gaze intensely at the sparkling crystalline formation on the window panes

Warm
breath
melts a
small section
of filigree ice
Rivulets of icy water
trickle down the glass. I wipe away condensation
and peer out onto my lawn, which is scintillating with delicate crystals of ice

I
step
onto
frosted grass
and can hear it crunch
with each stride I make on the lawn
Low winter sun is shining and I am enchanted
by a delicate gossamer spider’s web glistening with beads of ice white diamonds

Each stanza 54 syllables checked with how many syllables

Premium MemberA Gold Filigree Chest

A walled in pond with trees draped with moss
brighten by a warm predawn glow

Two sisters sit on a small stone clearing
keeping secrets of their own
that can never be lost

A gleam of awe on their lovely faces
an open gold filigree chest they hold
Lustrous pearls once worn by their grandmother
they hold dear ,treasured and old they’ve been told

Believing in dreams
their destiny might bring forth
and the magic of
the bond between sisters love
that can by no means be lost

Premium MemberSwirls of Gold Filigree

A pale, ghostly moon rises
at night when the day is done.
And orange and tangerine
get bled from a crimson sun.

Space is draped in black velvet,
pinned with galaxies of light.
And swirls of gold filigree
confetti the dark of night.

Twirling pulsars and quasars
provide rhythm, spinning in place.
And in this cosmic ballet,
gravity maintains the pace.

Mars ascends in shades of red;
evoking passion and praise.
Securing Her rightful place;
Venus appears through the haze.

And shooting stars fizzle out
within the blink of an eye.
For the kingdom of magic
is as near as the night sky.

Premium MemberAutumn Filigree

The gray haze of autumnal fog drenches the leave-strewn grass.
Trance-like, lain within the wet air, like babies breath, the leaves fall.
A soft, damp, blanket of gold, filigree,
edges the green cloak of the Mother,
Her garb lays adorned with a pointed patterns of earthly stars.
Warmed so, by the abundance of her children;
caressed by the love of the Father, beloved, the Mother yawns....
stirring the leaves, yet again, the leaves arise.
