That part

I’ve a mind full of thoughts
              plus stuff I try forget
          those things I won’t recall
              are hard to recollect
           it’s not I can’t remember
              but prefer to deflect
that part of what I am
           feels wrong in retrospect

             “Oh just say it already”
              No! I’m here to reflect
“Say it! go on admit it
              this is plain old regret”
           But I’m the damage done
               that I cannot correct
            And you, this other voice
are that part I can’t accept

Woah, I must say this is quite intense, dear David! Sometimes, those introspective thoughts can lead to an overwhelming vulnerability.. especially for us poets.. as we feel and think everything jus too deeply. I really love those quoted lines that reflects the thoughts so brilliantly! And also "But I’m the damage done that I cannot correct And you, this other voice are that part I can’t accept " Ahh, absolutely resonating to the core.. I am taken to a different dimension whenever these sentiments shake my heart.. that inner contradiction and the costant contrasting urge to deny the reality.. sigh. Absolutely a pleasure reading your words always! Sending you stars and sunshine! 💛 🌙 ⭐ 💎 ⭐ 💫

Thank you Hiya, your comment fully encapsulates the message I was trying to get across, us poets really are deep thinkers and argue constantly with ourselves or (our muses) as to what direction we should take, if any; I find everyday reality is constantly changing from my own perspective, but that deeper reality is possibly immutable, but I’ll keep probing away; Ooh I’ll grab all those lovely emojis, and save them for a rainy day🪎🪎🪎cheers David

This is quite a reflective conversation you’re having with yourself. David. Some would call it a reality check but when I have them it’s more like a sibling argument in which no one wins. I can be too detailed oriented, so it’s often I ask myself ‘what ifs’ and after the debate I still have no right or wrong that I can call factual. 🦋

Heya Lin! I agree Internal conversation is quite difficult to resolve in right or wrong terms, I suppose the only factual part is that we do have these arguments with ourselves, and for some they can be quite troubling, especially if constantly trying to bring up things we’d rather forget, so I decided to make a poem out of the thought process involved, no winner as of yet 😀, cheers from both of us, lol!

“And you, this other voice are that part I can’t accept “ what an exquisite ending that is dear David! I know this feeling so well. I think many can resonate with this. Those thoughts we need to sometimes reflect, and think about, for self awareness to a journey of healing… I like the way youv quoted thoughts, it gives a very real raw vibe to your poem! Sometimes I would say, what works best is to sit with those thoughts, let them ebb and flow~ Pleasure reading you today Sending you light always 💫

Let them ebb and flow sounds about right Ink, I mean how on earth do we silence that inner voice, we can’t ignore it, but still doesn’t mean we have to accept it, especially when it’s logic can be quite illogical and self defeating, I think after a couple of reads the picture starts to emerge, it’s not pretty, just laid bare! I’m so glad my ending resolved the paradox going on! Thanks so much Ink for stopping by and tackling this somewhat arcane introspective piece, cheers David

Hello David, a deeply raw, psychologically sharp piece of work. It’s so easy for reflection to slide into self-protection, and that tension between wanting to deflect and being forced to confront "that part" gives the poem its powerful, restless pulse. Acknowledging the voice of regret not as an outside force, but as an inescapable part of oneself that remains hard to embrace, takes immense courage on the page. David, what a hauntingly honest and masterful exploration of memory, guilt, and the inner dialogue we carry. Blessings, Daniel

Thanks Daniel, if anyone could nail the psychology of this one down it was always going to be you, on the face of it it seems contradictory, but with a critically trained eye it unravels and the layers below the surface start to reveal inner hidden truths, we all possess them, I think my final line reveals the difficulty in embracing oneself even if we’re told by ourselves we should, 🙃 I appreciate you stopping by and dissecting this piece and finding some humanity in there, cheers David

I think sometimes the worst thing to do is to try not to think a thought through (I'd love to hear you say that 😅) what's to say any one of us wouldn't be just a shadow of our current selves if not for what came before? Should I be thinking that I might lend the view of a close friend rather than my own to qualify it sufficiently. Perspective is hard to get when inside your head. Great monorhyme occuring here David, as always I love the cadence - bouncy to fit a thought bouncing around 😊

You are right of course Laurentine, we would not be who we are now without what came before, that’s not to say it was all absolutely necessary, ok I could put my morpheus head on and say, (What happened, happened, and couldn't have happened any other way) but there’s always that poetic doubt and inner voice that challenges the narrative, my individual perspective comes from life experience and is perhaps immutable, but I’m always open to reason except with myself 🙃 , glad you enjoyed and found that little bouncy cadence, cheers David
