A Triad of Tanka VI: Autumn Failing

A cracked, lone brown leaf

Spiralling quickly downwards

Knows only the ground;

But in that motion exalts 

As if a plunging falcon.

Fallen, wind-blown leaves

Huddling against grey kerbstones

In abject neglect.

Already parks quieter...

Their iron railings more stark.

The thick sap retreats

When gnarled bark tightens its grip

On inner heartwood;

Summer faded into nights...

Autumn, failing, covered all.

Failing justice 101

You claim that we live in a just society
One where law comforts the innocent 
And justice punishes the victim 
But that's not true is it? 
When in reality it's the opposite of that 
Especially when you are black
For us We live in an alternate reality 
Where this doesn't happen
Where we the innocent are falsely imprisoned

3 WORDS, 1 SWORD

Just thought of the B-word,
Perhaps it’s tied to the F-word.
Now I feel like the S-word—
They all strike sharp, like a sword.

Cutting both edges, cold and fierce,
Though I remain just a piece.
But my mind pleads for peace,
To understand and release.

B for bad, of what just came,
I hoped for more, maybe fame.
Yet the result spelled more shame,

God forgives my failing.

Failing Forward

Thoughts in turmoil 
Make the mind meek
Drought in rainfall 
Flooding the night

The scent of success
Slays in solitude 
Let sentient stand
To see beyond sentiment 

The brain you water grows greener
Like a toddler toddling
No deadline to making headlines

Failing

Let me spin a yarn, reality,
Failing the weight loss industry
No binge eating any more,
Comfort food had left the store,
NO COOKIES!, so hard,
Lettuce leaves by the yard,
Must stop pretending, I say,
Hobbit's second breakfasts, okay.
Time to accept, destress, funny,
Now home for raisin toast and tea,
Hot and sweet, fat like me,
Yes, failed weight loss totally!

Failing The Muse

Have I let
her down again
Have I failed
once more
Have I jumbled
up the words
Have I graded 
poor
Have I taken her
for granted
Have I missed
the mark
Have I disappointed
one

Failing Visions

The hole in his retina was getting larger.
He once saw the elephants
heading for the hills
long before the news broke on that far shore.

Even today
when his magnifying glass is cloudy
with questions
he still sees the asteroids.
breaking away from their trajectories
and falling upon the earth
like a pack of wolves.

He told the ophthalmologist
about this vision
she just smiled,

Passion

Passion fades from failing fingertips.
Cold calmly captures crimson lips.
Emerald eyes emanate enduring love,
Desiring destiny’s descending Dove.

A Fool

Verbs and nouns now bleached and blown,
no longer speak to eye nor ear
except to say ‘time goes on
and all is gone but I am here.’
The meadow is the valley’s crown,
the valley is the mountain’s queen,
the mountain is a minor king
among the appellation rows.

At center of this sylvan scene
stands a statue firm and new
of a woman

Failing To Praise the Lord Ii

When those abominable moments in our lives come, my beloved brothers,
 
And with indignation our voice to heaven, in protest, we feel to raise
 
We have to remember the instances of happiness our companions were
 
That we did fail, miserably, skywards our eyes to turn to, our Lord to praise!

Drowning in self degradation
Deliberate affliction is exacerbating 
Crystalline facade dulling senses 
Normalcy, forgetting our consensus

point, swirling under skin
Finality, deaths creeping in

Failing Upwards

Back in the day
he used to do any job for good pay.
That was before the abortion clinic.
Then he knew
there was some s..t he would not do.
He got picky,
though getting himself fired was his 
most masterly skill.
Occasionally 
he would make a little shady money,
however any work was cleaner
then bundling up dead baby parts.
