Failing In Love

Tell me a sad, sad story about a man Who sought love more than anything, Though he dreamed of a perfect plan It failed from the very beginning. Who sought love more than anything Which is an extremely sad, sad thing, It failed from the very beginning Not the slightest happiness did it bring. Which is an extremely sad, sad thing For how does one learn what love is? Not the slightest happiness did it bring He found no true love he could call his. For how does one learn what love is? In his early years he knew infatuation He found no true love he could call his, Though he sought it in every situation. In his early years he knew infatuation True love seemed to be quite preclusive, Though he sought it in every situation In its several ways he found it elusive. True love seemed to be quite preclusive Though he dreamed of a perfect plan In its several ways he found it elusive, Tell me a sad, sad story about a man.

I know women who have spent their entire life trying to find "the perfect love" so this resonated "In his early years he knew infatuation True love seemed to be quite preclusive, Though he sought it in every situation In its several ways he found it elusive." Sad isn't it?

It is sad. You know, I wonder if they love themselves, because, to me, that is a prerequisite for finding love with someone else.

In our minds we try to find that true love. It is a difficult Journey. It seems like the harder we try the more elusive it is fot find. Then when we least expect it we realize we have it and know what it is when we feel it. Your words have much truth and meaning Milton. I thought some of us have not experienced that love and do not know how to love because of the lack of. The good news is when by chance you fall in love or feel love it changes you and transforms your heart to love. Well written.

This seems to be your default form of poetry, Milt. I always enjoy your Pantoums. A tough subject to deal with. With so much written on love and what it is, and so many different types of love expressed; it is hard to find true love or Love. Then we have conditioning and the approval of others to consider. I don't think Love is a think at all. I think it is a state of mind. When in Love, one thinks, feels and experiences a presence that is undescribable. IMHO I liked your poem. Bill

Oh, I do love the more complicated forms. My favorites are the villanelle, the terzanelle, and the pantoum. If my subject matter permits, I try to use them. Of course, I also like triolets. I'm a big fan of word puzzles and word play, so that probably explains my love of these forms.

Enjoyed reading. Love is like a drug that leads the heart to jump hoops for the one you are in love with..

Not many things are sadder than a lost love or one that is unrequited. I've discovered love is not perfect, sometimes an illusion... I sound glum. Sorry, but your pantoum form IS perfect.

Thanks, Jenna. I have no idea where this whole idea came from. I just started writing and it developed into this pantoum. I don't think it is one of my better ones, but it seemed to work on some level.
