In a round-about, indirect
Not to dissect but inspect
Alternative means to deflect
From some singular aspect,
Of getting to a point or effect…
I need to be more direct.

black diamonds did not form on our planet
They are from outer space
Reputed to deflect negativity from the wearer
diamonds have a shine that rivals the stars
they look fantastic in jewelry – rings and necklaces
I remember receiving my first one in nineteen sixty-four
I have lost them, found them, and revitalized them
They always delight me
each with her own personality
as diverse as a snowflake
no two alike

l came from a desert you've never heard of
l am the source of the potters clay
in the storm of the desert l wander
in a desert that has no home
then l rest upon the surface of the water
and the sounds that leaks through your windows
l can deflect back into space
and then she calls your name across the desert
and across a sea of sand dunes
khol eyes of darkest nights, veils and wails
she burns the reddest sunset
l am the storm you've never heard of
my mist of thirst is like a poison
it's death stroke is the wind
l'll circle back round from where l came from
in the desert dust
and fill your eyes till suffocate
l am the storm
........................l am Simoom

Forget riffs of regrets
But
To the hilt
We tilt to
Inbuilt lilt
A guilt quilt
Can jilt & wilt
But
No tiffs with what ifs
Won’t let you fret
Circumspect.. I find
Older you get
Bet..more honest…more kind
Care more..know more
Late bloomer rumour
Embraces candour...humour
Respect velvety vagaries
Traces of reflect
Suspect future’s the tutor
Detect serendipity the suitor
Evolution..glints of revolution
Pip that convoluted New Year’s tip
Genuinely don’t genuflect
No sorrow...deflect hints
Of mooted rebooted resolution
Suspect Tomorrow might
Be your best day yet!

The little beads rise to the surface of her skin.
The skin that seems to have
'gotten scratched by the cat'
One too many times.
But as she goes to erase all evidence of her deflect
She feels it sting.
A sting she knows all too well.
Her blood feeling the tension of the gleaming blade against her skin
The sting comes and goes,
But here comes the hell hot waters,
The little voices in her head screaming for her to yell in pain, in anger,
something to tell people she's hurt
But she just sighs as the
demons come from the shower and cause havoc on her skin
Her fingers graze against her
scars as she is reminded of the the pain, the agony.
But she will sigh, as she know the hell hot water demons,
will soon meet her skin again

In school when I was being raised
the role models who then were praised
were the American icons—
George Washington, “I cannot tell a lie”
Honest Abe, a straight-shooting kind of guy
Later we heard Jimmy Carter testify
“I’ll never tell a lie …”
For my generation and prior
they raised the bar higher
Honesty was the best policy
That was then
This is now …
When caught in a lie
deny
When accusations resound
double down
When proof’s presented
get inventive
When they continue to confront
cry witch-hunt
When they accuse you of a crime
deflect each time
When they bring more claims
call them demeaning names
over and over
and over and
over and over
and over again
Nothing to lose
You may even win …
But lying is still a sin
Best to extol the role model
who always gets it right
(then and now)

It comes whisking in when least expected,
Its steps silent, its grip too cold.
It slips through cracks, unseen and unchecked,
No whistle blown, no stories told.
Whether the doors are opened or locked,
It doesn't knock to take its due.
Whether the windows are open or closed,
It cares not for the clear sky or view.
It will one day meet us all, face to face,
Perhaps today, perhaps tomorrow.
It visits only at its chosen time, regardless of place,
Carrying both peace and sorrow.
May the heavens be pleased when the last breath is drawn,
For it is a phantom force we can never deflect.

They didn't have an upbringing
it was more of a downbringing instead.
It can happen when a parent
acts more like a friend.
Stuffed animals are commissioned
to cloak, deflect and defend
milk cartons are replaced by
a fifth of mayhem,
fear becomes a dependable friend.
They survivors of a downbringing
often suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome
with subsequent trust and commitment issues.
Have patience with these scarred angels
balm their many wounds with understanding
or at least pretend you give a damn.
Repair and buttress their fractured foundation
offer a safe place for them to land.
At times you may have to be the parent that
they never were destined to have.

Rage
My rage, it expires
down deep to desires
but I must keep the fight
to turn on the light.
But the light is the sun
and surely everyone
must feel its effect.
Well, except if you're a defect like me.
Except if you deflect like me.
Except if you conflict like me.
Does anyone live like me?
Does anyone *perfect* like me?
Is anyone poetic like me?
Is anyone in pain like me?
Is anyone in disdain like me?
Light hurts my eyes
light hurts my brain
and I wonder if I can still tame
the beast inside me as it starts to roar,
and all the while the light shines more.
When *will* this hell end for me?
But peace has prices to pay
as I go to live with the fae
and fight on to see another day.

There are words that I’m slow to say,
Bound inside and kept away, so
My tempered tongue I won’t betray.
Without much thought an ass will bray;
Many with their jawbone slay, so
There are words that I’m slow to say.
Fire forged barbs will make you pay;
Injured mettle I must weigh, so
My tempered tongue I won’t betray.
Unbridled thoughts expressed all day;
Biting cuts will spark a fray, so
There are words that I’m slow to say.
Floods of emotion rush my way;
Damming walls deflect the spray, so
My tempered tongue I won’t betray.
Feelings expressed in shades of gray
Shield and keep this heart of clay, so
There are words that I’m slow to say;
My tempered tongue I won’t betray.

#2: A Day Ends
Amidst the noisy sand castles crumble,
afeared shook ceases, a slamming silence,
tis a rippling pond cross o'er to humble,
tranquility transfers, hours for nonsense,
these shooting stars like asteroids deflect
your day lived is nevermore, stay awhile,
happiness claims a heart's duty ... connect,
righteousness pause, funny things cause a smile,
snags voided, problems solved, caveat crossed,
in the least misfortune, up in the air,
if there is no closure, there'll be a cost,
to exhaust all that is human ... prayer.
Period of cleansing and making whole,
goal hour is here ... the spirit joins the soul.

They did not form inside the earth
They arrived here on asteroids
They are from outer space
register ten on the Mohs hardness scale
and deflect negativity from the wearer

("Untitled - The Eye of Jihad", 2019, original encaustic)
Love is Love - and other absurd truisms
“Love is love” is like “Follow your bliss”
a way to deflect the moral agency
and subsequent consequence of our desires
with vague equivalency.
It’s like all love and bliss is somehow equal,
which is absurd.
What if my bliss comes from destroying yours?
Or I love abducting, raping, slicing and dicing
then barbecuing
the infant you love…?
Where is the moral equivalence?
This is why the Golden Rule sounds great
up until you are up against a masochist.
And the world today is apparently filled with masochists.
But it’s all good…
At least it feels good,
to think we are all the same, all equal
in what we love and cherish.
The truth is we aren’t.
We may all be made of the same dust,
but that doesn’t make us equal.
Meanwhile the world turns,
a hit soap-opera
in its nth season
spinning relentlessly
a veritable Wall of Death
which in its shocking extreme
delivers some kind of perverse pleasure.
It may not be bliss,
or even what we love,
but it’s certainly captivating.

You confused the situation
by alarming the guests
saying close
but no cigar
You always gave quaint encouragement
by virtue of your factuals
We sweetly sang out of tune
to deflect the despondency
On the chimes befalling
you set the table for many guests
but could ill afford the meal provided
